A Great Guide for Country to Country.......2006-01-31

Fodor's Europe holds a great number of useful information including detailed maps of each country in a small package. These come in handy in figuring out how to get around country to country with different means of transportation. The information on where to rent vehicles or take public transportation including weather details and basic prices is top notch. The city maps are not the best however, it would be in a single city traveler's best interest to buy a Rough Guide version of the city they choose to visit.

Information on specific museums and other places of interest are widely covered to the point where the book even includes the open hours, an address, and telephone number for contact. This is very valuable in making future plans so that you won't be discouraged finding out the place is closed in the last minute and having to lose time. Time is of the essence when traveling anywhere that you have interest, especially Europe where open hours and season hours can be confusing to tourists from other continents. Be wise and prepare.

Unlike the Rough Guide to Europe this book covers Iceland and Andorra, which are top "lesser known" countries compared to the likes of England, France, or Spain. Andorra has amazingly low prices and the fact that you can travel around their largest city Andorra la Vella without a car and that the city is in the middle of the Pyrénées gives it a great atmosphere where you can take your time and catch every glimpse of beauty. Iceland is gorgeous wherever you roam with something for everyone and both places are covered quite throughly in this book, highly recommended. On a small note there is reference to taking the Adriatica, which shouldn't be missed if you're looking to see portions of Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia's Adriatic coast.

I really did not like that some regions and cities are not covered in the book; such as the Pyrénées of France and Spain, which are gorgeous and something not to be missed when traveling to Europe. Other portions of each larger country are missing and personally I'm unsure why. Aside from these flaws this book is worth picking up. I travel a lot so these (Fodor's Europe and the Rough Guide to Europe) are the two European Guides I pick up each year to stay updated. I hope that this review has been helpful to those who took the time to read it. Good luck on all of your journeys.

Although the guide is full of information, much of the information given needs an update (one hotel we stayed was listed as 4-stars, I would hate to see a 1-star). The details given , as well as the included maps, leave a great deal to be desired.

Ancient Greece, among a series of Treasure chests, teaches kids about ancient history in Greece. It tells about the Greek gods, and has fun activities for chidren to do. I would also recomend from this series: Rome, Native Americans, and the Chinese.

Patterson is a GODSEND!.......2000-07-29

Gareth Patterson is a saint! He is doing what needs to be done concerning the lions. Humanity is a cancer and that cancer is destroying everything in it's path. Buy this book and jump on the band wagon to save the lions!

ALSO: One of the major problems we face is misinformation. One example is Jennifer Henderson's review of Gareth's book "Last of the Free." The book does not begin with Batian's murder, but end's with it. And in the book, Furaha nor any of her cubs get executed! What is wrong with people? I really wish people would read these books prior to writing reviews!

One last thing: If you buy these books and enjoy them, please do your part to help the Tuli Lion Trust.

Here is an idea. If you live in the Tuli area, become a vegetarian! It is the meat industry and cattle ranching that is the bane of lions today. If we can put the meat industry out of business we can save the lions... and some nice cows as well!

Esta es la revision de un libro que no existe, y si alguien lo cconoce, genial, llevo dos años detras de el y no lo he visto en ningun lado, cada seis meses se retraza el lanzamiento, y despues se cancela, asi por este tiempo, ahora parece que se informa que ha de salir, con un sobre precio de cerca de 20 dolares del original precio, si alguien sabe cual es la diferencia de este titulo con la del publicado en español en diciembre pasado, seria bueno conocerlo, por ahora, si alguien sabe de esta revision de un artista que se merece todo el respeto del mundo, y la admiracion que no ha sido leal a su genialidad, temo que la paciencia del artista, es infinita comparada con la parcimonia del editor....

Though born into a wealthy family, Jiang Bingzi was raised by her mother after the untimely death of her father. She went to school in the May 4 era, when protest was in the air, the radical ideas of Mao were already in print, and her idol, Lu Xun, was making his literary mark. In her late teens she renounced her engagement, changed her name, and fled to Shanghai where she embraced the anarchist movement. The loss of her brother and lifelong friend, Wang Jianhong, and the loss of her significant other, Hu Yepin, all threw her into various states of depression, not to mention her own abduction by the Guomindang. Nevertheless, Ding Ling wrote her way out of despair and into the public limelight. Her first collection of short stories, In the Darkness, made her famous because of its profound grasp of feminine psychology and its daring treatment of human sexuality. But when Ding Ling attempted to dispel the darkness in Yan'an, she, like everyone else, was told by Mao in his famous Talks to focus on the light. Ding Ling made all the necessary adjustments, literary and political. She survived the rectification campaign and mastered proletarian fiction. Mao loved her novel The Sun Shines on the Sanggan so much that he ranked her third among contemporaries. Soon, she was traveling to Eastern Europe and to Moscow where she consulted with Soviet notables. With the founding of the People's Republic, it appeared her star was on the rise. This study of Ding Ling and China's literary environment in the first half of the 20th century will be useful to scholars and students of contemporary Chinese history, literature, and women's studies.

Buy Dr. Weil's Book instead.......2007-07-17

I really like Joy Bauer. She is personable and tolls out sensible and realistic advice on the Today Show, however her book is very dissapointing. The menus provided are dull and without imagination. The "fun" foods as she calls them (the 10% part of her diet) are simply the saved calories from a spartan menu. Spend your money on Dr. Weil's first book(s). You'll actually enjoy the menus and learn about how to change your lifestyle to be healthier.

Scientifically Designed?.......2007-03-26

Don't waste your time or money on this one. "Scientifically designed" should imply the following: documented case studies, control groups, statistical analysis of the data (to support the 90/10 theory) followed by peer review in scientific journals. There is no evidence of "scientific design" present in this book. Unfortunately, this becomes one of the fad diets the author warns us about. In fact, she even cautions the reader about trans fats, only to condone eating foods that are notoriously loaded with trans fats (not all of us live in New York where trans fat are prohibited in restaurants). I will probably regret giving this book even one star because, although obviously an intelligent lady, the author is nevertheless naive and irresponsible with her unsubstantiated diet advice. "Fun Foods"? Give me a break! This means that it's okay to intermittently eat nutritionally deficient "junk foods" for well over a month throughout your year (10% of the time).

I have lost 30 lbs in 5 months. I love this plan. I especially like that I didn't have to give up anything to be successful. I still get my pasta, chocolate, breads etc. The 90/10 plan made it possible for me to analyze more carefully the amount of calories I was consuming per day.

I also love the cookbook. I'm ready for a new book though. I can't get enough.

I love this book! It is such a well-rounded approach to eating with delicious, healthy meals for 90% of the time and anything you want for 10% of the time! There are several different calorie options, and all of the recipies I have tried so far are delicious!

Great Start - Need to Get Cookbook Too! .......2006-03-05

The book is an excellent resource, but there are only 14 days of meal plans. There is a 90/10 cookbook, I strongly recommend getting that as well so that you don't become bored. It is great to be able to eat sweets without feeling guilty. If you tend to be a compulsive eater, this may not be the plan for you.

This translation of a classic of French literature captures in a hundred pages the essence of French Cuisine. Chapter 4 gets to the heart of what August Escoffier once said, "The simple foods are the best." If this book doesn't make you want to drop everything and visit France, nothing will.

Fascinating, beautiful book.......2004-08-03

Because they avoid humans, it's very hard to observe wolf behavior in the wild. Mech managed to do it at a remote site in the arctic. Some of his observations confirm the conventional wisdom, others do not. This makes his book a must for those interested in real wolves as opposed to mythologized wolves or the semi-domesticated wolves in wolf parks. The book is also full of gorgeous, full-color pictures.

My two toddlers won't eat 95% of the stuff in this book. If you have a picky eater, this book may or may not be helpful. For the parent who wants fun recipe ideas for kids who are not very picky, this book is worth a try.

A step beyond the PBJ.......2003-01-26

This is a good cookbook. There is a lot of variety, all recipes are simple to follow. No special tools or ingrediants are required. Most are easy enough for the kids to do. There is even a section about foriegn foods with a few international recipes. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking to add a little variety in what their kids eat.

frankly, i was a bit surprised to read the negative reviews for this book! out of 365 recipes, of course you're not going to like every single one of them. my kids DO love fish and vegetables, and sheila ellison gives me plenty of different, fun ways to prepare healthy meals for them in this book (as well as many other kinds of food, of course). many of the recipes are ideal for the kids to participate in cooking them, as well. get your kids to try something new! i love the fact that the book contains recipes i'll actually eat with my kids, and i can feel good about serving a family meal that is enjoyable and healthy. not to mention the book contains the best chocolate chip cookie recipe on the planet (and my kids will attest to that!)...

Not what I had hoped for.......2001-02-01

There are some good recipes in this book. Unfortunately, you have to hunt them up, because there are also a number that caused my husband to go "YUK" louder than my kids. Some of the recipes are just plain weird. Pancake Soup? Carrot Mushroom Loaf? It's also not terribly well organized and too tightly bound, so the recipes I do like are frequently hard to find, and when I do find them, I can't get the book to stay open to read them. I would recommend First Meals by Annabel Karmel as a good alternative, particularly for people with younger kids.

Practical recipes that are delicious for kids and parents alike. Ingredients are common and easy-to-find. Wide variety of recipes, from down-to-earth standby's to fanciful concoctions! I found this book at the library, and have used it several times a week since! My husband loves it too.
