Customer Reviews:
The worst book ever.......2004-05-16
First of all im sorry that i paid the money that i did,im not quite sure if this book was supposed to be fact or fiction. The photos in the book were of very poor quality, and also very hard to follow this alice in wornderland story for it had no direction what so ever. I would not advise anyone to buy this book unless you are an "yooper"(and everyone knows there a breed of there own)
A cheery, warmhearted read!.......2003-11-08
Enchanting tales of man v. beast, ok man v. a cute, fat squirrel, will keep you wishing for the simple days and make your attention turn towards the wonder of the outdoors. All the pranks and inventions will keep you happily confused on who to root for. Wonderful to share with the family on a cold winter night by the fire!
Did you have squirrels in your backyard?.......2003-10-13
I remember the squirrels in my backyard when I was growing up . . how great to have this story to share with my children. A great invitation to turn off the T.V. and look out the window . . nature is so much more entertaining, especially when you give it a helping hand.
Well-written, fun!.......2003-10-01
When I read this book, it took me back to a charming mid-20th century, mid-America. The author has an engaging way of telling tales of big family life, untamed nature, and the perennial battle of man-versus-squirrel. The family's encounters with neighborhood wildlife are so outrageous, I wouldn't have believed them without the pages of photos! I've read it twice!
I've fought this battle, too!.......2003-09-27
Anyone who has fought this battle must read this book. Entertaining. Learn new ways to fight these little varmints! Have fun!

Las Vegas is a truly original city, where the greatest landmarks are all reproductions, and the name of the game is gambling. This neon jungle is, at turns, classy, tacky, cheesy, and sleazy, but it's always entertaining. If there's one sure bet in this town, it's that you'll never be bored.
Las Vegas For Dummies gives you the lowdown on this city, which is fast challenging Orlando as the number-one tourist destination in the U.S. The city has more hotel rooms (over 120,000) than any other, and for sheer spectacle, it's hard to beat this town. You can watch a volcano explode, see a pirate ship sink, stroll by the Arc de Triumph and cross the Brooklyn Bridge – all on the same street. And then you can gamble. This guide will help you plan the best trip imaginable, whether you are

- An experienced traveler who doesn't have a lot of time to devote to trip planning
- Any traveler who only has a few days to spend in Las Vegas and needs expert advice on maximizing a minimum of time
- A traveler who doesn't like big, thick travel guides that list every single hotel, restaurant, or attraction, but instead looks for a book that focuses on the places that will provide the best or most unique experiences
Las Vegas For Dummies is clearly organized and segmented so you won't have to read what came before or after any chapter. You'll uncover tips for
- Planning your trip by taking a gander at the Las Vegas weather; special events; and tips for families, seniors, travelers with disabilities, and gay and lesbian travelers
- Ironing out the details, by considering the use of a travel agent, buying a package deal, or searching for the best airfares
- Settling into Vegas by exploring some of the neighborhoods and modes of transportation
- Dining in Las Vegas, from buffets to brunches, the city's top restaurants to its cheapest meals
- Exploring the city's attractions, entertainment, shopping, and recreational opportunities

If a city exists that has its heart right on its sleeve, it's Las Vegas. Don't come here looking for culture and self-improvement, but do come here looking for a whale of a good time. You're sure to have it.

Las Vegas for Dummies.......2007-08-12
This book was very informative. It changed my mind about some restaurants that I wanted to go to and helped me plan my trip without a travel agent.
I normally love Dummies books - this one is just not up to par.......2005-09-15
Dummies books in general are nicely laid out, with easy to read text, informative highlights, and simple symbols to keep you in check. That all being said, this just isn't my favorite travel book about Vegas. The Dummies style works great for figuring out how your software works, but it doesn't seem to key in properly to what Las Vegas is all about.
I think the main issue here is that the Dummies book tries to cover a number of different topics in a very shallow manner. Let's start at the beginning. It dedicates the first two chapters on how to get to Vegas. It lists things like "surf the web" to find cheap airline rates. I really didn't need a book to tell me that. It tells you to bring a cell phone. Really, if I get a book on Vegas, I want to know what to do and see in Vegas, and where to stay. The rest of this intro stuff is just fluff.
OK, so we get to the actual "arrival" part of the book. Once again you have a ton of fluff about "look on the web to find hotel prices" and "avoiding hidden costs". They could almost have a cookie cutter travel book at this point, with no actual content about the city you are visiting. When we finally get to the actual hotel descriptions, there is a brief paragraph (or maybe 2) on each one. I would really have liked some sort of easy to use table listing them all and their features, rather than having to scan the paragraphs hoping they mentioned the items I was interested in.
The restaurant area is the same way, a paragraph on each, no real organization to help you out on making your choices. But don't blink - quickly you are into "gambling tips and tricks". Really, if I wanted to learn how to gamble, there are ample books on the topic. I need to know the details in Vegas to choose where to stay and eat, and I still really haven't gotten enough of that information.
You get some information on shows and nightclubs, but then you get lists of top 10 things that aren't in Vegas any more. This might be historically informative, and I might not have minded its inclusion if otherwise the book was chock-full of specific, useful information. But given how much of the rest of the book was already generic, it sort of rubbed that in my face. So now I know even more about things that aren't around any more :)
I do love Dummies books. I own many of them and think they're great. For some reason, the Vegas Dummies book is the worst book in my Vegas collection. I guess it just goes to show that no one system can fit every need.
Easy to read and understand........2004-10-03
The price of this book is very reasonable considering all of the information one can learn about Las Vegas. However, I felt as though it could have included more information such as a list of houses of worship and public transportation for those who don't feel comfortable driving around in strange cities. It really is a book for those who plan on renting a car and seeing the city by car. Nonetheless, I think everyone who plans to visit Las Vegas should read this book as it is well-written and the layout is great. It's a fun book to read and it's well worth the price. If I ever get out to Las Vegas, I will absolutely take this book with me as it has a lot of information about hotels and restaurants. It's definitely not stuffy or boring. Even young people would find it easy reading compared to some of the more lengthy, wordy travel guides.
A good place to start your research.......2003-01-05
This is the second for Dummies book on travel I have purchased. I did not find it as helpful as the first book (on Hawaii), but it has some great basic information to start your research on if this is your first time to Las Vegas. The rest of my research was on the internet- mostly looking at pictures to get a feel of what I would like to see in person. You can narrow down quite a bit of your searching by reading this easy to read first half of this book, which is devoted to accomodations and attractions. It quickly gives you a summary of all you need to know.
The book was particurlarly helpful in summarizing what all the casinos on the strip offer to do besides gamble- shows, museums, etc. and there are a lot to sort through, and several are free! My family accused me of being to Las Vegas before because I had such a clear idea of where to go and what to see attraction-wise in what seems a chaotic city of entertainment, something this book is invaluable for.
Also helpful were tips on which casinos were connected to what if you want to beat the heat or not walk as far. This book needs to get updated though in that respect. The other half of the book gives tips and instructions on gambling for those going to do less looking and more gambling.
Easy to read with a helpful format.......2001-05-09
I've never been to Las Wages, but will be going in July and this book should be very helpful. I cant wait to use the tips in the book. I was very impressed with the wealth of information and the easy and accessable format.

In the winter of 1996, a guard at the temple of Alexander the Great near Bahariya, Egypt, reported an astounding discovery: during a routine patrol, he had been startled when the donkey he had been riding fell into a hole. Helping the donkey out of its predicament, the guard saw that the hole was in fact an opening into a tomb--and one from which a mummy's golden face peered.
Zahi Hawass, the director general of the Giza Pyramid complex and a leading Egyptian archaeologist, hurried to the site, which turned up more and more of those golden-masked corpses--105 in the first year of excavation alone, the largest number of mummies yet discovered at a single Egyptian site. Hawass's book describes the site and its contents, which offer material evidence of daily life at the Bahariya Oasis during the 25th and 26th dynasties, a time about which little is now known. Gaps in the historical record are quickly being filled, however, thanks to Hawass's ongoing findings, only a fraction of which are reported in his book. He guesses that the Valley of the Golden Mummies may eventually yield more than 10,000 perfectly preserved corpses and a wealth of information about their time.
The richly illustrated text also provides a detailed account of the work of modern Egyptologists, who accord their subjects a respect not often shown by earlier generations of field workers; as Hawass remarks, "We always treat a mummy as if it were still a person, just as we would hope to be treated ourselves in similar circumstances." It's an altogether fascinating excursion into long-ago times. --Gregory McNamee
Book Description
"The tombs of ancient Egypt have by no means exhausted their power to astonish. Years may go by without an eye-popping discovery, but then archaeologists stumble on . . . one of the most spectacular Egyptian discoveries in decades."-New York Times
It is being hailed as the most sensational find since King Tut's tomb: hundreds of 2,000-year-old mummies, in near-pristine condition and many with masks of gold, uncovered in the Egyptian desert. Never before have so many mummies been discovered in a single site. Ever since front-page headlines announced the electrifying find, the world has awaited the full story. Now, in the only book on the golden mummies, the director of the excavation, noted Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass, takes readers to the site to see what cannot be seen anywhere else-and shares the wealth of new information the tombs are yielding about Egyptian life during the Roman occupation.
The site will remain closed as the dig goes on, making this book-with more than 250 exceptional full-color photographs-the only place to see what lies inside these mysterious graves.
280 photographs, 260 in full color, 5 line drawings, 93/4 x 113/4"
Customer Reviews:
Yes, you can judge a book by its cover.......2005-10-12
This book, as the exquisite cover suggests, is gorgeous and informative. Very clearly and logically laid out, it covers the amazing archeological discovery in the Bahariya Oasis made in 1995 by the author, Zahi Hawass, an extroadinary and admirable man,of which a short biography is featured. The book explains the developement of the site, the history of the Oasis, Ancient Egyptian art and religion, and Greco-Roman Egyptian History. Wonderful, and a marvelous edition to any library.
Coffee Table Book.......2004-01-28
It is indeed a good coffee table book (as another reviewer said). It's a beautiful & informative piece & often sparks conversation. ....a nice book to add to your collection!!
Experience an Ancient Excavation Thru Breathtaking Photos.......2004-01-07
Zahi Hawass was director general of Giza, Saqqara, Imbaba, and Bahariya Oasis who was concentrating his excavations at the Giza Pyramids, particularly the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders, when the Golden Mummies were discovered in the Bahariya Oasis in 1996. Then on, his efforts shifted to this new discovery. So far, over 100 complete Greco-Roman period mummies have been uncovered at Bahariya ranging in status from wealthy gold-encased merchants to the carelessly prepared poor. Hawass believes up to ten thousand mummies will eventually be discovered in a fifty year excavation (pg. 16). Many questions may be answered from these discoveries concerning the influence of Greek and Roman rule on Egyptian life (pg. 18).
Hawass gives the reader some insight on what it is like to be part of the excavation. Digging up black sand, for example, is an indication that one is getting close to a mummy (pg. 33). He describes the overpowering smells one experiences when uncovering a mummy that has been under the sand for thousands of years and what it is like to be brushing away and then to suddenly be greeted by the stare of an obsidian eye (pg. 53). He describes a mummy being prepared for transport and his own experience with the curse of the mummies forcing him to send the father of two child mummies to the museum to reunite the family (chapter 6).
Besides the golden mummies, other amazing discoveries in Bahariya are detailed in this book including an ancient wine factory (the first of its kind to be discovered), temples to the God of Bes and Hercules, and the only temple honoring Alexander the Great known to exist. Hawass describes the history of Bahariya as well as daily life as it exists today. Then, of course, there are the hundreds of breathtaking color photographs of the unique mummies, temples, and artifacts found at the sites. Because the sites described in this book are still under excavation, the defnitive book on the Valley of the Golden Mummies is yet to come and, if the author is correct, will take fifty years to complete. Still, the book offers interesting info on the sites up to this point in time although some of the copious details of mummies and artifacts gets tedious, especially in the last chapters. The book is 223 pages and includes an index, bibliography, and chronology of Egyptian rulers.
Coffee Table Book.......2002-02-12
This was an interesting book and covered a number of topics involving the find of the Golden Mummies. However, it is more of a coffee table book than a serious tome on the subject.
Valley of the Golden Mummies.......2001-09-09
You can not totally appreciate the book and photos unless you have been there. I was there in April/2001 and it was beyond words. The book is an outstanding document of the oasis area.
Book Description
Dan thinks mummies are really cool, so it doesn't take him long to decide what to write about for his history report. Once he starts reading, Dan finds out about the Valley of the Golden Mummies, which was discovered just a few years ago. He learns what the ancient Egyptians thought life after death would be like, and how they prepared for it. Best of all, Dan learns about cool stuff like mummy curses, animal mummies, and the fascinating details of the mummy-making process.

Book Description
This guide to the Joseph Downs Collection of Manuscripts and Printed Ephemera, named for Winterthur's first curator, provides descriptive information for the primary research material held in the collection. The Downs Collection acquires materials from the mid seventeenth century through the twentieth century that document American lifestyles, concentrating on the domestic scene and activities within the household and art. It includes such items as diaries, business accounts of craftsmen whose products decorated dwelling houses, family papers, tax records, swatchbooks that contain century-old fabric samples, architectural drawings used in the construction of homes, artists' sketchbooks, wills and household inventories, children's toys and games, and scrapbooks and journals. Items from individuals famous in American history rest alongside materials from people who led routine lives yet still contributed to the development of America. An extensive microform collection, including copies of material owned by other public repositories and private individuals, supplements the manuscript holdings.

Both Too Much and Too Little .......2006-09-20
Howard Wood's The Dendrobiums is a massive volume, numbering xxiii+ 847 pp. + 117 pp of photographs - approximately 1000 pp. at the hefty retail price of $150 USD. This volume covers quite a range of topics and certainly is the most comprehensive available volume on the tribe Dendrobieae. Unfortunately, I do not think the volume to be worth the price, even at the substantial discounts at which it is presently available. In brief, the numerous typographic (including type setting) errors are very distracting and speak for a need for a careful and thorough edit. More importantly, I found this volume to be based too frequently on personal opinion and conjecture, without adequate development of his opinions and conclusions. For example, the author says he is not trying to make taxonomic changes, while in places he makes them, usually with little explanation. The sections on numerical taxonomy and DNA analysis are particularly incomplete, leaning heavily upon Yukawa's research, and in general the writing on the evolution and ecology of the tribe is not very insightful. Figures appear without adequate captions or explanation. The sections on plant and flower anatomy and the regional/country floras are useful, and the regional floras are available nowhere else except in a comprehensive university or museum library. Citations and references are fully given in the extensive bibliography. The photographs are mostly from Wood's own collection, as are the cultural notes. For the amateur grower, the cultural notes are likely to be less than helpful, since by Wood's own admission they are based upon his experience only - and all rather discouraging, since he found so many species to be unsustainable in cultivation. In brief, the major flaw of this volume is its comprehensiveness. There is something for everyone, but not enough detail to satisfy virtually anyone. Wood's work is a step in the right direction, but given his note concerning how much work is needed, points to how far we have to go to get something better. On balance, as a grower I found the photos of species not to be found anywhere else to be the most useful element in this volume; as a scientist, I found the citations and references to be most useful. However, the combination as it is represented in this book is not very satisfactory. I find the two volumes by Baker and Baker and Lavarack et al., combined with Jay Pfahl's species encyclopedia on the internet, to constitute a more useful set of resources for this subject than The Dendrobiums.
The Dendrobiums.......2006-08-27
A very good book for the serious student of the subject.
For the dendrobium grower of an advanced status the "notes on the species" is rather thin, i.e. that section could have been enlarged. To fill some gaps, perhaps just a simplified list of species with name, origin and C, Int. or W might have helped. But in conjunction with other literature on dendrobiums, it is a great font of knowledge.
Thanks.
Book Description
Dendrobium is an enormous orchid genus of more than 1000 species native to south Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and Oceania. They are highly popular among orchid growers for their beauty and diversity. This study by three plant scientists who are also active orchid growers presents more than 400 of the species, all illustrated with color photographs. Almost all the horticulturally popular species are included, along with some lesser-known but spectacular species recently discovered in the highlands of New Guinea that are likely to become popular in the future.

My handbook on the genus Dendrobium.......2007-01-04
This is a really great authoritive book with plenty of information on the genus and a lot of informative pictures. At my opinion, it is the most best organised book on the Dendrobiums presently on market.
Awesome!!!!.......2003-07-29
I am an avid Dendrobium orchid grower.
Absolutely love this book, there are few orchids books around that go this indepth into any genera of orchid keeping. It's good to see a detailed book which give plenty of cultural information on each species. I particularly liked the descriptions of the natural growing environments, it helps me with their cultural requirements so I can grow them in my glass house.
This one is a most own book for any Dendrobium grower or any orchid show judge.
It's really A To Z Dendrobium species book!.......2002-09-09
This book really help me to identify Dendrobium species and its relative like Epigenium and Flickengeria, almost all popular Dendrobium species from India, S.E Asia and some Pacific island included. Good color plate and description about plant origins and distribution. A must have book for Orchid lover.
First rate super buy!.......2000-12-06
Having grown orchids for more than 20 years, this book is outstanding in it's treatment of the genus Dendrobium. There are lots of superb features which are helpful the novice and the scientist. Particularly useful are the tables denoting geographic distribution, sectional division of like-groups of Dendrobs, and individual color-plates with information on hundreds of plants.
Must have for any serious grower. Can be a great coffee table book as well. Why did I just by one for a gift?... James Roberts --- Roberts Orchids
Excellent Resource for Dendrobium Growers.......2000-11-23
This book covers every aspect of Dendrobium culture, from the plant origins, biology, conservation, cultivation and hybridization.
The chapter on cultivation goes into great detail about growing Dendrobiums from seed including flasking and caring for the seedlings.
Approximately 175 pages are then devoted to photos and detailed information on 413 species of Dendrobium.
The Dendrobium family is very large and hard to generalize, making this book a big help in locating information about your specific orchids.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

ASIN: 0954723082 |
Book Description
In this exciting and insightful book, June explores all aspects of Sacred Dance, its past, present and future. She discusses forms and techniques and the spirit of liberation that comes with truly going with the Flow. Modern Circle Dancing was begun at Findhorn College in the UK in 1974 by Bernard Wosien, who is Watt's teacher. The movement has spread worldwide and is growing still - there are Circle Dancing groups in all states of the USA and in many countries of the world. Watts offers full and detailed instructions about the people, the places, the dances, and the music of the Sacred Dance Movement.
An entertaining and inspiring book-deep and informative and full of passion. -- Dame Judi Dench
Customer Reviews:
Circle Dancing is highly recommended for anyone intrigued by the practice and its implications .......2006-11-05
Written by Sacred/Circle dancer and choreographer June Watts, Circle Dancing: Celebrating the Sacred in Dance is a spiritual exploration of the connection between the modern sacred dance movement as practiced by women today, and its ancient heritage. Chapter discuss how the dance affects mother earth, expressing oneself in consciousness and form, symbols and shapes incorporated into the dance rhythm, birthing dances, white magic incorporated into dances, and much more. As much as a metaphysical evaluation of circle dancing as it is a how-to guide, Circle Dancing is highly recommended for anyone intrigued by the practice and its implications for promoting wellness, connective bonds, and deeper spiritual awareness.
