Book Description
Wild London...A bustling city of seven million people, but home to some of Britain's rarest species of wildlife...It is a thriving metropolis, yet one of the greenest capitals in the world. In contrast to the normal vision of London, this book showcases the astonishing, remarkable and fascinating diversity of wildlife to be found within its boundaries - from familiar species to the rare and unusual...inhabiting ancient woodlands or living on high-rise office blocks...
The sumptuous photography of "Wild London" by internationally acclaimed wildlife photographer, lain Green, allows the reader to explore the nature of the capital through the changing seasons. Discover the floral anarchy in Downing Street, newts at Heathrow, stag nights in south London, tranquil urban wetlands, theatreland frogs, power station peregrines, bee orchids, bluebells, black redstarts, water voles and even seals and dolphins in the Thames - just a few of the city's wild highlights. A descriptive and informative text looking at London's important habitats and species complements 175 beautiful photographs.

Customer Reviews:
A banal guide. There are definitely better.......2005-01-09
Of the three guides that I took with me to South American (Footprint, Rough Guide and this guide) all have their strengths and weak points: Fodor's has more of the latter.
Fodor's South America guide excels as a business person's guide. Its usefulness is limited to a few principal cities in each country and the main tourist attractions. Fodor's recommendations of hotels and restaurants are normally well worth heeding, and this was often the primary reason I used this guide; however, I need to caveat this point.
I am a firm believer that any guide book worth its salt has many `easy to read' maps - Fodor's does not. Location maps, help you to locate the recommended restaurant (or hotel) listed in the guide and are essential to all guides. Fodor has location maps ONLY for 7 cities out of the10 countries that are profiled in the book (FYI - there are thirteen countries in South America). This guide has NO OTHER location maps. A serious failure.
This is a 2004 publication (thus the information was gathered in 2002 & 2003, normal for guides) and Fodor's does list the webpage of `most' of the hotel in profiles, but none of the recommended restaurants have their web listing included, and in today's Internet world, most all of the upscale restaurants have a web page with photos, menus and prices.
Finally, the layout was more cumbersome to use than either Footprint or Rough Guide. The guide does not separate their recommended accommodations and restaurants. The guide uses a quirky, icon dollar sign rating to delineate the cost of accommodations and restaurants, so you flip back to the legend to remember how much $$$ was, BUT, that reference changes in every country. So three $$$ dollar signs equal one amount in Peru but a different amount in Paraguay. A hassle indeed, it would be much more sensible just to tell the reader what the cost of rooms or food will be in dollars. Keep it simple Fodor's.
For those that will actually explore South America Rough Guide is my first choose, [see my review] followed closely by Footprint. Fodor's is an `also-ran' guide. Conditionally recommended 2.5 stars

Customer Reviews:
Entertaining and informative.......2002-03-06
A great book for those seeking basic information about medieval armor. Not real deep but enjoyable for both young readers and adults. A good companion for other sources.
Excellent book for kids AND adults.......1998-02-16
Knights in Armor gives an overview of the history of knighthood from its beginnings in the early Middle Ages to its demise. The book also explains the feudal system, women's roles in the Middle Ages and quick history of the Crusades. Especially wonderful are the full-page color photographs of people dressed in medieval clothes and armor depicting scenes of yesteryear. I highly recommend this book for anyone, not just children, who are interested in the Middles Ages (if only for the photographs).
Book Description
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) is one of the most popular artists ever. Who, for example, has never heard of the "Mona Lisa"? But did you know he was also an inventor and engineer who made drawings of flying machines and helicopters - and this was centuries ago? Rich in ideas, delighted to experiment, and a keen observer, he was truly an all-around genius. In this book you can explore all these aspects and of course meet the real Mona Lisa as well!

(Adventures in Art) Leonardo Da Vinci: Dreams, Schemes, and Flying Machines.......2006-03-25
You can call me StoryMaker and I can call this product great! This book tells you about some of Leonardo Da Vinci's ideas, pictures, and life. It tells you all about Leonardo's unfinished work. One of the best parts is, it explains Leonardo's pictures and unbuilt machine ideas. It explains the portrait of the Mona Lisa, including the Mona Lisa's real name. It also explains Leonardo's techniques and interests. However, the only pictures are Leonardo's work and models of some of his unfinished work made many years later. This isn't so bad, but hey, reviews are better when they mention bad parts. I also must say that if you're looking for a book all about Leonardo's life, this isn't the best choice. Overall, a nice book about Leonardo Da Vinci that, although it has its poor parts, is a great choice for learning about the renaissance period. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
QUICK STUDY OF LEONARDO.......2000-06-26
If you are looking for a quick study of Leonardo da Vinci, this book will detail some of the masters outstanding accomplishments achieved throughout the course of his life. Using a inquiry format, a variety of questions are posed and answered in brief about the inventions, paintings and techniques employed by da Vinci. This book highlights important works, and provides the reader of an overview of the incredible lifetime achievements (and quirks) of the artist. I really liked this book, and will use it as a quick reference.

Kinship with others.......2004-05-05
Most people around me seem to be more polite than understanding when I talk about losing my dog, Lincoln. It doesn't matter anymore after reading this book. They don't understand the depth of our relationship, but the writers in this book do. I wish I had someone in person who knew, but going back to this book every once in a while gets me through. This book will be my rock as long as I need it.
Not Alone Anymore.......2001-12-02
Finally I don't feel so weird about my feelings toward my rabbit. People made fun of me, but now I know I am ok and I will be able to get through this. Thank you.
Not for me.......2001-11-27
I appreciate the other reviews I read and am glad these people found this book to their needs - but I did not. I just don't see how hearing about someone else's losses helps me - I am already bogged down in my own pain. Anyway - that's all I wanted to say.
Fantastic book.......2000-11-23
Being a man, it is hard to express emotions of pain. This book helped me understand my grief as perfectly acceptable and that there are other males who have faced this same kind of social misunderstanding and that it is normal and meaningful to mourn the loss of one of my best friends - my dog, Ranger. So many of us don't know until we lose our animal friends just how important they were in our lives. I will always be grateful to the friend who gave me this book as a gift - it helped me so much.
Some letters in this book are good for the soul, but..........2000-06-29
...as a responsible pet owner, I find it very difficult to empathize with those letter-writers whose pets died accidentally (left outside and hit by car while owner went inside and continued getting ready to go to work) or (missing/lost) the three-month-old kitten who never returned (owner and kitten moved into a strange house one day, and the very next day the owner put the kitten outside to "explore" while owner went to work all day). Both owners expressed their grief, but both losses could have been prevented if the owners had acted responsibly. Of course, both stories just broke my heart as I am an animal lover and caretaker of 4 pets. But animals like cats and dogs are often like children -- you can't just let them wander about on their own. They look to you, their owner, to look out for them because they can't. I expected a book of letters from responsible pet owners who really knew how to take care of their pets.

Customer Reviews:
A Good Book for Starters!.......1999-08-19
This book is an excellent book for people who are just starting their collection of Succulents and Cacti. It starts off with the basics of succulents, discusses care and setting up your garden. It also has a fairly good index to succulents. The photos are not the greatest, and sometimes they don't focus on the plant, but the flowers. However, the information they give on each plant is valuable, as well as gives several recommended species. An added bonus is the common name index at the end. This I found to be the most helpful since most people use common names. A lot of the other index books don't have common names listed. All in all, this is a good book. It's a bit dated in the pictures, but I found it a good start. I am purchasing another book now for more extensive index to succulents.
