As a fan of cinema history I found this book enlightening!.......1998-11-13
I found this book filled in many gaps I had of my early cinema knowledge. Often making references to many little known events, it set the stage for what was to become mainstream animation.
Better with some revisions........1998-05-12
As a brazilian animator I tried to start to read this book by the Latin american section, and comprehensively, by the one that shows the status of animation in my country, Brazil, a reality that I know very well.I don't know where Mr. Bendazzi got his informations for this part of the book.What I know is that it's full of strange or, at least unknown names of people for most of the brazilian animators, illustrators figuring as animators, besides the absence of five or six of the really most important animators in my country.Because of all that,I'm affraid the rest of the book, at least in those sections telling about the animation in Latin America still needs to be revised.

I found 2 boxes of old comic books probaly from the 60's and 70's are they worth anything or can I throw them away??
INACCURATE AND INCOMPLETE.......1999-06-27
I purchased the 98 edition of this book, and unless it has been completely rewritten, it is very inaccurate. Some titles were completely left out of the book. Some titles did not have every issue listed. I purchased this book to use as an inventory guide. It fails miserably. I have had to completely abandon it.
Inflated, inaccurate pricing........1999-06-06
I found most prices for books I own (or was looking to buy) not to be accurate. The Overstreet price guide is much more realistic when you go to buy and sell (especially when you sell!). I literally threw this guide away and bought the Overstreet. Overstreet is not 100% accurate, but it is much,much closer to the truth. This industry has enough problems without complicating it more with several different price guides each touting completely different prices...

This book presents month-by-month plans for growing your garden in Illinois. It gives tips on such activities as planting, pruning, fertilizing, and so much more. The plans are organized into categories, including annuals, bulbs, herbs, vegetables, houseplants, lawns, perennials, roses, shrubs and trees. I love this book, and recommend it wholeheartedly!
Lots of good, basic advice.......1999-05-20
I liked the book. Its packed full of useful information. I'm a hobby gardener, not an expert and I found lots of useful hints. I'm sure I'll be able to follow the steps. Charts are used to give the reader find condensed information on specific plants. Its not a book of pretty pictures but the layout is easy to read and the pages are attractive. At first, I was surprised at the use of "Brand names" but decided that recommendations are always welcome and I can always find substitutes if I want to. I have only one complaint. There's no index. I saw some information on mildew but spent over an hour trying to locate it again. The table of contents is helpful in a general way but the book would be more useful if it were indexed. I'm going to have to use bookmarks to mark things I'm interested in - there are lots of those.

If you like this book, and you will, you might want to look over other books in this series. They include helpful books on Ilinois perennials, annuals, trees & shrubs. The other books are not as inclusive as this volume, but they are equally well written and just as sturdy.

The bilingual (Aramaic-Hebrew) concordance to the Targum of the Prophets is the product of an international project based in the Theological University of the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, Kampen (ThUK) and supported by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). With this publication a major research tool becomes available to those engaged in research in Biblical and Jewish studies. For the first time meaningful quotations from the Targum and the Masoretic Hebrew text of the Bible are set out in parallel so that the user of the concordance can study the translation technique of the Targum in much greater detail than was hitherto possible. For comparative purposes the concordance is published per book of the Prophets. Eventually a complete concordance will become available in electronic form. The concordance makes a wealth of largely unknown material accessible to researchers. The discovery of the presumed-lost Song of the Lamb, referred to in Rev. 15:3, by members of the editorial team vividly illustrates the importance of such a concordance to both Judaic and New Testament studies. The concordance will also be an indispensable tool for the textual criticism and the history of interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. To facilitate consultation on the basis of the Hebrew, every concordance per book contains a Hebrew-Aramaic index. The final volume will contain a cumulative Hebrew-Aramaic index. I love this book and how it gives the history of the plays, the period it was created in and information about the playwrights. I bought this book because my granddaughter is studying theatre and was having problems understanding the language usage of plays dating back to the Roman/Greco period and medieval times. Together we correspond over our webcams and go over the text. I actually enjoy it more than she does. Perhaps it is because I don't have to take the tests or write the papers.

A Collection Of 48 Important Plays.......2005-01-10
This book remains first and foremost the most comprehensive anthology available: a collection of 48 important plays that have shaped dramatic literature from the time of the early Greek dramatists to the present.
The book covers the great ages of drama, the genres of drama and elements of drama. The great ages of drama include: Greek drama, Roman drama, Medieval drama, Renaissance drama, late seventeenth & eighteenth century drama, nineteenth century drama through the turn of the century, drama in the early and mid-twentieth century and contemporary drama.
Not quite good enough.......2003-11-11
The Bedford Introduction To Drama, in its Fourth edition, has a number of virtues. Much of the selection is good, the illustrations are good and often helpful, and the introductions to each period and to individual plays are often very good. Of course, some of them are predictable: it would be nice to see some exciting Strindberg for a change; Miss Julie is really getting weary. However, it is when when we reach the second half of the Twentieth century that the quality breaks down. We find the same tired list of plays chosen for their political correctness: something on race, something for feminists, etc, etc, with very litte convincing attention paid to what has actually happened in the theatre, viewed either from the point of view of box officee appeal (which was a good enough criterion for Shakespeare), or what is likely to be historically influential. A major exception is Mamet's OLEANNA, guaranteed to stir disagreement and excitement in the classroom as it does in the theatre. Each reader will find other exceptions, but the predictability and tedium of the modern selection is disappointing. This text is widely used in classrooms, incuding my own, because there is no satisfactory alternative, but as a text for modern theatre it's a failure, and it's VERY expensive for a student's budget.

The Bedford Drama book and The third edition are wonderful additions to classroom settings in teaching theatre. Covering all major genre and many of the "important" dramitist, anyone can find a play in this book to teach or enjoy.

Okay - served its purpose.......2007-01-09
I had to buy this book as part of a college course curriculum.
It basically is filled with a bunch of plays written in various time periods around the world. It is arranged chronologically so there is a good amount of background information in the book on the different time periods.
In each 'chapter' or section of the book there is a brief introduction about the time period in which the plays were written. Then, for each play there is a short section before and after the play which gives prelude and summary which can help you further understand some of the more complicated plays. There are reviews by famous authors and playwrights as well following each play.
The reason I give this book only 3 stars is because there were many segments of the book which were very difficult to read and follow. I found myself many times going back over a particular section and reading it four and five times to make sense of it (mostly in the summaries and reviews - the plays were in original format and I had already read most of them at some point in my grammar school years). Now, I am a very intelligent person so if I find a section of reading difficult, the average reader will find it extremely difficult. Plus, I am not a major fan of literary arts which I'm sure contributes highly to this.

Bedford's handbook is quite handy for a non-expert. Anyone who's going to be teaching Shakespeare but hasn't written a dissertation on him ought to pick one up.
A Must Read for Any and All Interested in Shakespeare.......2003-12-19
This book is a great overview of all things Shakespeare. It intorduces the man himself, the language of the works, the culture of the Elizabethans and the theatre, sosurces, and basic scholarly criticism and ideas. A wonderful foundational text with primary documents which greatly enhance the reading and give the subject a new life.
Excellent and Informative.......2003-09-04
Russ McDonald is not someone many people have heard of, unless you happen to live in the world of Shakespeare scholars, in which case, I would be surprised if you have not. Mr. McDonald was for a long time associated with the Folger Library, and has edited numerous volumes of the Penguin Shakespeare editions, among other credentials. I have had the good fortune to be in one of his classes, and I can think of no one else I have ever met that has so much love and appreciation for Shakespeare's genius, while simultaneously being able to pass that to his students. I honestly don't think there is anything this man *doesn't* know about Shakespeare.
That being said, The Bedford Companion is less about The Bard, and more so about the times in which he lived. While attention is given to his plays, equal attention is given to such things as the history of the Globe Theater, Shakespeare's early life, the economic situations of the time, and a history of Shakespeare appreciation, or "Bardolatry". It shows Shakespeare as a human, as a buisinessman, a family man, and how he eventually become know as the greatest writer in the English language. (Most of his plays weren't published until after his death.) This book may not help you fully understand Hamlet, but it can certainly make it more interesting.

Its been almost 13 years since I had the pleasure of enjoying Russ McDonald's insight on Shakespeare first hand and it was a pleasure re-engaging with his wit and insight again via this text.
Excellent documentary source.......2000-11-23
Russ McDonald's book provides excellent materials that help students to see the time in which Shakespeare lived. I use it everytime I teach Shakespeare. Note, I'm 13 and under, but Amazon's review system is funky (see!).
I recommend this book for those who enjoy reading British literature from the 16th and 17th centuries not just Shakespeare.
