This is a great all-round guide to the beautiful city of Dublin. I found this book to be thorough, unbiased and honest (it didn't read like a tourism leaflet). Never had any problems with it, personally. Also loved the chapters on history, Dublin today and so on. ***** out of *****.

everything I wanted.......2005-05-12

I recently visited Ireland on vacation and this guide absolutely hit the mark for me during our time in Dublin. Very informative, easy to use and pretty funny too in places. Many guidebooks tend to be quite flat but this one felt like a book and not just a guide. Wish I'd been in Dublin a little longer, I'd love to have checked out more of the museums and stuff - but I'm going back next year so maybe then. I'll be taking this when I do anyway.

I took this book on a recent trip to Dublin, and can safely say that it is one of the best and most helpful guidebooks I have used in recent years. The listings are well thought out, and everything is written with a refreshing lack of spin - the author clearly loves Dublin, but unlike many guidebooks to this city I've used, I never got the feeling I was being sold an image. In fact, overall, this is an incredibly written book - sassy, witty and never merely functional, with mini-essays and articles dropped in among the prerequisite listings and sightseeing sections. I have since found myself dipping into it just for pleasure. Would definitely recommend this guide to others.

Brilliant.......2005-05-12

This guide is astonishingly good. It manages to pack in history, sights, great restaurants and all the best bars, while also being funny, clever and surprising. I used it on a recent trip to Dublin and had the time of my life! Without it, I would never have found the Market Bar, or discovered the Chester Beatty Library (which many guides overlook, sadly). I've been to Dublin many times, but never had such an easy, successful trip as I did with this guide.

(...). You're better off going for Lonely Planet or Let's Go or the Berkeley Guide. This guide is terrible. I was so disappointed especially after how good their Time Out Guide to Cape Town is. I expected it to be just as good. It makes it seem like Dublin is boring. Go buy another guide. I wish we had an option to give negative stars.

Almost Perfect.......2000-01-05

The Time Out guides are ideal for the under 40 group. Most of the listings are timely and right on the mark. Supplement this purchase with the actually weekly paper once you arrive in Dublin or London. Unfortunately, the hotel listings leave much to be desired, since you don't get a complete listing, and may be disappointed when you arrive and find that there were other options.

On the whole, the guides have a wider variety of information, though not as generous as Blue Guides, they can be pocketed easily, or carried about without looking like an Ugly American.

Take a look at the price! Think about it! How can any guide appeal to every age group! It cannot. So if you're tastes are more early 90's and less Early Bird Dinner...this is the practical guide!

Founded in London in 1984 by Mark Holt, Simon Johnston, and Hamish Muir, 8vo was one of the most influential design studios in the 1980s and continues to be significant in the design world today. The design studio used traditional, craft-based working methods but an experimental approach to design in order to anticipate the computer-aided aesthetic of the 90s. The magazine Octavo, published in eight issues from 1986 to 1992 has long held cult status and is thoroughly documented here, along with the background against which it emerged. 8vo's work pushed back the boundaries of commercial design, and was a key factor in preparing the way for many contemporary designers.

A great read that focuses on process rather than product........2006-01-19

This is a really interesting book that breaks the common mould of graphic design career reviews. The usual "slide show" of finished posters/books/etc is shunned in favour of a deeper look at the thought process & physical development behind selected work.

The book is by Mark Holt & Hamish Muir -the principals in 8vo from around the time of its inception in the early 80s until its eventual closure in 2000. In this time they most notably worked for Factory Records, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, "Flux" music festival & Holt Hinshaw Pfau on very open, unconstrained briefs to design posters & other printed material. On these "creative" (as some would have it) briefs, they applied their own interpretation of rational "international style" - resulting in some of the best graphics of the era. However, the more interesting aspects of this book are their application of grid systems & rational design process to more everyday items - such as phone & water bills.

The book openly shares their exploration of intellectual & physical process behind a form of graphic design that shied away from using images, and through that mechanism, the reader is introduced not only to how they produced graphics - but what "design" meant to them. When everything in the late 1980s was "designer", 8vo described themselves as "visual engineers" rather than "designers". With this exploration, the reader should come away with an appreciation of the process behind credit card bills as much as an appreciation of the aesthetics of a good type-based poster.

The book is dimensionally small, but does come in at over 500 pages. It is very well designed & features 5 essays from esteemed designers. If you are looking for a glossy career retrospective - this isn't your book. If you are looking for a fantastic insight into the process behind great design, then it is!

Cat Secrets Revealed.......2003-04-28

This itty bitty book explains quite a few things about cat behavior! Apparently cats are very in tune with feng shui and the flow of energy in our homes. Okay, so it's really just a funny little book that's good for a little entertainment and humor. My fave bit in the book is that to keep the positive flow of energy black cats should only shed on white furniture, white cats should only shed on black furniture, and calicos can shed on everything. I have a calico, so I love that part. This is a great little book for any cat lover.

In searching for a good "layman's" book on Feng Shui, I came accross this gem. Many other books on the subject were a little too scientific for my needs. This is a great introduction for a beginner.

I also happen to be an avid cat lover, and think the theme of this book is wonderful! The ideas conveyed in this book about a cat being the perfect "purrveyor" (pun intended) of balance and energy is extremely intriguing.

Along with informative and insightful content, the pictures add a beautiful element. This is a new favorite book on my bookshelf, and I would definitely recommend it to any cat lover who is interested in learning about Feng Shui.

Basic Feng Shui for cat lovers.......2003-06-26

I quite enjoyed this book, even though some readers will be more familiar with Feng Shui than the writer assumes. It includes the basic fundamentals of Feng Shui with observation of your kitty for better attunement to the flow of energy. You don't even necessarily need to think of your cat as a "familiar" to find this book helpful. If you believe that your animals are better in tune to Earth's energy than you are, than you can definitely use this book for more insight into Feng Shui and your beloved cat!

They are the cats of the house! and it is all about their favorite places to be...even if it means on top of my head! The book was great to read, gave us great ideas, and made us purrrrrr at the pictures! I had never thought about the fact that the kitties like to be in certain places in the house (ie their kitty bed, their litter box, and where they eat), and this taught me something new about them!

I bought this book because I was tired of going to my mom when I felt like authenic Eastern European food. This book is wonderful. The pictures are large and really show how great the food looks. The only drawback are the number of pages. Every recipe has a little background on the dish and to which country it originates from (Poland, Russia or the Ukraine). The ingredients are easy to find in the store and do not require specialty stores. I highly recommend this book!

This book is an excellent resource and covers all topics in a sufficient and easy to read manner and definitely covers all the "elements". Anyone that is interested in Photogrammetry will find this book quite useful.

Book Review: Elements of Phtogrammetry.......2000-09-27

This book is substantially revised from the previous edition in 1983, some 17 years ago. Consequently, new topics are added, particularly on GIS and digital photogrammetry. The appendixes on least squares adjustment, co-ordinate transformations, collinearity equations and digital resampling are particularly useful.

This book is clearly one of the best ones around in the area of photogrammetry. The chapters are properly organised and the concepts are explained clearly.

Of course, every book has to focus on its intent and target audience. The authors did this with flying colors. If there is anything missing in the current photogrammetric literature, it surely must be a book that reorganises the chapters into an operational book of case studies on photogrammetric practice.

I strongly recommend the book to you.
