I have several of Blackwell's wildflower guidebooks, and I have found them very useful in helping me identify flowers.

The only complaint I have about this book is that the printing seems a bit dark and muddy.

Great For Death Valley Too!.......2006-08-14

This book provides outstanding coverage of plants of the Great Basin. My interest is primarily the Death Valley area and this book is very relevant to the parts of Death Valley above 4000 feet in altitude which is actually a very large portion of Death Valley National Park. This book fills in the missing plants that aren't covered in other books about Death Valley plants and Mojave Desert plants. For instance, a plant I found on Telescope Peak (elevation 11,027) a few weeks ago was not listed in nine other plant books covering the area, but it was covered in this book! (The plant was Heuchera rubescens.) So, if you're into Death Valley plants and you want a book to help out with those high altitude specimens that get overlooked in other books, then this book is just what you need!

Finally! A guide specifically for the Great Basin........2006-08-03

Having worked at Great Basin National Park without access to a flower guide solely for the Great Basin, this book provides a much needed resource. Prior to the guide book's release, one had to rely on guides from the Rockies and the Sierras. While there was overlap from both, there were also many gaps. Great Basin Wildflowers fills those gaps, and it does so with an easy to use approach. Flowers are grouped by color, making it easy to find what you're looking for, and the pictures are detailed enough to make confirmation of the plant. I only wish I had this guide a year ago.

I have the 5th Edition of this book, but, this can only be better I hope.

It is a very personal review of the states and what they have to offer and as opposed to other books that are just boring and incomprehensible listings of attractions and dining and lodging .
I actually went to some of the dining and hidden attraction recommendations from this book and it didn't fail me. All those places were certainly what the book said they would be or maybe more than that.

The only drawback i can see is that there wasnt any mention of good campgrounds that car-campers could easily refer to. But for that, you can look up "the best in tent camping".

Good Luck with your trips. I know mine was a great success.

5 stars...but not for this edition.......2006-11-13

The book is fabulous for all readers--5 stars are not enough-- yet you would be better served to seek the original hardcover. Its charming author sketches here are seen without detail-- almost blob-like in comparison on cheaper paper-- presumably to make this an affordable text resource for many design courses embracing Stumpf's philosophy. The price of fame...a not-too-civil service to either his high design standards or any readers who would appreciate original renderings. Sadly, the superb story-spinner author himself "melted away" this summer after enhancing so many of our lives!

Good Design Plays Here.......2006-09-23

A book on how we might live better and gain more enjoyment from life if we had more civil perspective in design. Many personal stories serve as background to the issues of good and bad design and how we interact with and use what we build. This quote from page 78 might sum up the definition of questionable design, "The sign at the exit ramp said REST STOP/NO FACILITIES,..."

Great book even if your not a designer.......2001-09-07

This book doesn't discuss the "how's" of design, but rather the "why's". A question I'm always asking. He inspires the designer to restore quality to life using our best ammunition, Design. My favorite chapter was on his fight for the plain old brown bag. Why should we be a walking advertisement everytime we carry a bag? (or wear a t-shirt?) He entreats designers to recognize the social power they have and to respect that power. A great book!

i got it by a complete eccident, a girl left it in the locker after quiting school and i got to have that locker after she left. who knows that somone in the world shared the same fantasies i had and could manifest them into reality in such a versetile humerous and interesting way?! my knowladge of erotic photgraphy to that point was mostly my dad's playboys collection, but this was nothing of the sort.

eric kroll's a profational photographer and though he choose to deal with the issues of sex, fetish and control, the mages themselfs are done proffetionaly with much care to detales scenery and so on, which is very importent to me when creating an erotic scene. he's very versatile and i can't say even now after years of going through those photos what he's spasifcly into, it seems that he like just about anything and doesn't focuse on either one type of fantasy \ body part or certion type of model, however somthing about the lighting, styling and pose can still be recognised as his own personal style.

thechen's a quality art books publisher, so printing, design and binding are very good.

i've had this book for over 7 years and it's still interesting and stimulation to look at.

One of the few well known American fetish photographers has put out a book of splendor. The imagery is wonderful and the women are masterfully depicted in the fetishs and their beauty. Certainly a pleasure to veiw and to own.

What a strange little book indeed and I gave it 5 stars, not because I thought it was great, or got me to where I wanted to go but, because it was written for the reader that is into the rubber thing .... I must add this is a deviation from the Blue Moon regular fare that tends to steer towards the S&M, spank, dominationa and discipline type of fare .....

Ursula, a 27 year old beauty has a strong urges for latex (OK so I called it rubber, shows what I know) ever since she got a glimpse of her father having a shower while wearing a snug black latex shower cap. Without going into the little girls and their fathers thing, something snapped (forgive the latex visualization here) in Ursula and she was hooked into finding men wearing latex on the beaches.

The story then starts with Ursula meeting latex clad Adrian (of course) and his very young gay lover at a motel pool, and, certainly it doesn't take long for Ursula to be in their room sucking in more than one or two of the ice cold martinis that were being enjoyed by our happy threeesome. I kind of like that cause the martinis gave the book a grown up 'sauvoi faire' mood.

What makes this fetish book stand swim caps above the crowd is that there is a small story here as all the characters struggle with their homosexuality and love of latex, and, I might add enough of a story that I did manage to finish the book ..... now what in the world did I do with that latex swim cap cause I've gotta stop writing this review and get the the beach ....

A TRUE WIZARD OF THE DIGITAL FORMAT.......2007-10-07

Having tried my hand at digital art with Photoshop, I have to say that I really...REALLY admire the hell out of artists who work well with it. OK..I'm no trained artist but I'm still mesmerized by the technique when someone can master it. One of those who has truly mastered digital art is Bruce Colero. SQP has just released Heavenly Bodies: The Art of Bruce Colero. It's my first time seeing his art and I was absolutely blown away. Digital truly requires a whole different approach than traditional artwork. The enhancements of light, shadow, and the use of color is so integral to digital art. Bad technique stands out like a sore thumb while masterful technique is dazzling.

This 48 page collection is full color and shows off Colero's vast talent with the female form. The themes range from fantasy, to Sci-Fi, to horror and to comic books, each page featuring Colero's dynamic artwork. One painting that strikes you right off the bat is "And Lead us into..." This piece shows off a striking female demon, nude but with flames swirling about her body in all the strategic places. Now you really have to pay attention to the flames here. I don't think I've ever seen flames in a piece of art look as real as they do in this painting. The coloring, the shape...you can almost see the flames moving around her body. It's a brilliant piece of art!

Another magnificent example is "Rio" showing a nude blond, with her back to the viewer, wading into knee-high water on a beach as the sun sets in the background. The coloring and shading is just unbelievable. You look at how the sun reflects off the water's gentle ripples and you wonder how Colero manages to be so precise and so accurate in his rendering of this paradise. The female form has rarely looks this good, even if it is a bit exaggerated in its perfection.

Highlighting the book for me is the inclusion of several well known subjects such as Lady Death, Vampirella, Elektra, and The Black Cat. The Black Cat is perhaps my favorite piece in the entire book. She sits crouched upon a building's ledge, contemplating her next move but poised for action. This is one piece of art that would like great on your wall. "Heavenly Bodies" is a collection that any fan of pin-up or glamour art should own. SQP has delivered another outstanding art collection!

Colero's "Heavenly Bodies" are exactly that: Beautiful fantasy art reminiscent of the golden age of Borris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta - yet with a modern and fresh perspective coupled with contemporary pin-up and sci-fi themes. The beauty of the female form and her strength are celebrated throughout the pages of this illustrated collection of works. I highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates artwork, surreal fantasy, and particularly those with an affinity for beautiful women.

where are the good photos?.......2001-08-11

i didn't like this book because defining in some pictures weren't that good i expected them to be from some other pictures of eric kroll and cover of the book. inside the expressions of the girls weren't so "happy and joyful" they didn't fit in the mood that pictures tried to express.

Fetish Girls Revisited........2001-05-09

After his success with "Fetish Girls," Eric Kroll found himself in a new position. Previously he had thought of himself as a photographer who forever pushed the boundaries of art photography's subject matter. Unexpectedly, he found himself sharing the limelight with other `fringe' photographers such as Cindy Sherman, Nan Golden and Richard Kern. These and many others had also been waiting for taboos to come down. No sooner did Kroll become popular for being avant-garde then he found his work being accepted as mainstream.

Fortunately for us, Kroll did not decide to rest on his laurels. During the next few years he remained active. Gradually, Kroll pulled away from `fashion' fetish work and started to work harder at exploring the sexual nature of the fetishist's urges and dreams. Behind the allure of his models lay a rawer, stronger layer of desire. Now the viewer often must question his or her own sexuality and fantasy.

From this quest arose the work that went into "Beauty Parade," which is a natural extension and outgrowth of "Fetish Girls." Not only has Kroll's work become more refined and controlled, it also shows development at the technical level. His focus seems sharper and his graphic sense strong, but he has also gained a fine sense of tension and movement. This enhances the impact of many of the already strong images.

Kroll flirts with pornography but never quite crosses the line. In fact, some of the most sexual images contain little nudity. This is not a volume for the easily shocked or overly judgmental. The fetish focus often creates overtones of sexual practice gone slightly awry. Kroll invites us to look into the darker beauties of human desire and make our own decisions about what is art, what is us, and what is not.

BEAUTY PARADE?.......2001-02-27

Well, with this title what should I expect? Beauties isn't?, but I think many readers like me would be dissapointed because there are many fetish picts, bizarre picts, women not so beauty as I tough, that's not a bad work, but that's not the promess of the cover, neither the promess of the title.

I dont like so much fetichism, so I think I did a bad election.

I think Mr. Kroll displays his amazing ability to capture every woman's beauty with imagination, style and eroticism. What I enjoyed most about Beauty Parade is his concentration on bringing out what the woman in the picture has seemingly always wanted express, but never did until Eric brought it out of her. It truly is a "coffee table" book and a conversation piece. Every time I look at it, I see things I didn't see the last time. I highly recommend this book!
