On a tour of Rome with a group (church choir) I found this book to be useless. Unlike my other two Rome guides (eyewitness travel--nice pictures but heavy to carry, and rick steve's-- the one I used most), it did not do a good job of describing places, in my opinion. If it had not been so small I would have left it in rome, but brought it back and gave it to the local library where they sell used books and magazines as a fund-raiser. Perhaps if I had been on my own the suggested walks, etc would have been useful.

Had I only had this guide for my last trip to Rome. Instead of lugging around bulky Frommers or Fodors, I would have loved Rome Made Easy, a distillation of the city into a compact, highly portable guide. Morris, a veteran guidebook writer, gets to the heart of the city, hitting the essentials without skimping on details. This is the book you'll carry (inconspicuously in a pocket or purse) on your next trip to the wonderful city of Rome.

A rich book to mimic a rich state.......2006-08-05
O is for Old Dominion is the Virginia edition of the Discover America State By State series. As in all other books I've read in this series (Ohio, Hawaii, Utah), the editing, illustrations, and writing are consistently well done.
I was wondering how author Edwards would handle the slavery/Confederacy issue. I think it was handled with a sensitivity appropriate for a "children's book."
It must be easier to write a book in this series when your state has such a rich history and geography! With only 26 "letters" to use to feature key points, it is a wonder Pamela Edwards could even narrow it down to 26 featured subjects!

Laura and her husband live in Mathias, West Virginia.

I purchased this book for my grandsons. We are from and proud of the mountain state and this book showcases West Virginia. The illustrations are beautiful too!

The type (copy) and the book itself are really small and hard to read. It's more like a pocket size handbook. I should have done more research before I purchased; I made the inaccurate assumption that art/design books are usually larger in scale. I can't comment on the content of the book because the size of it was such an impediment I stopped reading after a few chapters.

insightful, full of samples (about 800 though largely black & white) a great guide to graphic styles, and the key movers & shakers in the history of graphic design right through from the 1890s to the 1990s.
a huge resource for such a little book, definately worth reading if not just to look at the pictures...
Great reference for Graphic Design history........1998-03-26
This is an excellent guide to the history of graphic design. I really enjoyed reading
this insightful view of graphic design. It has lots of useful information on the history
of graphic design from early posters to the electronic age. I have found this as a good
book for my study as an art student. I would recomend this to anyone interested in
graphic design history or if you are thinking of the graphic arts industry.

Informative Book.......2003-01-10
This book is informative and well set out. Looking up a paticular part is easy. It has good pictures and is easy to read. It needs to expand a little more in the illness section as when my bird was ill, the symptons did not match any in the book. It is a good book for kids to start with as it goes through care of a cockatiel, diet and general day to day concerns. If you have a sick bird, another book on the shelf is recommended.
If you're a new owner, get this book........1998-09-14
This book is not just for owners of cockatiels.
When I first bought my pet tiel, this book was very helpful in discussing all the elements of owning a new cockatiel.
Ms. Rach does a very nice job of outlining all the necessary steps in making sure your tile is healthy and happy.
Various chapters in the book include nutrition, training, taming, purchasing, health, diagnosing sickness, cockatiel behavior and other helpful chapters.
The book is enjoyable to read as Ms.Rach draws from her love and experience in raising these wonderful birds.
What is distinguishing about her book and other books is her style of writing. You can really tell that she really loves these particular birds.
The book does not delve into the subjects of breeding or other heavy duty bird type topics such as formulating your own bird seed diet, etc. But if you are a new cockatiel owner who needs a good basic book about how to take care of your bird, I would recommend this book to you.

This book is good, It dosen't talk to much on one topic, however it does talk about almost everything such as feeding, behaviour, history, taming (training) and more. However if you want a more usefull book that tells you what to do and how this isn't the book for you.

I love this book. I have been able to identify many, many pieces of ruby glass that I have been interested in collecting. Finding it in the book has validated the age of the pieces and what original pieces go together (such as a stopper for an old cruet). There are several pages of beautiful color pictures and many black and white photos as well. It is enjoyable to just browse thru again and again. The investment for this book is worth the money spent.
