A story for the ages .......2005-12-12

This story of a tiny Torah scroll that survives the Nazis to accompany Ilan Ramon on the doomed Columbia mission is one that all children, especially Jewish children should hear. The themes of hope and promise are universal. There are true heros in this world and Rabbi Dasberg (z"l) and Ilan Ramon (z"l) are two of them.

Michael Jennings has written this book in a way even the novice can understand. From Pet owner to the serious fanciers, it is full of information that you will want to have in your library. This second book in a series can compel even the pet owner to want to raise their loving Siberian and know all it's history.

From the beginnings to the present, each chapter has something for everyone. Being a serious fancier myself, I have found this book to be very informative, yet easy to read and understand.

Kudos to Michael for another well written book.

"The New Complete Siberian Husky," by Michael Jennings, is a must for all potential and current Sibe owners. It touches on a variety of subjects- history of the breed, the breed standard, famous husky kennels, as well as the care of the Siberian Husky, training, breeding, and all other vital subjects. Lots of photos, especially of past Siberians who were very valuable to the breed's beginnings. Many of these dogs can be traced on your own Siberian's pedigree. The book also contains the REAL story about Balto and Togo, quite a bit different than the movie...

A fine resource for all Sibe owners or those considering........1997-08-22

Heavy emphasis on background & breeders of Sibes Each dog breed needs a similar book that fills the dog owner with pride and convinces him(her) that they have selected the quintessential dog to own. It also is valuable in pointing out some of the unique problems of the animal i.e. wanderlust, digging, behavioral quirks difficulty training as well as the endearing features of the breed. Perhaps too much time is placed on the "begots". It introduces you to the major "players" breeders of Sibes and has an excellent chapter on the breed standards. The numerous photos are somewhat repititious since all good Sibes are beautiful and it is hard to see the subtlties in black and white when talking about copper and other hues. Spins a great narrative about the "serum run" and the legendary "Togo" which I have made into a children's story which is loved by my grandchildren.

I feel this book is an excellent resource for an persons desiring to learn about wildflower biology and, also those wishing to incorporate wildflowers into the perennial garden. While directed toward plants of the eastern, southern, and midwestern regions, most anyone would find this book useful. Useful suggestions are also provide regarding establishment of wildflower gardens.

This is a practical guide to propagating native plants. It is specific to the U.S. southeast to mid-atlantic regions. I have had pretty good results & the directions are very specific. I recommend it for beginners or seasoned gardeners.

Regional Wild Perennials.......2000-10-16

This looks like an excellent guide to seed collection and propagation. However it is highly specific to the southeast and I am looking for the high desert in Oregon. I could glean some information on mallows and yarrow, but although penstamons were mentioned they weren't discussed. I think a general recommendation for this type of book is to highlight the region that it covers.

The Vatican Library's Vaticanus Latinus collection is one of its largest holdings. The majority of the codices between the shelf numbers 3000 and 9000 remain as yet to be cataloged according to modern standards. Professor Girard Etzkorn has cataloged over one hundred of these manuscripts, selecting principally those pertaining to Franciscan authors and Franciscan history between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. He has successfully identified the authors of many treatises and sometimes entire works which were hitherto `anonymous'. While the Iter Vaticanum Franciscanum focuses principally on manuscripts dealing with philosophy and theology, there are also codices which transmit texts on medieval astronomy, medicine, Canon Law, as well as numerous sermons, many of which have until now been unknown. The format of this catalog comprises three (sometimes four) categories: 1) the description, 2) a list of published editions, 3) annotations of historical, biographical or bibliographical importance noted in the codex and 4) a bibliography of `post-medieval' books and articles about the codex and/or its contents.

This book is beautiful. It is a very helpful reference and it is just fun to look at. It was also great to have the description of each of the outfits. This book is much more detailed than the "80 Godey's Full-Color Fashion Plates (1838-1880)" by JoAnne Olian, but then I liked all the full -colored as well.

Godey's A guide book to Civil War Fashion.......2000-07-31

This is an excellent reference guide for Lady Civil War Reenactors who want to create beautiful day dresses and ball gowns. The book has detailed descriptions of each dress. A true Godey's dress was for the lady of wealth, however many women of average means subscribed to Godey's to get ideas for the dresses they wore. Each page will give you an idea of colors, styles and types of fabrics used. This book is a must along with "Who Wore What" for a true insight into women's fashions of the 1860's

I thought the story was well written........1998-05-13

I thought the book looked interesting, and it was. Many of the parts in the book show the hardships of many Chinese that did not agree with the communist views. Han, although a spy, was also a teacher by occupation. My theory is that the political unrest that took place in China was a holocaust, very much like the holocaust during WWII, where the slaying of millions of Jews took place. Many of you don't agree with me, but that is my personal opinion. I don't think that what Han did was wrong, at any point in time, especially when it said he was standing up for his own political views. I recommend this book to anyone studying CHina's cultural revolution and political history.
