Book Description
An Instant Guide to Trees is an ideal compact identification guide to trees commonly seen in gardens, parks, and in the countryside.
This user-friendly guide assumes no previous knowledge: an easy-to-follow system of color-coded bands and symbols (denoting different leaf shapes) leads quickly to the correct section of the book. Detailed, full-color illustrations of leaves, shape of tree, fruit and flowers, plus a concise but informative text, make it easy to identify positively nearly 200 trees found in North America. "Lookalike" panels help prevent confusion between trees of similar appearance.
Customer Reviews:
An OK Book On Tree Identification.......2007-10-02
This book is not very informative and the pictures of leaves are all illustrations. It is also not a very well organized book, but it is cheap, so it is worth the money. Since you can identify leaves by their shape this book is useful even though the leaves in the book are not quite like the leaves on the actual trees. We have still been able to use this book to identify about 3/4th of the trees we have on our property. We own 43 acres of woods.lol I would say that if you are ok with a no frills book without to much info and you want a book cheap, then this is a good book to buy.
Instant Guide to Trees.......2007-06-01
My sister works in the garden department of Home Depot and she wanted a book to help her identify trees. She found this book extremely helpful.
Instant Guide to Trees.......2006-06-25
Real good drawings of tree leaves, needles and buds. Not any information on tree height (feet), bark or soil conpatibality. Good for beginners.
An Instant Guide to Trees.......2006-05-04
When I got my book in the mail my face instantly went pale. It was not what I had hoped for, though my third grader will love it . The drawings/graphics are well done, but rarely any size data (how big is the leaf you're looking at for example) and not a single scientific name in sight. I think adults will tire of the book easily for there's not enough detailed infromation. If you have ever tried to distinguish a black oak from a red oak this book is not for you. At last, for $3.99 it's a good deal for your kids.
Excellent Handy Tree Identification Guide.......2005-10-07
This book was better than two other far more expensive books on tree identification that I recently purchased from Amazon.com. Excellent color graphics and a section to distinguish between/among other trees with similar leaves. One shortcoming is that the entire tree(s)were only identified with shadow outlines instead of using the same color graphics that distinguished the identification of leaves/needles/berries, etc. Another would be the absence of an outline map of the US showing where the trees are found. Instead, there's a written description of the regions.
Book Description
Land of the world's largest prairie chicken, birthplace of Spam, and home of the world's oldest rock, this is Minnesota, where summers are short, winters are long, and back-road wonders abound. This entertaining guide wastes no time with descriptions of scenic lakes, pristine bike trails, or quaint cafés. Instead it directs travelers (and residents) to the spot where Tiny Tim strummed his last notes on the ukulele; to the Cold Spring chapel where two grasshoppers bow down to the Virgin Mary; and to the McLeod County Museum, where the mummy on display could be from Peru or outer space. While ordinary tourists are fighting off mosquitoes in the Boundary Waters, oddball travelers can size up the world's largest ear of corn and admire the fourth Zamboni ever built. And one last thing: there aren't 10,000 lakes in Minnesota; there are 14,215. For travelers who are in search of the unusual, there is no better reason to park the bike and hiking boots in the garage, fill up the gas tank, and hit the road to Minnesota, where weirdness awaits.

Product Description
Book Description
This book is an ambitious work that surveys the development of a major sculptural medium in Italy across four centuries. It is the first work of its kind to consider the varieties of fired clay sculpture, especially in the context of the sculptural process. Whenever possible, clay models have been juxtaposed with finished works in order to show changes between a sculptor's initial concept and the final product. Over eighty objects are considered, ranging from drawings and sketch models to enamelled terracottas and marbles. The entries are supplemented by a series of essays, addressing major aspects of clay sculpture from the Renaissance to Neo-classicism; there is also a survey of recent information gleaned from the conservation of terracotta sculpture.

Tiny & Terrific!.......2005-06-03
I am researching all I can for an upcoming Poodle purchase. I picked this book up at a store, and was pleasantly surprised when I came home and read it. It's small, only 80 pages, but I thought the information included in those pages was outstanding. I was really surprised. Good job, Dr. Fogle.
Great book!!.......2001-07-05
I am not a Poodle owner but I am looking to purchase my first one with in the next couple of weeks as a birthday present to myself. This book is short but there is a good amount of informatoin in it....
Dog Breed Handbook, Poodle.......2001-01-17
I bought this book based on the reviews already listed. When I received it I was extremely disappointed. I found this book to be very inaccurate. Its statements based on color and size were complete opposite of my exprience and that of my family. I also found it to be inadequate in breaking down general appearance and grooming of the poodle. I have found many books far better than this one.
Great for the Beginner.......2000-01-25
Great starting place on Poodles. Good job on temperment. Only book I've seen that gives varying temperment info for the different color of poodles.

Book Description
1893. Volume II of II. This volume of the Catalogue of English Coins in the British Museum contains descriptions of the Coins of Wessex from Ecgbeorht to Eadwig, and of those of All England from Eadgar to the Norman Conquest. Taken in conjunction with the first volume, which dealt with the coinages of Mercia, Kent, East Anglia, and Northumbria, it completes the description of all the Anglo-Saxon Coins in the National Collection. In the lists of moneyers given in the first volume the names of those not represented in the National Collection were inserted. In the present volume this scheme has been further extended by including all known types of Coins, whether or not represented in the Museum series. The names of moneyers and the descriptions of the types of Coins not in the Museum are printed in italics. As the Coins in the volume are all Silver Pennies (unless otherwise described), the weight only of each piece is given, and not the size or metal. This volume has been compiled by Grueber, Assistant Keeper of Coins and by Keary, the author of the first volume. See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing. Volume 1 ISBN 0766196224.
Customer Reviews:
buy another guide :-(.......2003-06-24
This garden book fails in many ways. As an illustrated guide, it fails miserably. The pictures are small, blurry, sometimes over-exposed and most are not representative of the subject. Worse is the fact that most plants are not even illustrated! You are left wondering what a plant really looks like. I have had to research most of the plants mentioned via internet or leafing through other books.
Another fault is the hardiness zones of some plants are incorrect. The authors need to redo this information. My particular pet peeve is the mention of plant pathogens-- they give a list of plant ailments, but do not tell you how to prevent, or treat it.
I gave it only two stars because of all these faults. It is an expensive book, but definitely not worth the price. Look elsewhere.
Disappointing pictures.......2000-06-03
This book was ordered as a house gift for my hosts in CoralGables. The magnificent trees that line their street are notidentifiable among the many ficuses listed. Tree photographs were either a detail of foliage or in total without any quality of detail but not both ways, making it difficult to identify anything already not familiar. The 48 different palms were photographed incompletely and it was difficult even to spot the royal palm by its light, magnificent trunk. For the most part artist illustrations would be preferrable to these photographic limitations.
I give it 2 stars only because of the succinct information on the plant descriptions. It would also have been better if the illustrations had not been isolated in the middle of the book ...
This is my favorite book for plant selection........1999-06-10
This book is wonderful for anyone landscaping in Florida. Plants are listed by scientific name, but there's a cross reference to common names in the back. It will help you choose appropriate plants based on light requirements, drought tolerance, climactic zones, etc. My favorite part is that it lists human hazards for every plant (most have no hazard, but it will tell you if the plant has thorns, toxic flowers, is a mild irritant etc.). This is invaluable when you have young children helping in the yard. Betrocks other guides are nice and have lots of pictures, but this one is much more extensive.

Skilled dialogue drama which does not overpower.......2007-03-29
This is a fast- paced little drama in hard- hitting colloquial language. Two characters a university teacher and his student are the whole action. It begins with the girl student petitioning for a passing grade, but in time becomes complicated by her charging the teacher with harassment. As their dialogue is going on the teacher is also having to deal with the purchase of a house, and family problems. Both teacher and student feel failures but somehow the common element of their situation does not bring them to sympathetic understanding and conclusion.
Obviously this is a look at the new 'politically correct' ethic which has infested much of campus discourse and life.
I found it an interesting exercise. But it somehow did not move me on a very deep level.
Oleanna - Mean and Frustrating.......2006-12-23
"Oleanna" was a very, very frustrating read for me. First of all, a lot of it probably has to do with the fact that it is meant to be seen and heard, not read. Nonetheless, I'm convinced that a lot of the frustration is intentional. Everything the characters say is mixed up, incompleted, and confusing. The author, or playwright, Mamet, seems to have a very condescending opinion, almost disgust, for the English language. The confusion and misunderstanding is written in a way that makes our language appear almost pointless. I can't help but thinking to myself that anything can be put in a bad light, and shown to be a source of evil and violence, but why make a point of it (at least when its fundamentally unchangeable, like our basic language)? From my reading, I took the conclusion of the story to be something like "Language is futile, and fails us when we need it most." Of all the things I've read in my college literature course, "Oleanna" has been the only thing to leave a distinctly sour taste in my mouth.
Perhaps I'm missing the beauty of the writing, or the composition, or something... but overall this seemed to be a very mean spirited and ultimately pointless read.
Mainzerjacob got it right!.......2006-09-08
Although this play has often been characterized as a critique of "political correctness" gone insane, coming as it does on the heels of the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings, the earlier reviewer got it right. Read the epigraph! This is a play that rewards multiple readings and is worthy of a place in the curriculum of a college English class. One thing is certain: it will inspire class discussion!
Oleanna Rocks!.......2006-06-15
I loved this book/play too. We were required to read it for my Comp 2 class, but I was glad we were. It is very easy reading and DOES make one wonder what side they are actually on. The point we focused on most was that even if the teacher wasn't what they were making him out to be that he eventually became that person because that's what everyone believed him to be. Kind of like the theory if you tell a kid he's bad, even if he isn't he'll eventually become what you make him out to be because there's no point in being any different if people won't/don't accept that you're not who they make you out to be. I liked it so much I even borrowed the video from the library. William H. Macey was awesome playing the part of the teacher, you could just feel the tension between the two characters. If you buy this book and like it I suggest you buy the video too if you can, it's worth the money.
"Tenure Turns Tragic".......2005-07-10
The imagery of focused academia and the discontinuity of John and Carol's conversation can be defined as a constant stop n' go. You find yourself wondering if the structure of "Oleanna" will transform a change of pattern from interupted dialog to a free flowing comprehensible conversation. You want to talk irritating-its all here. John the ostentatious Professor is developed into this pompous character and Mamet creates a twisted tone of pathetic sympathy hitched with misappropriated authority. Will John's foolish indoctrination jeopardize his tenure? If you can get through the continuation of interrupted dialog - lots of credit to you!
