An exellent book on the subject........2003-06-25
What can i say. I have numerous books on the subject and this one, like all the others books written by Turner, are top ranking. With detaild information on how the plants were used by indiginous people.
excellent source for edible plants in the pacific northwest.......2000-06-10
This book is really impressive. It has a lot more information than a standard "pocket guide" book. There are numerous food sources in this book that i have never seen in other similiar books. an example: this book explains in detail how native americans harvested the inner bark (cambium) of the western hemlock to make a flour like substance. I have never read this in any other plant books. The book also includes information on how to prepare the food in traditional ways, as well as stories related to particular plants. All in all, this is probably the best book I know of concerning edible wild plants in the pacific northwest.
This richly illustrated book details over 150 plant species........1998-06-10
This richly illustrated book details over 150 plant species used by First Peoples/Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest Interior.
Revised and redesigned for easier use, this handbook includes detailed botanical descriptions and notes on habitat and distribution.
Groups covered are the Stl'atl'imx (Lillooet), Secwepemc (Sushwap), Nlaka'pamux (Thompson), Okanagan, Ktunaxa (Kootenay), Tsimshian and Athapaskan groups in the north, and others in northwestern U.S.A.
Nancy Turner explains how aboriginal peoples harvested, prepared and preserved the roots, leaves, fruits and other parts of wild plants. She also describes some non-native food plants used by interior peoples and several species they considered poisonous or inedible. Color pictures enhance descriptions and make identification easier.
Book Description
A thorough revision of this comprehensive guide to the popular ABC islands, located just off the Venezuelan coast. Discover the quiet life of Bonaire, gamble away at Aruba's casino, hit the high-style designer clothing stores in Curaçao, and relax on the glorious white beaches of all three! Here is the ultimate guide to discovering the high life and cool spots of the ABCs, written by authors who have sacrificed their vacations to research this book (poor things!). This Alive Guide focuses on shopping (snatch up some duty-free bargains), hotels and restaurants (colorful local cuisine and fine dining alike), with special attention paid to the cream of the crop. Sightseeing, historical walking tours, wildlife discovery, and watersports are also covered. The activity-oriented Sunup to Sundown sections will fill your day with beaches, deep-sea fishing charters, diving excursions, moped rides and more, while After Dark tells you of the best happy hours, the liveliest clubs and the bars where things really hop! Handy A-Z sections for each island provide all the practical details - airline offices, banking hours and locations, emergency telephone numbers, shopping hours, tourist information booths. Easy-to-read maps and a detailed index complete the picture.
Customer Reviews:
Better off with other guide books.......2007-05-15
I have just returned from Curacao. I found this book to be a complete dud. The only thing it helped me with were the guide to beaches up on the northern part of the island. It said nothing about what is one of the best resorts in the Caribbean, Kura Hulanda and it's Slave Museum. Chech out Kula Hulanda on the web. This book also said nothing about a departure tax at the airport while it seems to address alot of fluff.
You would do better with other guide books. I have not been to Aruba or Bonaire so I can't say if the book is better for those two islands but I would bet not.

Are You Serious?.......2002-12-20
I would bet a thousand chip at the casino that all of these perfect reviews were written by people who are affiliated with the guide and who stand to profit from it. Tell me I'm wrong. Look at the language in these reviews, it screams plant.

Customer Reviews:
NICE!.......2006-01-04
FLOOLY COOLY! FLCL! FLOOLY COOLY! FLCL! FLOOLY COOLY! FLCL! WOW! What a great two book series! By far the hardest to follow manga I've read, but definately the funniest. Great Stuff. If your new 2 reading manga then maybe you should see the anime first (very bright but slightly less hard to follow). Some parts seem to skip around, so my advice is to just keep reading OR flip ahead of the confusing part and read that, then go back to the confusing part and put both togeather.
(If this is confuing just read the book). Overall great ending and funny but CONFUSING plot. Nice!
Harmonious Discord.......2005-12-31
FLCL was easily the strangest anime I have ever seen, even stranger than those last two episodes of Evangelian, or the semi-weird Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi. The manga is very much like the anime, in that it does little to explain itself. If you don't get what's going on, who cares. Someday down the line you will, but for now there is more story to unfold, more action to witness, and so on and so forth.
In volume 2, easily the most valuable of the two volume series, contains a great added story that can't be seen in the anime (at least, not the entire thing). It involves Naota and Ninamori, and how they are actually very much alike. The anime buzzes through this quick interaction between these characters in thirty quick minutes, but in the manga it takes two chapters to tell it. I won't spoil it, but in the manga, Ninamori and Naota never go to his house because of the news scandal involving her father and his affair. It's actually so startlingly different and well done that I wonder why it was neglected in the anime. It could have added at least another episode to the short OVA. Another thing you'll notice is that one of the key characters in the series, Mr. Eyebrows, is gone completely. He plays no role in the manga.
This volume of the manga isn't perfect, though. The problem I had was actually a story problem, that being the abrupt ending, as though they just ran out of ideas. Also, like the first volume, the second volume has a strange, non-linear art style that is sometimes a little too wild and experimental. Few outside the fans of the series will find anything worth reading here. In fact, most who pick it up will no doubt leave with the impression that it was one of the worst manga they had ever seen. That being said, I can't recommend it to anyone but fans of the series, or possibly fans of Evangelion. Or for anyone who enjoys experimentation, because here is the ultimate experiment, and a good one at that.
From the insanity of the maker of End Of Evangelion........2004-02-01
The same man who made "End of Evangelion" comes back with a little piece of his mind of pure insanity. In a world gone mad, young Noaka is trying to live a normal life in his little hometown. With his brother gone to America, his ex-girlfriend chasing after him, and an alien from outer space, saying that she is here to "protect" the world.
flcl is better than the bible.......2003-12-18
ok some of you anime nerds come here and critisize the manga because it wasn't like the anime. hello. wake up. it's called artistic differences. take battle royale for example the movie and the book were extremely different but did i hate the movie because everything in the book didn't happen exactly, no. to tell you the truth im really glad its not like the anime. why would i want to buy something that i have already seen? but some of you out there buy stuff just to waste money. if your smart you will pick this up and keep and open mind about it. understand a story is never set in stone and new and different takes are nice.
L. Briggs doesnt know what hes talking about.......2003-12-04
yes he doesnt know what the hell hes talking about the drawings where drawn like that on porpose and are still great and sure the story got changed somewhat but if you really were a fan of it youd look past that well i could go on and on about how wrong he is but hey hes intitled to his own opinion oh, and no offense to each his own. but this is still a great book and it should be in every fans shelf.

Book Description
Sara Stein is nuts about animals. Over the years she's raised a monkey, a coyote, and a horned toad, and she came within a heartbeat of taking home a wallaby. In this mammoth pet encyclopedia she identifies dozens of unusual and not-so-unusual critters that make great pets in the house, in the yard, and in the wild. Stein even suggests temporary pets kids can bring home to observe overnight and return to their natural habitat the next morning.
Stein's recommendations suit every domestic situation. Skunks, for example, work well in an apartment. A big backyard is ideal for keeping a goat or two. If parents don't want a pet running through the house, tarantulas are happy in a nice glass vivarium. And if indoor pets are out of the question, Stein explains how to befriend the pigeons in the park or the rabbits in the yard.
For all her enthusiasm, Stein takes a common-sense approach to pets. Each entry discusses diet, housing, special problems, life span, and just how tame you can expect the pet to become. She also tells you whom to call if you wind up with a sick snake or an angry parrot. Stein devotes an entire chapter to which type of vivarium, aquarium, serpentarium, cage, or hutch is best suited to which creature. She even explains how to build an inexpensive-but-comfortable habitat.
Whether you like them furry, slithery, slimy, or scaly; whether you want one that swims, crawls, leaps, flies, or hardly moves at all, you'll find a pet in this book suited to every family's taste.
Customer Reviews:
Nice work!.......2005-10-28
There's a lot of pap on the animal/pet book market, but this one rises above the rest. Written clearly and with personality and experience, Sara Stein also includes diagrams on how to construct shelters for the animals in this book. Great job!
A book to return to again and again!.......2005-06-19
I highly reccomend this book if you to are a mass-animal (especially pets) lover, such as my self. This book covers so many awesome pets. It covers a very wide range of pets, from reptilians to rodents! Spot on!:) Get it at your local library if you can't buy it! Believe me, you'll check it out again and again!
One of the greatest pet books ever..........1999-08-09
Unlike most pet books "Great Pets" offers very serious and consise pet care information in a very easily followed format. I bought 'Great Pets' in the 70's from one of the book clubs that are designed for children. It formed the foundation of what I know about raising animals. The results over the years have been amazing.
I now have canaries that have been with me for years. I have had dogs, cats, ferrets, alligators, fish, turtles...and more. Not all at once by the way. My vets have been quite suprised at the care, health and longevity that my pets have experienced.
'Great Pets' set this foundation. To the author I am greatful. Not only is it filled w/all sorts of information about pet care, but, you will find plans for building anything from an insect cage to chicken coop to goat house. If you are serious about having good healthy pets for you or your children stop reading this and scroll up and hit your 'one-click' or add to your shopping cart.
It is a darn shame this book is out of print. It is definately worth updating and re-publishing.
The best, most comprehensive book on pet care I've seen!.......1999-06-22
I purchased this book as a kid in the 70's and think it is probably still my favorite book. The author knows what she is talking about and gives great advice on care of "pets" as diverse as crickets and salamanders to goats and dogs! The sections on building homes for pets is great. For kids and adults, this book is an informative and fun reference on animal care and responsible pet ownership!
A Book that will cover all the pets you ever imagined..........1999-06-10
This book is by an author who has kept hundreds of pets over the years. She knows a lot about the pets that you may never even think of. This book is good for deciding what pet is good or you and a great start on keeping one of the tons of pets listed. It also includes a construction of the homes or cages for each pet, plus a instructional on how to make it. ;-)

Although Africa has fewer orchid species than the other tropical continents, some of the world's most spectacular, and increasingly popular, terrestrial orchids are found in Africa. This guide, covering sub-Saharan Africa, includes all plants available from nurseries and many that are being grown but are not yet available in the trade.
Customer Reviews:
African Orchids by Isobyl and Eric Lacroix.......2004-09-30
This is one of the finest books published on the topic of African orchids. Although Africa is a continent relatively poor in orchid species there are still about 1550 species in 99 genera and they deserve to be better known and more frequently grown in collections. Until the ground-breaking work of luminaries such as Fred Hillerman very little attention was given by orchidists to the African species. I am pleased to see the Lacroix's volume carrying on Hillerman's bright path. This is a comprehensive book with many line drawings and colour illustrations that is well-written and includes a section on African orchid hybrids as well as important cultural information on many diverse species. Highly recommended.

Book Description
An entertaining and highly illuminating account of Commedia's origins as a popular theatrical form, plus a practical and timely step-by-step guide to using commedia techniques in performance.
Customer Reviews:
A Must-Read for Present-Day Commedia Lovers.......2006-06-15
Rudlin compacts a ton of useful information, in history of the art, Mask/character analyzation, and current day Commedia practitioners. I've found it a very reliable source for the subject and reccommend it to anyone interested in Commedia dell'Arte, either practically or academically.
the best place to start............2004-04-12
Obviously commedia dell'arte is a live theatre form, and obviously you know a bit about commedia otherwise you wouldn't be reading this review. As far as any book can help anyone do live theatre, especially a form so comic and forceful, then ths book can. Nowhere it loses sight of the fact that its job is to encourage people to action and performance and then begin to discover for themselves. It is not an esoteric bible of secret facts which will allow anyone to become a commedia performer. It is an actor's manual and, if you cannot find adequate live teaching of the form, it is one of the best books you can find to start with.
literature for the slow of mind.......2001-05-30
this book was totaly distasteful, its readers must have been completly moronic to give it such a good review dont buy this book if you can help it.
Wonderful coverage for being so short........2001-04-24
If you're at all interested in Commedia and have not yet read this book, I highly recommend it. It would be beneficial for anyone at any level. Every section is just wonderful and gives out so much "secret" information. There's even an appendix on how to make leather masks in the traditional method. I have searched and not been able to find many other books that touch on that subject. It's an interesting read the whole way through and handy as a reference forever after.
Success.......1999-10-27
This book is a master piece. It explains everything in detail of how to step into to the characters etc.
Success
