Catholic Shrines of Western Europe.......2007-01-04

A very good book full of information. The only thing i didnt like is that they talk about certain images of The Blessed Virgin , but dont show her. Only the builing... I think more pictures of the statues at the shrine and less of the outside of them would be better. But i gave it five stars for the information. It great for that reason only.

Excellent Book for a Semester in Europe.......2004-11-19

I spent two semesters in Europe and this book was immensely helpful in deciding which pilgrimage sights to go to and then finding them! I love the little maps that are shown for the various shrines. At Franciscan University's campus in Austria, this book in particular is very popular, because it tells about the history of the place and how to find it. If you know a Catholic who is going to Europe and wants to visit shrines, then I highly recommend this book.

Easy to Use; Full of good info........2003-07-09

My brother and I both lived in Europe (in different places) and we both used this book extensively. The book unabled us to visit shrines that otherwise we would not have known existed. The book was easy to use and included the history of each shrine, directions on how to get there, where to stay and how to contact the shrine. There is also a picture of each shrine, with made it easy to choose which shrines we wanted to see. Our stay in Europe was greatly enriched by the use of this book.

What an awesome book! It's a great book to have on hand, whether you will be visiting Europe, or would just like to learn more about all the great shrines of Europe (i.e. Lourdes, Fatima, etc.). The book is exhaustive in its coverage, and very enjoyable to read. The contact information for each shrine is extremely helpful and useful. I highly recommend this book, and it makes for a great gift too.

Two ways to see this book..........2001-08-10

Either you see it from a dry-to-the-bone practical angle, and the book comes up short. If you use it to get more insight in standard user interface and navigation structures, you will not find it. This book is not about defining the 'ideal' navigation or garanteed successful interface. Quite the opposite.

See, here is another approach to this thing called the web: what if you do not assume your user/visitor to be an idiot? What if the actual concept of using a website is part of the content and experience the designer wants you to have? It will result in some of the work shown in this publication. Where the user is not taken by the hand and force-fed how to use an interface.

You can argue if this is needed, or if this approach even has a contribution to the world of internet. I for one think it has. The web is a means to exchange ideas and thoughts, just as it is a communication tool for business and information. There is simply not one truth or one rule to be followed. And if you do not see the relevance of experiment in how to communicate, use the book to see just where the usability goes overboard, and learn from that :-) But it never hurts to open your mind/eyes to the new and unexpected, even if it does not make immediate sense or logic. This book serves to do just that.

This book is horrible.......2001-05-21

I can find only one use for this book. It is an excellent example of what NOT to do when designing user interfaces. These are some of the most unusable interfaces I have seen to date.

Also, the only skill of the designers display is their ability to over use popular, gimmicky, current design trends. There is no originality displayed in the designs and there is no forethought in UI design and layout.

The best survey of "interesting and inspiring" websites period. I'm going to be giving it to friends who are desigers for their birthdays this year. It shows sites which are pushing technology, not being pushed by it. However, this book may make working at a large .com more difficult for a designer.

This book gives your detialed information on every aspect of riding dressage. It shows clearly how your seat and hands influence the horse and how you can use all your aids in a clear way to guide your horse through the various training stages. If you are unsure how to coordinate your leg hand and seat to ask for a lateral bend this book will show you exactly how to ask for it and suggest ways to use your aids to get the desired result. If you are having a problem of any kind, Driving western or english this book will give you the tools to trace the source of the problem and then retrain to overcome it. It takes a bit of consintration to read as it is very step by step and packs a lot of info into a pharagraph. I think every serious rider should have a copy of this book It teaches classic time honored methods that are easy on the horse.

Overload!!! Where to start? There are so many!.......2004-11-17

Wow, they all look good. Wow, I see problems in each. Wow, I don't know what I am doing here, I am a fish out of water in the franchising world. I found this book to be a good tool to have once you have found the businesses you want to investigate. The challenge is narrowing the list.

I didn't want to stand behind a counter making sandwiches(spent too long in corporate America for that), but beyond that I didn't know what else to narrow the list on. I found some help and between this book, others books and the advisor I found I was able to evalaute the market. Some investigation, and Google, led me to George Knauf and together we talked about companies, my goals and what is in the book.

Use all the tools available to you. I found the book to be a somewhat worthwhile investment and the advice to be worth a great deal, though somehow it din't cost me anything.

We are getting ready to buy a horse, so I initially checked this book out from our library. It was full of such good info that I decided to buy it. The price on amazon was GREAT and the book came in perfect condition. Now we will have it on hand when we are ready to buy/own a horse.

Maud Gonne and William Butler Yeats met in early 1889, and he first proposed to her--unsuccessfully--two years later. Some of Yeats's greatest poems chronicle his long obsession with her, among them "A Woman Homer Sang," "Reconciliation," and "No Second Troy":

What could have made her peaceful with a mind
That nobleness made simple as a fire,
With beauty like a tightened bow, a kind
That is not natural in an age like this,
Being high and solitary and most stern?
Why, what could she have done, being what she is?
Was there another Troy for her to burn?

We tend to see Maud Gonne through his prism--a firebrand, a great beauty, above all a political fanatic who made him suffer like mad. These letters tell a more complex tale, since the majority are hers, most of Yeats's having been destroyed. What he portrayed as extremism instead becomes deep political involvement: her letters record an endless round of meetings, protests, and good works. In addition, the concern she again and again manifests for Yeats mitigates his cries of indifference; rather, Maud Gonne emerges as steady and heroic. Even as she was preparing to marry John MacBride, she took time out to console her longtime suitor in a characteristic run-on: "Friend of mine au revoir. I shall go over to Ireland in a couple of months, if you care to see me I shall be so glad & you will find I think that I am just the same woman you have always known, marriage won't change me I think at all...." The editors declare the original letter "very crumpled and creased as if carried in Yeats's pocket and taken out and read many times."

A feminist and a poet.......2002-09-25

First off, let me tell you I love reading letters so this book has definite appeal to me. And of course, Yeats was Yeats and Gonne, as you may or may not know, was a famous feminist in Ireland. That the relationship continued for so many years despite her contunual refusals to marry him says olumes about the personalities of these two people.
If you're interested in what made Yeats tick or how a feminist conducted herself without major media support, read this book.

Letters of love, passion and politics.......2001-10-18

This is a wonderful volume. The love of Yeats for Maud Gonne is one of the defining characteristics of his life and the passion he felt for her powered some of his strongest poems. Reading these letters you get a marvellous feel for the strength of the woman and her respect and love for the poet, despite turning down many marriage proposals.

Maud Gonne was much more than the woman beloved of Yeats, she was also a political activist, a woman convinced of the need for Irish nationalism and prepared to work for the benefit of the Irish people. This comes through in her letters to Yeats through her mention of meetings and rallies.

I can almost forgive her destruction of almost all the letters she received from Yeats, which explains the one sided nature of this volume, almost all the letters are from Gonne to Yeats with only a few from him to her.
