Who Is Baseball's Greatest Pitcher?
ASIN: 0805067337 |
Book Description
Filled with biographical anecdotes, batting stats and historical comparisons, here is the one book young fans can use to become instant experts in baseball's great debate.
Who is it: Babe Ruth? Ted Williams? Ty Cobb? Mark McGwire? or . . .?
Here is your one-stop resource for answering the question all baseball fans ask: Who is the best batter ever? You'll find thirty-two of baseball's greatest hitters, with each player's batting statistics, special achievements and records, along with interesting anecdotes and photographs.
With all this great information, Who Is Baseball's Greatest Hitter? is more than just a book of stats. Experienced sports writer Jeff Kisseloff gives young readers the tools to analyze, compare and contrast each player's career batting records. Unlike other baseball books, this one challenges the reader to make his own choices and add his own favorite batters to the debate.
Can you match the question on the left with the player on the right?
1) Who hit 755 home Runs? A) Mark McGwire
2) Who hit .367 lifetime? B) Hank Aaron
3) Who has the best home run/at bat ratio? C) Ty Cobb
And the big question, which statistic matters most?
Who Is Baseball's Greatest Hitter?
Answers: 1-B, 2-C, 3-A
Customer Reviews:
Stats may be suspect . . ........2006-04-18
With all due respect to Jeff Kisseloff and the previous reviewer, Hank Aaron didn't play for the Kansas City Clowns. He played for the Indianapolis Clowns. That contract was bought by the Braves and Aaron was sent to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to play for the Eau Claire Bears, a farm team for the Braves. That's a pretty basic stat - which leads me to wonder about some of the other "facts" in the book. Guess I'll either have to take it all with a grain of salt or double check Kisseloff's facts. Geez, what good is an editor?
Bic's Pick.......2000-06-16
Who is baseball's greatest hitter? Is it Ted Williams? Of all the players who hit more than 500 home runs he holds the lowest strike out ratio. Is it Mark McGwire? He hit 70 home runs in the 1998 regular season. Or could it be Ken Griffey Jr.? He's the youngest player ever to hit 350 home runs. And Mark McGwire and Ken Griffey are still playing. Who Is Baseball's Greatest Hitter? by Jeff Kisseloff is chockfull of player's stats and information on how to compare old time players to modern day players. This book is obviously a baseball book, so you have to like baseball to love it. I love baseball. I think the greatest hitter is either Ken Griffey or Barry Bonds because they are really good at hitting round trippers and 2 baggers. It's really easy to image one of them as baseball's greatest hitter. Who is baseball's greatest hitter?

Product Description
"In writing the history of St. James it is interesting to note that Vermont is peculiar in being the only one of the original communities which, as a state, was independent of both Great Britain and the United States, with towns chartered by a Churchman, with a reservation in each town so chartered for 'a Glebe for the Church of England as by law established,' and 'for the incorporated Society for the Propagation of the Gospel.' In that the Propagation lands remained in the possession of that Society, it is the only state a large part of whose territory has from the beginning been owned by an organization of the Anglican Church, and from which the wing of that Church has never been lifted." The chapters cover the topics: Early Charter; The Episcopate; Religious Life of Woodstock; Organization of the Parish; The First Building; Visitations of the Bishop; Diocesan Growth; Ladies Charitable Society; Later Years; and The Last Services. Appendices cover: a Letter from Dr. Jos. A. Gallup to Rev. Joel Clap; the Articles of Association, By-Laws, Signers of same and Consent of the Standing Committee; Lists of Officers; Statistics; and Resolutions adopted at the last service in the old church. THE STANDARD for Camera Collectors!.......2005-04-21
I cannot say it any better than the many other reviewers who have indicated that this is the "bible" of camera collecting references! Exhaustive references, historic information, pictures, auction selling prices, the "whole nine yards!"
The only camera reference book better than this one is Jim McKeown's next edition!
All Inclusive Guide to Camera Pricing.......2005-03-30
My McKeown's price guide has been an invaluable tool in selling old camera's at online auction sites. It not only gives you a solid idea of what a camera is worth, but it many cases it gives you some history and background as well.
There are pictures of almost every camera listed to help you identify your exact model, and it explains in detail the difference between similar models.
I can't think of anything that could be added to make this a more complete pricing guide.
Cameras in Alaska.......2004-12-25
I use this book often, I have found that in addition to the obveous use (prise guide) there is a fair amount of history that helped with research. Contains much useful information.
Classic Guide to Antique Cameras.......2004-07-30
I have had the pleasure of owning (and still own) the 1976 Guide To Antique Cameras by Mckeown. It has been many years since then and the price for a guide has really risen. As an Antique dealer I found myself getting interested in collectible cameras once again. I knew I needed a guide and reviewed a 1996 copy a friend owned my McKeowen and was convinced this is the one to own. My library consists of at least 200 books on Antiques and 50 price guides on Art, Jewelry, clothing, Orientalia to name a few. I hesitated at the price for this guide, but after reasearching the options I knew this was the concise price guide for me. I own it and am happy I chose it and it makes me MONEY just owning it. I have 30 years of Amatuer collecting and selling under my belt and I really don't need a price guide just my wits, (that's what I told myself) but it just makes it soooo easy to reinforce my experience with a reference and value basis for my risks. Leica III,a,b,c,g, Mentor Reflex, Zeiss-Ikon Miroflex, Robot 35mm, Hasselblad, Kodak Field Cameras, Sept 35mm camera projector, TDC 3d projector & Nikon Cameras are a few of the cameras I have used this informational price guide in evaluating.
McKeown Is One Of The Ultimate Authorities on Cameras.......2002-04-26
Jim McKeown's books are the most comprehensive sources of accurate information on cameras in the world. Period. Other books may give more information on specific cameras, but if you are to have but one source to refer to,choose McKeown. He will never disappoint you.
Another wonderful camera expert and writer (they don't always go together) is Ivor Matanle. His two books are treasures. But if you want facts, go with McKeown. You will return over and over to his book. Speaking face to face with him is most rewarding. You realize you are learning from one of the world authorities.
Wonderful pictures, camera values (prices) rarity, etc. This book contains cameras even experts haven't heard about. But McKeown is the expert of experts, and you will keep this large, heavy, over 900 page book near just for the fun of reading it. Am I enthused? Yes! I have bought his books since the 4th edition in 1983-84, and always been pleased.
A lengthy review? Yes, but this book deserves much praise!

Customer Reviews:
This Is The Single Most Useful Book I Own.......2004-05-05
... on any topic. It is beautifully conceived and organized. I second all of the endorsements above.
Great guide.......2003-09-26
I liked the fact that this book's many plant groupings ('Dry shade', 'Fragrant flowers', etc) included color photos of each recommended plant. That way, if you are planning a whole area, you can picture how different plants would look together. Plus, they identify stand-outs in each category. There are many codes for the sun, soil type, etc for each plant.
The ONE garden book I couldn't do without.......2003-05-09
During planting season, this is the one book I turn to almost daily. It has helped me find plants which will grow and thrive in my shade garden (which has dense, moist soil)...my side yard (which contains areas of chalky, rocky ground)...an area which is moisture-prone and nearly always wet...another area that has some shade, some sun and another with acid soil...and so on. Each page of this book has full-color photos of the plants as well as their final size, flowering season, needs, care, etc. The author goes on to describe those that are perfect for such ground covers, containers, hedges, etc.
An exceptionally useful gardening book, even after 14 years!.......1999-02-28
This book has been a constant companion as I planned and nurtured 3 different gardens in 3 different homes. Of all the books in my gardening library - and over the years I have purchased quite a few - this has remained the one in constant use. This is not a design book, but rather a very well organized "tool", allowing a gardener to zero in on plants that have the best chance of thriving under a particular set of conditions. I too wore out my first copy, but with years of notations, it is too valuable to replace. It remains one of my favorites.
Essential reading for every gardener, beginner or pro........1996-11-06
It is a problem for every gardener. You walk through the
garden center or leaf through the catalog, making
your selection, envisioning the new plant thriving at home.
Lovingly, you pick the perfect spot, carefully planting and
nurturing your prize ---- only to be
disappointed by the results of your efforts.
What went wrong? Perhaps you had too much sun for its
liking, or too little.
Possibly you got too much rain or not nearly enough.
Or maybe the perennial that looked so charming in the
garden center spread rapidly enough to choke
out everything else and soon took over the garden.
Nicola Ferguson understands, and this book is aptly titled ---
it really does make it easy to select the right plant for the
right place, no matter what type of garden you want.
She discusses not only the optimal growing conditions for
thousands of plants, but also adresses a range of concerns
that all gardeners --- whether beginners or pros --- ought to
know before they plant. The material is organized so that it
is easy to find exactly the information needed, and the book
features colorful photos of nearly every plant mentioned
(surprising at this price).
I found this book incredibly useful, and in fact, actually wore
out a copy (well, honestly, the first copy was not bound
all that well, either). If you have any interest in gardening
and reading, you've probably already spent a lot
more for books that were of much less help. Do yourself a
favor --- before your next trip to the nursery, dig into a copy
of this book. I guarantee you'll learn something that will
help make your dream garden become a reality

Book Description
In dramatic color photographs by renowned environmental photographer Robert Glenn Ketchum and in insightful text by Charles Callison, Overlooked in America warns of the careless devastation of America's federally-held lands.
Using the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area as a metaphor for the complicated management problems surrounding federal lands, Ketchum reveals the imperiled beauty of these areas. A full one-third of all U.S. land-- including parks, beaches, forests, off-shore oil-deposits, and mountains-- is owned and managed by the federal government, whose stewardship is intended to renew and maintain this vast national treasure. Due to clashing intra-agency goals and the ever-changing policies of rotating administrations, the federal government has long been negligent in enforcing the mandate of sustainable development of these lands. Caught in the middle of a bureaucratic snarl, our national trust is at risk of substantial environmental deterioration such as overgrazing, loss of topsoil, deforestation, contamination of soil and water, and failure to restore developed areas already sacrificed for their resources.
Stunning color photographs evoke the endangered elegance of the American landscape, from views of toxic brooks weaving through a forest floor to rustic barns set in the hills Overlooked in America makes a strong case for drastic changes in federal land management before our irreplaceable legacy is lost forever. Published to coincide with a traveling exhibit of Robert Glenn Ketchum's eloquent photographs, the book includes a preface by Mr. Ketchum and an essay by Charles Callison, of the National Resources Defense Council, on the achievements and shortcomings of federal land management.

Book Description
Autobiography of the first half of the twentieth century was used variously by different groups of writers to interrogate, negotiate, and even to program the social and political progress of China. However, despite the popularity and success of this genre, it has also been the most forgotten in literary and historical discussions. Personal stories and individual expressions seem to have had no place in 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s China, smothered instead by the grander rhetoric of nationalism. For this reason, autobiography's popularity during the era is an odd phenomenon and also an important genre for study.
The May Fourth Era (1917-40) began as a movement to make the classical literary language accessible to the common people and became a broader political movement against imperialism. The writing of autobiography was influenced by the idea of literature's social and political mission, yet at the same time autobiography was a uniquely potent venue for individual expression. Janet Ng examines this notion in The Experience of Modernity within the framework of autobiographical writings by Chen Hengzhe, Lu Xun, Hu Shi, Xie Bingying, Xiao Hong, Eileen Chang, Yu Dafu, and Shen Congwen.
Janet Ng is Assistant Professor of Asian Literature, the College of Staten.
