From the opening pages, as Dominic Hamilton describes skipping up the rocky path to Venezuela's Angel Falls like an overexcited schoolboy, you know you're in for something different--and good--with this travel guide. Every travel guide series has its niche, and Traveler's Companion's is adventure and romance. Which is to say, this book spends most of its pages getting you enthused about the adventures waiting for you, rather than boring you with dry information and dull history lessons. Hamilton, a British journalist who has lived in Venezuela for almost a decade, has the inside scoop and shares the country's glories enthusiastically. Dubbed "Paradise on Earth" by Columbus himself, Venezuela still lives up to its nickname. Hamilton describes its "top spots" with a string of superlatives--Venezuela is home to the world's highest waterfall (Angel Falls), more bird species than in North America and Europe put together, the longest and highest cable car in the world, and more Caribbean coast than any other country in the region. Once Hamilton has whetted your appetite, it's on to "Your Choice," a section devoted to describing the myriad activities available, such as hiking, scuba diving, fishing, mountain biking, and horseback riding, most of it in 40 national parks and monuments. There's also adventure tourism in the form of paragliding, mountaineering, and white-water rafting, family fun, the arts, and fiestas throughout the year. The bulk of the book is devoted to descriptions of various regions of the country, with listings of what to see and where to stay and eat broken down by price range. The sections are well designed and clearly marked, which makes for quick access. While the maps are fairly inadequate, the full-color photographs bring out all the color and variety of the place, with its azure waters, golden dunes, craggy mountain ranges, and festively dressed peoples. And yes, there is a history section, but it's lively. Finally, the "Traveler's Tips" section has been relegated to the back where it belongs. Sure, it's important stuff--transportation, exchanging money, health concerns, and an excellent guide to Venezuelan Spanish--but after all, you're traveling for the adventure, right? Well, pick up this guide and go. You're in able hands. --Lesley Reed

(Planeta.com Journal) - We've waited several years for the publication of this excellent guidebook. Dominic has been a frequent contributor to Planeta.com. Who better to pass along choice tips for travelers eyeing the South American country of Venezuela? Maps and a thorough index are a big plus. Lavish color photos by Anthony Cassidy compliment the text. This is your guide to Angel Falls, Margarita Island and the magnificent tepuis. The book also provides an in-depth look at what makes the capital of Caracas just an interesting city. Highly recommended!

awesome!.......2007-06-22
This book has an answer to every question! Please be aware that even though tomatoes are fruits, they are not covered in this book but she does cover them in her veggie book. I have both and would highly recommend them to any gardener of all levels. I am probably somewhere in the middle and I love her writing style...so easy to understand and doesn't make you feel stupid. Easy categories and clear index make it easy to refer back and forth.

Customer Reviews:
boring.......2007-03-19
I gave this book as a stocking stuffer this year. But when I flipped through it, it had only basic information. Nothing exciting or inspirational. boo
Smart Little Book.......2006-10-30
I bought this item together with other photography books and I am very pleased with it. The author, Michael Langford, (yes the same guy who wrote the highly acclaimed Basic Photography) distilled the lessons into 101 easy tips that is a great help for beginners who wanted to get their feet wet immediately.
I would highly recommend this book to any newcomer to photography who is both excited about his camera and cannot be bothered to spend time with more voluminous photography books. This book goes immediately to the heart of the matter: camera background and how to tackle photography subjects.
If I had this book when I was still using my point and shoot, I would have produced more good pictures simply by the fact that I would be able to avoid the common pitfalls and mistakes of beginners (unknown to me then), which this little book teaches.
Altough this is concerned with film photography, I still recommend this even if you have a digital camera because the proven ways of effectively composing a picture are still the same whether you use film or digital. Photography is still about the unique way of seeing things in a whole new light and composing them in the canvas that is your camera's viewfinder so that you would be able to show your audience exactly what you want.
Great tips for the stubborn novice.......2006-02-18
My 15 year old son, who of course is an expert on everything, reluctantly read this compact book and admitted that he learned quite a bit from it. He certainly takes good pictures so we certainly got our moneys worth!
Don't let the small size fake you out!.......2004-07-07
This little book is GREAT! It was one of many books that I bought when I took my first my first round with an SLR. I really got more out of it than several of the more impressive (& expensive) books that I bought! I carried it around in my camera bag forever and referred to it many times. Then when my daughter showed an interest in photography it is the one I picked to get her started. If you are just starting out.. don't sweat the 5 bucks!
great little book.......2003-07-17
I think this little book has a lot if good usefull info in it.I know I learned a lot from it.

Very basic info.......2001-01-24
This slim and small volume gives you basic information about using a home camcorder. Published in 1995, the section on camcorder equipment is already half outdated. The techniques sections cover zooming, panning, tilting, composing, etc. Each of the 101 tips is very brief, to the point of not being too helpful sometimes. For example, lighting -- a very important topic -- receives only superficial coverage.
While this book can be carried with you easily, overall it's a disappointment. If you are genuinely green to camcorder videography, this can get you started. If you are looking to improve your videos, look elsewhere.

Book Description
Life in Vancouver’s Chinese community is revealed in this memoir by artist Sing Lim. These are his memories of his childhood in the 1920s. Sing Lim lived with his parents, brothers, and sister in a prison-like apartment. He describes his neighbors in vivid detail: the music makers in the apartment below, the shopkeepers on the ground level, the herbalist. Readers share his experiences at Chinese festivals, grand funerals, ritual ceremonies, and secret tong societies. A book rich in information and personal anecdotes.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Account of Life on a Confederate Cruiser........2000-01-09
Review by James N. Vogler, Jr., editor Confederate Veteran. Most of us know the tale of that great Confederate raider the CSS Alabama and her illustrious Captain Raphael Semmes. The scourge of the Union merchant fleet, the Alabama sank over sixty Yankee vessels in her brief, but dramatic career. There have been countless books about the ship, including a fine account, Memoirs of Service Afloat by her captain. This volume provides an account of service on the Alabama from a slightly different angle. Beneath the Stainless Banner was written by John McIntosh Kell, the ship's executive officer, the man who ran the day to day operations of this deadly raider. The reader gets a feel for the inner workings of a sailing vessel on the high seas in search of its prey. While most of the book revolves around the Alabama and her exploits, Kell does write about his service on the CSS Sumter where he also served under Raphael Semmes. This book is actually a reproduction of the second volume of John Kell's memoir entitled Recollections of a Naval Life, Including the Cruises of the Sumter and Alabama published in 1900. R. Thomas Campbell has enhanced the work with footnotes and some photographs. This is an excellent account of life on a Confederate raider, and I recommend it to any of our readers whose interest is in the sea.

Book Description
Although neuropsychology is little more than half a century old, the field has flourished and has had a profound impact on our understanding of the brain and our assessment and treatment of brain disorders. The start of a new century is an opportune time to reflect on the origins and future of this expanding field. Pathways to Prominence in Neuropsychology captures the stories behind the work of the clinicians and scholars who have contributed significantly to neuropsychology's development.
Uniquely, this book goes beyond a discussion of ideas and discoveries to explore the people and the career paths they have taken. The book is divided into three major sections. Part I reviews the lives and work of key figures such as Nelson Butters, Aleksandr Luria and Roger Sperry. In Part II a number of pioneers in the field reflect on the body of their work in the context of their personal development and professional pathways. The role of social and cultural factors, scientific and technological advances, and serendipity becomes apparent in many of these chapters. A final section focuses on the future of neuropsychology both as a profession and as a science.
While it would be impossible to provide an exhaustive review of the field in a single volume, Pathways to Prominence in Neuropsychology will provide twenty-first-century scholars and clinicians with insight and inspiration in the reflections of the generation that preceded them.

Best health book out there!.......2007-07-08
This book is great! Andreas is easy to read, and understandable. His explanations are logical and the remedies are easy to do. This is the most comprehensible health book I have.
Johnny Appleseed of the 21st century..........2007-03-17
...if you have any interest in your own health or the health of your family this book is more than worth the price. I could not find anything in here to disagree with and there is a broad spectrum of information presented. Thank you Andreas.
My favorite health book.......2007-03-12
I have a bookcase full of health books. This book isn't there however, because I refer to it so often it's always either on my nightstand or coffee table.
Yes some of the information is on the internet but I don't want to go searching a bunch of sites and wondering if it's credible, I just want to find what I need in one place. Uh, isn't that the point of a book?
This has everything you'd ever need to know to take care of your body presented in an easy to understand format. Very comprehensive. I bought a copy for each of my kids because I was tired of them borrowing it to "look up one thing."
Es una maravilla.......2007-01-09
Este es el mejor libro de salud que jamas haya leido, lo recomiendo encarecidamente. No hay duda que ANdreas Moritz es de la elite en cuanto a salud se refiere
My health just keeps getting better and better.......2006-08-27
Greetings to all
I have read many many books on health. Some on how to get to a healthy state and others on how to maintain it once you get there.
Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation pulls all of the threads/roads, to better health together, in one fantastic book.
It is with great joy and excitement that I share with you my thoughts on this timeless book. I say timeless, because this book has helped me to see that no matter how old I get the facts of how the body is suppose to work do not change. Try as we will, the facts are there and we must change our way of living so we can live the kind of life we all want to enjoy.
Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation is a must have book for those that want to help themselves and their families.
This book is a very real book with answers to questions that many of you have been asking like "why am I sick"? It helps to unravel the complex mystery of how the body works, so you can understand why it is "not working".
I was so taken by this book, that my husband also begun to read in it. He states: "Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation combines both the traditional way of thinking with modern and ancient ideas about physical and mental health, and breathes the spirit of love and respect for life ... It inspires one to seek for the real causes behind sickness and health, showing the relation between the matter and the spiritual. It does not only take away your breath sometimes, but also your fear for death. There is no need to 'agree' or 'disagree' with some of the ideas, which in first appearance may be 'strange' for most of us. The core of the message will hit you eventually, on at least one level...."
Timeless Secrets of Health and Rejuvenation is a great gift to give to any one you love, especially yourself.
Yours in good health
nieema & Sallim Thasing
The above was written last year and is still true to this day!!!

A gorgeous book of directions for making all kinds of decorative projects using the included craft supplies and your own pressed flowers and leaves. Dry the flowers yourself in the handy rubber-banded nature press that's bound right onto the back of the book.
Customer Reviews:
F-U-N!.......2007-05-16
I used this Klutz instruction book for a "Women's Group" activity at my clinic. It gave us easy to follow instructions and great visual aids that helped to spark creativity. The project turned out very good and we all had fun! Now I am pressing flowers at home with my grandchildren!
Good strart for kids.......2006-08-25
This is more of a what to do with the pressed flowers than a how to press flowers book. There are many great craft ideas and materials to get yo started. The actual press limits you to two sheets of pressings, but is a good start for kids.
Really neat book, but way too short.......2001-06-13
This book is really cool! It has basic information on pressing flowers and leaves and a whole lot of good ideas for using your flowers once you have them all pressed. One example: using flowers and leaves to make letters and spell out your name. The photos are excellent, and the book is full of color. It is written in a fun, conversational tone, although some of the instructions are slightly more complicated than they really need to be. My only complaint would be that the book doesn't seem to be quite long enough. I got to the end and wanted a little bit more. Besides that, this book is inspiring, fun, and entertaining, and a great introduction into the world of flower pressing!
Pressing flowers.......2001-04-13
This book is verry enjoyable. I think kids as well as adults would enjoy doing this.

Book Description
What did early Scottish gardens look like? Evocative and tantalising remains of "missing gardens" such as earthworks, stone walls, doocots, date stones, terracing, traceries of paths, sundials, a few ancient yews, and the gardens themselves -- Culross, Edzell, Pitmedden, Kinross -- fire the imagination as Sheila Mackay guides the reader on a personal tour of the 16th, 17th and 18th-century gardens of Scotland. Illustrated with over 90 photographs, paintings, sketches, plans and line-drawings, the volume explores the gardens at Holyrood, Taymouth Castle, Neidpath Castle, Edzell Castle, Stirling Castle, Dunbar's Close, Culross Palace, Pitmedden, Craigievar, Crathes, Kinross House, Yester House, Blair Adam, Drummond Castle, Penicuik House, Blair Castle and The Hermitage. A map indicates the location of all the gardens explored in the book.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderfully excellent book!!.......1999-04-09
When I was a young boy I saw the Jack Paar show? and one day Paar was interviewing a family that had been captured by the Japanese during World War II and were interned in a P.O.W. camp. This family suffered tremendously. The man, William R. Moule, wrote a book and I still remembered the title from 40 years ago "God's Arms Around Us."
Well to make a long story short, I searched Amazon .com for the title 40 years later and they had it!! The book was extremely exciting, I am surprised it has never been made into a movie.
Mr. Moule's writing style was very personal, he has the ability to make you feel you are right there with him, his wife and 3 small children trying to escape the Japanese who are looking for them.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that has any relative who fought in the Second World War or has an interest in WW II. It was really great!!
