I do not feel this book is as easy to access as a take along travel guide as I would have hoped. All the information is included, but in an "at a glance" fashion.

Very comprehensive list of train possibilities from every location. Not as much boat information. Not really useful for trip tourists, but maybe if you were going over for 6 months or longer to work there. Doesn't really include information on why you'd want to go to certain locations (hiking/food/castle/etc).

This book is a great resource for those planning a rail journey of Switzerland. There are country maps, region maps, and city maps. Every inch of railroad is covered in this book. The bus and boat coverage is less thorough however. The author does tell you where you can catch some of the more important Post bus routes. The author has also included links to the tourism websites of many of the cites mentioned. Most Swiss tourism websites are full of excellent information. Many smaller, off the beaten track towns are listed as well. Some hotel information is also included.

This book is mainly for those traveling by train or bus. It was not very helpful for traveling by auto although it did mention some things to see in planning routes.

We lived in Switzerland for two years and this was our bible - it covers every rail line and many postal and boat routes. It describes interesting sites all along the way so you can see that there is a Switzerland beyond Lucerne, the Bernese Oberland, Zurich, Gimmelwald and other standard tourist destinations. We found great out of the way museums, hikes etc from this book. I'm ordering the newest edition for my upcoming summer trip. We've worn our last edition out! This is a must if you travel by Swiss Pass and the fabulous Swiss train system.

I can't believe my eyes, this book is full of beautiful pictures, magic moments in the Blue Note studio with the jazz masters, all of them.
Not to talk about the price, what's 20 bucks for a book like this? it's worth so much more. A huge book in every aspect. I've got just one word: INCREDIBLE. Buy it.

Beautiful.......2000-01-01

Yes, there IS a calendar version of this book but the calendar just scratches the surface of this collection.

I intitially borrowed this book while looking for reference images for a video project. It became obvious to me in a very short time that I would HAVE to purchase this book. Even though I am a professional photographer and filmmaker, there are very few photography books I am willing to spend my money on. There are many I like but few I wish to own. This book, like all of the photo books I've purchased, moved me in a powerful way. These are beautifully executed, intimate black and white portraits. Most of the photographs are spontaneous and shot during recording rehearsals. Several of the images graced the covers and sleeves of the records produced by the jazz record label, Blue Note.

Francis Wolff was not just Blue Note's primary photographer (and quite talented), he was also the label's co-founder. His already skillful eye was that much more in tune (no pun intended) with his subjects and sensitive to the working environment. He was able to capture subtle moments few likely could. Most images are illuminated by a single light source, spotlighting the artists and capturing them in moments of thought, exhilaration, playfulness and intensity.

Seeing greats like Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, a young Herbie Hancock and Hank Mobley in these intimate moments early in their careers is powerful. The design is outstanding and the printing if these photographs is impressive. This is a must have book for the music lover, photographer, or photography lover. If you don't fit into one of the above catagories, don't sweat it. You will love this book simply because it is beautiful.

Good, insightfull text, great photographs, oustanding print quality: a must have for all lovers of jazz, jazz musicians and photography. The photographer's empathy for his subject(s) just oozes from the pages of this wonderful book. There's a picture there of a dreamy John Coltrane, that just totally catches the sensitivity, the intelligence, the emotionality of a great musician and a great human being! A must buy !

For all the Jazz Lovers, this is a beautiful photographic collection of all the greatest musicians of this trade; moreover, it's the look from an 'insider' to get a glimpse of almost intimacy with the artists at work. Excellent quality, both photographic and 'sentimental': recommended!

Great Photos, Lousy Binding.......2005-11-09

The book features stunning examples of classic photos of some of my favorite jazz artists by Francis Wolff including some I hadn't seen elsewhere. However, the cover seemed cheap/flimsy. In fact the cover separated from the pages in transit. Even at this price, I'd shy away from this one in favor of the more expensive hard cover unless you're planning on cutting out the photos any way.

This is the finest collection of Jazz Photography ever assembled! If you're a fan of jazz, or Blue Note Records, you must own this book. As a co-owner of Blue Note, Francis Wolff had the opportunity to arrest time with his lens while the titans of jazz created quintessential music. All the faces you would expect are here, Thelonious Monk, Miles, Coltrane, etc. Yet so are others whose names have been unfairly excluded from the roster of jazz immortals, men like Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark, Lee Morgan and many more. This collection is tastefully assembled, carefully balancing a trove of color and black & white prints with aesthetic perfection. Its 176 pages are bursting with images that inebriate the eyes; many are published here for the first time. Along the way, written snapshots built on the visual perspective. You can hear the music pouring from these images. You can feel the excitement of it's genesis. The musicians were comfortable with Wolff and his lens. He captured their essence in a way that no other could. Pick this up before it goes out of print.

Phantastic photography!.......2000-10-20

Even if you haven't heard the name Francis Wolff before you have probably seen many of his photos already. They can be found on many Blue Note albums. Some of them also became classics on their own. Francis Wolff is the co-founder of the Blue Note record label. Before becoming a full-time producer by the end of the Sixties, he spent a lot of his time taking photos of the artists while they were recording. All these photos are taken with a sort of simple equipment (just a camera and one flash) without posing. The photos were taken while the musicians were playing or composing of resting. There is an enormous depth and clarity in the pictures and you can nearly sense the personalities of the musicians. This collection of Wolff's photography is a must for every fan of classical photography and, of course, it's a must for die-hard Blue Note fans.

Interesting read of forgotten Chinese reformer.......2003-12-04

Interesting book of a man who attempted to build a socialist Chinese state instead of a despotic one. Caught in the middle of warlords and would-be emperors, however, his project never really had a chance of success, but serves as a sad illustration of what could have been.

Also, Guy Alitto, the author, looks like some kind of cross between the Pringles guy and the Monopoly guy.

This book is very easy reading, with a lot of pictures and charts, and doesn't bore you with pages upon pages on text. It traces the history of the DJIA, showing what was happening in the world when the Dow hit certain benchmarks, and provides a "Readers Digest" version of market trends, biographical profiles, and cycles in the Dow. A great coffee table book.

I had to use this book for an online course while earning my bachelor's degree. This book was horrible. This group of 3 authors did not do a good job. The ideas and points did not run smoothly together from one point to another. It seems like the 3 authors did not work very close together to make sure their ideas connected and related directly with each other's ideas. It was as if the authors went from talking about point A, skipping all the way to point F, then going to point C, then back to point F, etc. etc. Their ideas did not flow in an understandable sequence. I also agree about the examples. The examples were no help and they were not thorough examples of material that you would run into the real-world. The examples needed much more details in them.

Huge waste of money.......2007-07-06

Horngren makes a notoriously dry subject even worse. It is filled with long winded verse and practically devoid of dynamic examples. Accounting is something that 'works' and can be worked out. It's best learned when applied to real world situations...this book aims to have you memorize boring definitions and then support those definitions with scarce examples. Even our professor said he's been lobbying to get this book out of my school's curriculum...too bad that didn't happen BEFORE I came along.

I have had experience with accounting and found this book to be fairly basic. However, if you are a beginner with no knowledge of accounting, this is a good textbook. I read one of the other reviews about how there is a bunch of useless junk on each page and while this is partially true, it would be UNBEARABLE to read if there wasn't this so called "junk" on every page. Overall a good textbook that I will keep around as a reference for accounting basics.

Though the styles are a bit dated, this book is a well-designed introduction to making functional garments in crochet. If you're interested in moving from making flat pieces to clothing, this is a good introductory book.

Lovely designs but very conservative.......2007-06-13

My rating is not about saying that this book doesn't show the designer to be incredibly skilled and inventive. It does. But on receiving the book I found that, for me, none of the designs grab me and I found them all way too conservative for my tastes, which I admit, run to the wild and wacky.

I have suffered from PAS (Pattern Aquicision Syndrom) for many years,but this is the best pattern book I have found in years. I have finished one sweater and am now making a vest and I am shopping for linen to make slacks to match. I am happy, happy, happy.

This was a very helpful book. I am an absolute beginner at crochet and I found the directions extremely clear. There is even a little "how to" section in the back of the book which illustrates the stiches used. I was even able to tackle those patterns maked for intermediate crocheters. The sweaters were attractive and there were just 2 or 3 sweaters in the book that I found rather dull.

A very nice selection of pullovers, cardigan, vests. It's nice to see the sizing go from small to XL (some 50-52" +). The yarns used are easily obtained but the author gives enough info for you to sub something else. Easy to follow instructions and diagrams with photos that clearly show the garment rather than how artfully it can be draped over a chair as some books do.

This work is of monumental significance in shaping our perception that reclaiming our heritage is not limited to sterile buildings but living things as well.

While world attention is rightfully focused on preserving intact the rain forest, this work demonstrates that we need to reclaim those centuries old living islands that have somehow persevered and relay to us today, the vivacious aspirations of their creators.

This is not just a book about a garden but about the people who made it and the people who rediscovered and rescued it.

I eagerly look forward to the author's next endeavor in this area. It is a rare individual who is able to pull together all the disparate disciplines such a work entails, and to present them in such a thoroughly enjoyable manner.
