It is a nice introduction to the Swissy with beautiful photos. The book, however, reads like a brochure. It is inappropriately priced in the textbook range, which it is not (not worth more than $30). The book is superficial and could greatly benefit from some more detailed information. That being said, it does cover some general topics nicely.

Great book with lots of personal input by Mr. Barton. I was not sure what to expect when I got my pup other than what I saw on the internet and what the breeder told me. It was all pretty on target, but in this book, Mr. Barton introduces more subtle and intersting accounts of the characteristics of the breed and now I can see all this dveloping in my own Swissy. ...

I just purchased my third copy of this book. Once I loan my copy out to friends or family, it disappears! I'm not telling anyone else I have a new copy! So obviously it is a VERY interesting and informative book. I agree with one of the previous reviewers however. When will you be writing another book?!? Thanks for the information you provide without boring us with unnecessary details.

This is a very informative book. From the history, selecting a breeder, feeding and training. It's a must have for any "swissy" owner. The photos are terrific and I can't think of a thing that Mr. Barton has left out!

A great resource for North American coins.......2004-03-19
This guide seems to be geared to the beginning to intermediate collector who is primarily interested in US coins, but who might also be interested in branching out and collecting Mexican and Canadian coins as well. If that's the intent, it succeeds brilliantly. I'm just such a collector -- and I'm a repeat customer -- I bought the 2003 edition before getting the 2004. Most likely, I will be buying the 2005 edition as well. This book is priced economically enough that one can buy a new edition each year. After all, one can easily blow far more than the book's purchase price on an uninformed coin purchase.
The 2004 edition begins with a series of 13 chapters which will be primarily of interest to the collector who is just getting started or someone who is returning to the coin hobby after some time away. It then gives a very well-presented price guide to US, Canadian and Mexican coins. Virtually every coin listed has a black-and-white photograph showing the coin in actual size. The US and Canadian coin photos are quite good, while the Mexican coin photos, except for the most recent ones, leave something to be desired. While no annual book can keep up with volatility of today's coin market, I've found the prices to be a good rough guide from which to start. It also serves as a great "idea" book for those looking to see what is available in their interest and price-range.
The only thing that stops me from giving this a five-star rating is that it is a little too US-coin-centric. For example, Chapter 12 offers a chapter on "Hot Buys for 2004" but not one Canadian or Mexican coin is listed! Don't get me wrong -- there is some very valuable information here on Canadian and Mexican coin collecting -- I'd just like more of it.
The book's back cover claims that it "Provides all the info you need in one handy reference," and most collectors will probably agree. Highly recommended.

Must-read for every dancer and parent of a dancer.......1998-01-22
This book is the most comprehensive guide to the physiology of dancing. It answers important questions about what is normal and what can cause problems. It also deals with correcting technique problems and preventing injuries by proper strengthening exercises. It covers the entire body from head to toe. In my opinion every dance teacher should read this book so they can responsibly develop young dancers. This book should be reprinted --- anyone who dances should read it and keep it handy as a valuable resource.

of all the bones and muscles in the body and how they

lengthening each muscle set.
You don't have devote a fortune in expensive equipment
or a large amount of time doing repetive, boring movement.
Suggestions in
the Question and Answer sections help you define your
structural weaknesses and suggest exercises within the
program for overcoming them. Plus you never have to count
past 8! Each exercise is done to one of four 8 count rhythms with most exercises being either

This book is great. There are chapters on dance fitness that I haven't seen anywhere else. And it's easy to read, for a technical manual. A wonderful source of facts for the dancer who wants to stay healthy.

I have danced my entire life and often I would get an injury and simply ignore it or treat it how I would a simple sore muscle or cramp. This book gives a complete encyclapedic dictionary of common "dancer" injuries and how to remedy them. It has proved to be a very helpful reference book for me on a daily basis. This book is easy to understand and even easier to use, this book will help anyone with basic foot problems, it isn't just for dancers.

With this appreciation of three very different black writers, novelist Darryl Pinckney reminds us that marginal or neglected literary figures have a lot to tell us about the history of a people who are always "outsiders." Born in Jamaica in 1883, J. A. Rogers was an early member of the Harlem Renaissance--a newspaper columnist, historian of Negro achievement, polemicist against white supremacy, and amateur sociologist of interracial sex as evidenced in his massive three-volume work Sex and Race. Vincent O. Carter, who came of age in 1920's Kansas City, wrote The Bern Book, an exploration of being black in a Swiss rather than an American setting. Caryl Phillips, a son of the generation of black Caribbeans who returned to Great Britain after the Second World War, has explored the psychology of migration in fiction and nonfiction that include The Final Passage, Higher Ground, and The Nature of Blood. Pinckney's essays on these writers, drawn from his Alain Locke Lectures at Harvard University, give us a rich understanding of what it has meant to be "children of the diaspora" over the past century.
