Description:
Fractionation of @d^1^3C and @d^1^5N between food, consumer, and faecal pellets was studied in the Arctic marine copepod Calanus glacialis Jaschnov, fed with isotopically distinct algal monocultures. Temporal variations in @d^1^3C and @d^1^5N of copepods that were fed ice algae and phytoplankton followed those of a control group consisting of starved animals. There were no significant trends in the @d^1^3C and @d^1^5N values of copepods that were starved for 42 days, suggesting that the isotopic composition of non-lipid body tissues is unaffected by the metabolic processes during prolonged periods of starvation. The stable isotopic composition of starved copepods therefore seems to reflect food consumed during the previous period of feeding and growth. Faecal pellets produced by feeding copepods were depleted in ^1^3C and ^1^5N by 6.3-11.2%% and 0.7-9.1%%, respectively, relative to the food ingested. These results indicate that faecal pellet production is an important pathway for the trophic fractionation of @d^1^3C, whereas other fractionation pathways, such as excretion of ammonia, may be relatively more important for @d^1^5N. The strong depletion of ^1^3C in faecal pellets compared to the food suggests that grazing by herbivorous copepods on primary production adds to the variability of @d^1^3C in marine particulate organic matter.

Althought this book can provide a quick overview of the panorama of the main medical discoveries, which actually seem to be well selected, I expected a deeper and less fragmented cultural insight. While the elementary informations provided might be interesting for non professionals, I would rather advice "Cambridge illustrated history of medicine" for those who are willing to read a good history of medicine on a complete wide cultural and general history background.

This Barron booklet is a comprehensive manual for all matters involving Eskies. It's a travel through the life of an Eskie, from choosing a breeder to having them bred. It covers the temperment, abilities, nature and behaviors of this breed. It answers questions and offers further resources for more specific info. It's the "bible" we use for our Eskie, Shasta. And yes, you're shown some cute pictures of adorable Eskie puppies!

This was my first Eskie book and it's a great introduction to the breed. I read it cover to cover several times. Read and heed. It's even got some funny "comments" as I call them and they will make you laugh when you realize that your eskies really are like that! Great reading.

A must reading for anyone who owns an American Eskimo. These are very special dogs! I also recommend the true story of Princess as told in "Good Morning, Miss Prin" - a heartwarming story of an American Eskimo who suffered longlasting damage from abuse, and found a loving and secure home with two special people.

In one of the previous reviews, it said this book doesn't cover teething and such. But it does! It covers teething, digging, housebreaking, training, breeding and much more! What you need before the purchase and how to pick a show dog! I highly suggest this book if you plan on, or already have, an American Eskimo Dog.

this book was ok. i was hoping for more information, such as stages the puppy will go through. i never had a dog before this one, so i needed more information on things like teething, and other stages of life. the book was helpful though concerning some things like digging.

Decoys I Might Have Kept.......2004-01-05
If only---I can say that and really mean it now that I have read Ken Trayer's new book on Factory Decoys. Where has all this information been for so long? I have passed by so many factory decoys over the years without having the vaguest idea who made them, when, how, where, and in some cases, why. If I had had this bookful of knowledge, how many of those decoys would I have kept? Hard to say, but I do know that I have passed on to others a lot of decoys I SHOULD have kept.
This book is going to be invaluable to me in the future. It is well written, covers the things I would like to know, want to know, should know and need to know. Thanks, Ken, for all your hard work. Thanks for providing a wonderful history of the Factory Decoy.

This book is the BEST reference book for the collector of FACTORY DECOYS. It is very easy to read and very enjoyable as well!!! There are over 1,100 photographs (mostly in color).If you have that decoy that you can't identify, then this book is for you! I couldn't put it down until I read every word! My collection of factory ducks, geese, crows, owls & shorebirds has grown considerably as a result of buying this book. I bought my autographed copy from the author at www.factorydecoys.com. Decoy factories prior to 1970.......2004-01-04
This book is an excellent study of waterfowl decoys factories prior to 1970. It is a very comprehensive review of the many small and large factories producing decoys made of everything from paper marche to metal. Where possible, decoys are listed by model number which is important to the collector. Photography is excellent, all photo's are in color. Added interest are the color photo's of company sales brochures and pamphlets describing decoy offerings. Excellent book. The buyer can't go wrong with this one.
North American Factory Decoys by Kenneth L. Trayer.......2004-01-02
This is simplly the best book yet written on the masses of factory decoys produced. Independent and original research by Mr Trayer has turned up factories most of us have never heard of! And, of course, he has included all the familiar ones as well. The scope of the book is all encompassing: he covers wood, cork, paper mache', cloth, styrofom, plastic, and metal decoys. The 892 color pictures and 185 black and white photos are clear and show the identifying marks of each company described. The book is presented in alphabetic order by company name, so it is easy to use as a field guide when out at the flea market, yard sale, or antique show. Armed with this 415 page, large format book you neeed never fear facing an unfamiliar factory decoy again. Chances are good that it is in here!

Never have I experienced before the feeling of looking into Italy's eyes so deeply. The photos of Paul Strand along with the notes of Cesare Zavattini are a masterpiece.
But most important : you may fall in love with the little girl on page 72. As for me, I will never forget that look.
