This handbook illustrates and describes the 200 kinds of common weeds found in Kansas along roadsides and in yards, gardens, and cultivated fields. Designed as a reference for the general reader with no special training in botany, it will be of value to farmers, ranchers, gardeners, or anyone who must control weeds.

A detailed line drawing of the plant and a distribution map is provided for each species. The description lists its common and scientific names and includes information on the plant's typical size, stem, leaves, flowers, particular arrangement of flowers, and habitat. Useful commentary about the weed--such as whether it is poisonous to livestock--is also given. The book includes a glossary of botanical terms and an index of plant names.

A handy system of "finding lists" enable the user, working with only three or fewer structural features of a plant, to arrive at easy, on-the-spot identification of an unknown weed.

Poor coverage of the Burgundy wine region.......2007-03-26

I'm planning a tour of the Burgundy wine region in the Fall and this provided very little assistance and information. It's a very superficial review of the wine region. There is no coverage of the small villages such as Gevrey Chambertin, Volvnay, Morey Denis, or Chambolle Musigny. I'm still looking for another source, but it's not from this guide.

Generally excellent coverage, as usual from the Green Guide series.
Some of the hotel, restaurant, and cafe suggestions included are useful supplements to the Red Guide listings. (It is useful, though, to cross-check the Green Guide hotel suggestions on the [...] web site, to ascertain such features as whether there is air conditioning, an elevator, etc.) There is a good, and very helpful, section of the introduction devoted to the history of the Duchy of Burgundy -- from about 1300 to 1500 a major player on the European geopolitical scene.

French language versions are more comprehensive than English language versions.......2007-04-08

If you do or do not have French language reading comprehension, take note. This English language edition has only half the material available in the French language edition. The corresponding French edition comes in two separate bindings: (1) Le Guide Vert Bourgogne and (2) Le Guide Vert Jura/Franche-Comte.
The choice of English vs French edition may then be a choice of Compact vs Comprehensive.
It is hard not to put a 5 star rating down, because this really is the best and there really is no substitute choice. However, if you are bilingual, there is a choice and then it is a toss-up. There are some difficulties in using this book still.
It is a good basic guidebook in any case, more detailed than any Lonely Planet or Rick Steves travel book. It is outstanding if you are planning a road trip in a car. Like other most recent editions of the Green Guides, this is a pain though, because it is not well indexed, so you really need to study it well beforehand to know where to find things.
It is a good companion to the Michelin Local Series 1:200,000 or larger scale maps 319 (western Bourgogne with no Beaune), 320 (eastern Bourgogne with Beaune) & 321 (Jura).

Michelin Green Guides were the first guide books to be published about specific regions in France. They still are (for how much time?)useful for people who cannot spend too much time in Bourgogne or Jura. Michelin Green Guide is still valuable. Especially when you visit Burgundy and Jura. Both famous areas for gourmets from all over the world. Because Michelin forged its reputation on restaurants, it is wise to use both Michelin Red Guide 2000 Edition for France and the local green guide for Burgundy and Jura. Those who plan a visit to Switzerland should also buy it. Jura is the other side of the Leman Lake. By the way, some of the most beautiful Alpes and Mont-Blanc landscapes can be viewed from the Jura slopes above Geneva. Because they are concise; because they have explicit propositions Michelin are always to recommend to the one-day or two-days visitor.
