A Lucky Man.......2006-01-14
Columbus was a lucky man (blessed, he would say). He had to be. Who else could have so much go so wrong and still become famous for the one big thing he did by mistake: discover America...if he did that. Anyway, he had a lot of adventure (or misadventure), and Jean Fritz tells about it and him--not in the traditionally reverent way, but with a humorous and matter-of-fact approach.
"Where Are You Going, Heinrich Himmler?".......2003-09-26
It's hard to imagine something lower or more morally contemptible than books of this kind. Columbus was guilty of the genocide of eight million Native people. Imagine "Where Are You Going Heinrich Himmler?" or "Where Are You Going Adolf Eichmann?" for comparison. His vaunted "discovery" was no such thing. Native people were already there. Polynesians, Inuit, Phoenicians, and Africans had already made the same voyage, and unlike old Chris did not slaughter millions once they got here.
For very young children, I would simply mention that Columbus was a very cruel man and leave it at that. It is simply impossible to tell them the truth at such a young age without giving them nightmares. But for heaven's sake, DONT whitewash or glorify a butcher like Columbus. Once they are in their teens, tell you children the TRUTH with such wonderful books as Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me or Takaki's A Different Mirror. Our kids deserve truth, not lies, in order for them to better deal with the legacy of genocide.
A Fun Book to Stimulate Interest in History.......2002-01-31
This is a fun book that should help your youngster develop an interest in American History. It is easy to read an has great illustratiions. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. Look for others by the same author.
Very informative with interesting illustrations.......1998-01-24
Nicely done. Jean Fritz relates to children of "all ages". A necessary compliment alongside the more encyclopedic versions.

An Excellent Story.......2002-07-08
Although it has been quite a few years since I have read this book, I too found it very entertaining. I read it many times and just couldn't get a copy of it anywhere new until amazon.com. It is a good book for kids who are looking for a science fiction in particular. I think it might be entertaining as an adult as well. The characters were developed well and the story was fast paced. I also believe that the story is quite unique and portrays good messages.
Childhood Bliss.......2000-05-14
Galvin G. Gunhold is dead. I was particularly amused by the above discription of the book, "Space Trap" by Monica Hughes. While I was young I signed this book out many times to read over and over. Along with them I also signed out stories by Gordon Kormon, who's "Bruno & Boots" books featured a fake character by the name of Galvin G. Gunhold. Anyhow.
Though, being about 6 years and many experiences later I still remember this being an excellent book for young 10-14 your old children. It features all the makings of a good science fiction adventure, robots and misunderstood aliens. A girl gets trapped on an strange world that kidnaps other alien races for Zoo's. Her brother and sister have been kidnapped as well, ans she's the only one that can get them off the planet and home again. Highly recommended!
A Psychoanalytical study of transrelational Gender modes........1999-07-29
This intellectual book is evidently juvinile fiction as it is not mentally stimulating. Also I found this book in the childrens section of my local library while I was looking up local folklore about Vlad Tepish A.K.A. Dracula. As it turned out for reasons known only to the library staff I found a complete illustrated guide to the occult on the shelf in the childrens section. As I took it off the shelf out fell SPACE TRAP. I should have immediately replaced the book, however I picked it up and promptly recieved a large paper cut.
As soon as the pain had abated I read SPACE TRAP and within 3 hours of my accident the book was back on the shelf at the librairy still awaiting the time when It can unceremoniously jump off of the shelf at an unsuspecting reader.
So For a final piece of advice. Stay away from this book! It is bad luck.

Book Description
New information about disease transmission, dietary and economic linkage, and the continuing international focus on conservation and primate research have created a surge of interest in primates, and focus on the diverse interaction of human and nonhuman primates has become an important component in primatological and ethnographic studies. By examining the diverse and fascinating range of relationships between humans and other primates and observing how this plays a critical role in conservation practice and programs, Primates Face to Face disseminates the information gained from the anthropological study of nonhuman primates to the wider academic and non-academic world.
Download Description
As our closest evolutionary relatives, nonhuman primates are integral elements in our mythologies, diets and scientific paradigms, yet most species now face an uncertain future through exploitation for the pet and bushmeat trades as well as progressive habitat loss. New information about disease transmission, dietary and economic linkage, and the continuing international focus on conservation and primate research have created a surge of interest in primates, and focus on the diverse interaction of human and nonhuman primates has become an important component in primatological and ethnographic studies. By examining the diverse and fascinating range of relationships between humans and other primates, and how this plays a critical role in conservation practice and programs, Primates Face to Face disseminates the information gained from the anthropological study of nonhuman primates to the wider academic and non-academic world.

A compilation of essays on primates.......2000-04-04
This is a good reference book for those with a strong background in biology who are interested in primates. The essays are well organized and color photos in the center provide easy reference to some species. However, the language can be difficult to understand. I would not recommend it for someone who is looking for lite reading
Book Description
In Memory in the Cerebral Cortex, Joaquín M. Fuster presents the insights of more than three decades of empirical research on the neural processes by which memory is formed, stored, and retrieved. Spanning the field from neuroanatomy to modeling, this book brings together all that we presently know about the role of the cerebral cortex of the primate in memory.
Customer Reviews:
A Comprehensive & Direct Understanding of Memory Formation........1999-06-29
Dr. Joaquin Fuster, in Memory in the Cerebral Cortex : An Empirical Approach to Neural Networks in the Human and Nonhuman Primate, has organized and integrated a wealth of neurobiological and neuropsychological information concerning cortical memory processing and formation. He provides the reader with a clear and succinct understanding of how the cerebral cortex processes information for ultimate storage into memory. The book starts with an overview of cortical specialization of function and then examines developmental issues and memory formation, different models for understanding memory networks, provides a detailed, but concise, description of perceptual and motor memory organization, examines the dynamics of cortical memory retrieval and attention, as well as the phenomenology of memory. In response to this book's thorough and concise presentation, I highly recommend its review by the many professionals who study and work with cortical memory.

Book Description
This book presents a selection of essays by the Indian philosopher J.L. Mehta on the topics of hermeneutics and phenomenology containing many original reflections on questions of interpretation and the creative retrieval and renewal of meanings from ancient traditions. Beginning with essays on sources of modern phenomenological methods, the work goes on to articulate principles of phenomenology and to apply them to the interpretation of Hindu traditions and texts. The final group of essays consider the problems of East-West understanding and issues of intercultural relationships and the possibilities of planetary thinking. In the fourteen essays brought together here, Mehta elucidates the contributions of continental philosophers such as Husserl, Heidegger and Gadamer, and interprets meanings of the Rig Veda, Krishna in the Mahabharata, and the life of Sri Aurobindo. He also critically examines Western perceptions of India as a culture steeped in its own dreams, and explores the processes of rediscovering and re- appropriating through interpretation and translation one's ideological roots. The book contains an introductory and a concluding essay by the editor, contextualizing Mehta's life and studies. Thoughtful and provocative pieces by Wilhelm Halbfass and Raimondo Panikkar lead into the main body of the work. This is an especially useful work because Mehta was a rare kind of international thinker. In his mature essays his thinking came full circle - having grown from Hindu origins, expanding through Western psychology and continental philosophy, and returning to re-assess profound questions in Indian thought.
