Book Description
There is no easy was to identify grasses. And no one understood this better than H.D. Harrington, who observed thousands of students struggle and learn. His clear, concise, and well-organized guide will continue to be a basic and essential text for use in the classroom or in the field. The book contains over 500 drawings and an illustrated glossary.
Customer Reviews:
Poor book.......2007-08-29
With this book, you will know all about how to identify a grass, and not be able to identify a single one. It reminds me of the new husband who sits on the edge of the bed and tells his new wife how wonderful it is going to be, but never gets around to it.
I returned the book.
Harrington Guides.......2007-07-15
There are a lot of plants that become colorful on the earth.
The plant that occupies the majority of Holocene place is a grasses and grasslike plants.
However, if it is not a specialist, the grasses and grasslike plant are not distinguished easily.
I am a farmer. The grasses and grasslikes were an annoying weed in me.
This book is a book that gave me new feeling to the grasses and grasslikes. It is not an interpretation weed in me any further any longer. I give my thanks to Doctor Harrington.
This book is as splendid as "Peterson first guides".
I call this book and "How to identify plants" "HARRINGTON MANUALS" !
A lot of information in nearly pocket size book.......2007-03-03
I finally bought a copy of this book for myself after having to borrow it from my plant friends and professors. They would not permit it out of their sight! Anyway it is a very good start to getting accustomed to grasses. They can be quite challenging to identify but this book is very helpful. It is pretty basic, to the point and recommended. It may be a bit challenging for a newbie, but really there is no easy way to learn plant terminology. This one is a good ice breaker!
How to Identify Grasses & Grasslike Plants.......2003-04-10
This book is practical and systematic. The topic is difficult, at best, and the author gives all the tools and understanding needed to build up your skills. As a consultant that works with native plant materials, I have found this book to be a useful field reference in separating out invasive species.
Best glossary.......2002-03-13
Not especially useful for beginner grass identification because concentrates on structural detail rather than overall appearance of growth. However, I recommend it for its excellent illustrated glossary.

Six months later! and No book has ever shown up!.......2006-03-26
BEWARE! I ordered this book almost six months ago and I've been told numerous times that it's delayed, over and over again. Needless to say, no book yet! I wish I could tell you it's a good one as I was so looking forward to reading it, but I suggest that if you're looking for a book to use as a guide for your trip, just buy an up to date publication once you're actually in Dubai!
Don't go to Dubai without but bring another..........2000-12-18
The best guide of the region but most of the thickness of the book comes from the extensive dining and shopping directory. However, that might be just what you are looking for. As an American on business I would have like to have seen a more spent covering customs, history, and pictures.
I suggest also bringing along "Lonely Planet Dubai".
Don't leave home without it !.......2000-03-25
Very informative and up-to-date guide - useful for visitors and expats alike. Split into 8 broad sections the guide starts with the usual general help - including cultural and practical information. Particularly liked the summary boxes and top tips - saves a lot of time ! The hotels listing may be disappointing for visitors (just a contact list) but the guide more than makes up for this by the great Eating Out/On the Town sections, with price guide and pretty accurate reviews of restaurants and the varied nightlife. The New Residents section is an essential reading for expats or potential expats - great practical information. The 'Exploring', 'Pleasure and Leisure' and 'Sporting activities' sections contain all a reader needs to know about what to do in the Emirates - without this book a visitor could miss out on many of the delights offered in this part of the world. Since shopping is a major pastime in Dubai this section of the guide is an excellent timesaving guide to the malls and the extensive range of goods to buy.
Extensive index and the simple, practical layout of the guide make it easy to use. The aerial maps at the back of the book are stunning ! Dubai is a rapidly developing place and a current guide is essential - as an expat myself I always buy the new edition of Explorer and refer to it almost daily. Much more up-to-date information than many other guidebooks - thoroughly recommended for expats and visitors !

Letter from Benjamin Hatcher.......2004-11-27
Benjamin Hatcher of Boston writes a long letter describing his participation in the Boston Tea Party, to William Yancy of South Carolina, June 18, 1774. Everything seems authentic, with nice illustrations.
In fine detail, the story of the Boston Tea Party is a bit different than what we know today as the legend, but the essentials are the same: the colonists boarded three British ships and threw the crates of tea overboard, due to a tax on tea which they objected to.
Benjamin Hatcher is a seller of tea and makes it clear why he opposes the tax: people can't afford it. There's a black market in tea imported from other sources, while the Tea Party is going on.
Interesting and well written.
Diximus.

Nice option.......2000-05-03
Good book. This is for someone like me, who loves standard information about design. Nice diagramation and the way information is presented. A book for a constant reading. Look forward the "In your face" book. Another good option. If you're looking for a book without edges, you'll find "On the Edge", an excellent option.

5 Plus Stars!.......2003-07-15
In searching for a good "layman's" book on Feng Shui, I came accross this gem. Many other books on the subject were a little too scientific for my needs. This is a great introduction for a beginner.
I also happen to be an avid cat lover, and think the theme of this book is wonderful! The ideas conveyed in this book about a cat being the perfect "purrveyor" (pun intended) of balance and energy is extremely intriguing.
Along with informative and insightful content, the pictures add a beautiful element. This is a new favorite book on my bookshelf, and I would definitely recommend it to any cat lover who is interested in learning about Feng Shui.
Basic Feng Shui for cat lovers.......2003-06-26
I quite enjoyed this book, even though some readers will be more familiar with Feng Shui than the writer assumes. It includes the basic fundamentals of Feng Shui with observation of your kitty for better attunement to the flow of energy. You don't even necessarily need to think of your cat as a "familiar" to find this book helpful. If you believe that your animals are better in tune to Earth's energy than you are, than you can definitely use this book for more insight into Feng Shui and your beloved cat!
Sam & Stella loved it!.......2000-03-25
They are the cats of the house! and it is all about their favorite places to be...even if it means on top of my head! The book was great to read, gave us great ideas, and made us purrrrrr at the pictures! I had never thought about the fact that the kitties like to be in certain places in the house (ie their kitty bed, their litter box, and where they eat), and this taught me something new about them!

Book Description

Outside of metropolitan New York, listings are arranged by town. Helpful appendices for each section list dealers by specialty -from Art Deco furniture to vintage clothing- and by special services such as furniture restoration, repair, appraisal, or authentication. A general, alphabetical index is also included at the end of the book. Experienced antique collectors John and Barbara Michel offer readers the inside track on the hundreds of dealers in New York. If you love antiques, or even if you're just looking for that genuine nineteenth-century top hat, you'll find the answers in Antiquing New York.

Book Description
The most comprehensive sourcebook of Shakespeare's monologues ever available in one volume.
A detailed guide to approaching Shakespearean text, Speak the Speech! contains everything an actor needs to select and prepare a Shakespeare monologue for classwork, auditions, or performance.
Included herein are over 150 monologues. Each one is placed in context with a brief introduction, is carefully punctuated in the manner that best illustrates its meaning, and is painstakingly and thoroughly annotated. Each is also accompanied by commentary that will spark the actor's imagination by exploring how the interrelationship of meter and the choice of words and sounds yields clues to character and performance. And throughout the book sidebars relate historical, topical, technical, and other useful and entertaining information relevant to the text. In addition, the authors include an overview of poetic and rhetorical elements, brief synopses of all the plays, and a comprehensive index along with other guidelines that will help readers locate the perfect monologue for their needs.
More than just an actor's toolkit, Speak the Speech! is also an entertaining resource that will help demystify Shakespeare's language for the student and theater lover alike.
Customer Reviews:
So much help..........2007-02-13
This book has been so helpful in my auditioning process. THANK YOU FOR PUBLISHING THIS!!
Unbelievably useful and clear........2007-01-21
As a young actor currently studying Shakespeare in an acting conservatory, this book perfectly compliments the tools I am being taught.
It is full of information written in a clear, efficient manner and is never patronizing to the reader. The tone has a lighteness and joy that invites the actor into the world of classical text and removes any stodgy stereotypes that may surround the poet's work.
I recommend this book to any actor who is looking for some less performed Shakespeare monologues and comes equipped with an incredibley useful guide to understanding the plays themselves, as well as what is going on specifically with each monologue.
I would buy it as a gift for all of my acting friends.
Bravo to the authors.
simply the best.......2006-07-02
Simply the best book ever to analyze Shakespeare's monologues: incisive, illuminating, deeply intelligent, always entertaining and sometimes brilliant. Experienced actors as well as those new to the craft will find this immeasurably helpful, and they will have plenty of company. Anyone who appreciates Shakespeare's words and work will find this wonderful book an oasis in a literary desert too often filled with mirages.
Great help for even a layman to understand Shakespeare.......2003-05-11
As a nonactor I'm in the midst of reading this book. Now for the first time I'm completely grasping the prose and verse. In the past I've tried to read Shakespeare cold, with no help, and as a modern English speaker you can pick up some things yes, but this book makes it all, and I mean all clear. We get well over 100 of his greatest monologues, and every unfamiliar word is fully explained, as well as multiple interpretations of the lines.
I recommend this book to students, actors, writers, and layman for it will unleash the magic of the verse. And when it does you can read or see a performance and grasp it all...and there is so much to grasp, and a good play requires a good reader, a good performance, a good audience, and this book will make you one.
How An Actor Prepares.......2002-11-14
Learn the Speech! Actors need tools for their acting toolkit and not a day goes by here at my Writers & Performers Garage in Los Angeles that I don't mention this great new tool. With over 150 monologues, it's an essential for actor preparation. I can't think of any recent book I've read that is more useful for actors working seriously at their craft.
