Book Description
Wildflowers of Mammoth Cave National Park provides an in-depth field guide to 400 wildflowers found along the trails and roads within the park, nearly all of them species found throughout Kentucky and in neighboring states. Each wildflower is represented by a brilliant full-color photograph and accompanied by a text that identifies its characteristics: colors, floral and leaf forms, flowering time, and native or introduced status, as well as the plant's folklore, past herbal or medicinal use, and myriad other myths and historical facts. For those enthusiasts eager to search for new discoveries, the appendixes provide tables showing the observed flowering period, a flower hunting planning guide, and an index of flowers by trail.

Amazing Journeys.......2005-09-09
Reading Amazing Journeys Following in History's Footsteps has been a remarkable experience. The book is a wonderful tribute to epic heroes which young and old will enjoy. The book, though nonfiction, captivates the reader from the beginning as one is transformed into another time period and taken on an adventure. The amazing journeys of Marco Polo, Mallory and Irvine, Sir Francis Drake, Lewis and Clark, and Amelia Earhart are unraveled with astounding information revealed. History unfolds differently than what one may be accustomed too or may be presented with in other historical texts. Get the latest accounts of experiences of some well known heroes from the past. Ian Young has crafted this book in a manner that will enhance the learning of any young student. The book is a fun read and will entice early readers to seek informational books regularly.

Book Description
Thanks to its Viking heritage and strong historical links with Britain since 1066, Normandy is one of the French provinces that is most accessible to British students. Although the cultural unity of Normandy has survived into the modern era, politically it is now less easy to speak of a united province. Normandy now consists of two separate regions on the administrative map of modern France, Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie. Nevertheless, while still deriving much of its economic strength from traditional sources such as maritime trade, Normandy as a whole is increasingly in a position to exploit its proximity to Paris and European centres of decision making and economic power. It contains chapters on the history, identity, economy, politics and culture of the region, as well as its relationship with the rest of France.
Book Description
In the middle of the night, Tuan Ngo and his father fled their home in war-torn Vietnam. But slipping away on a tiny boat was only the beginning of this young boy's long journey to freedom. Leaving Vietnam is the true story of Tuan's escape, a first-person telling of his experience as a boat boy and refugee.
Customer Reviews:
Refugee story........2001-12-28
I am excited to read this to my Vietnamese students and my other refugee students. I hope that they can form a common bond. Many of my Vietnamese students have entered the United States in less dangerous times as immigrants. Parents and relatives experienced the terror of Communist Vietnam and of the war. Several of my other students experienced terrible times in their countries. We can use the book as a discussion tool.

Customer Reviews:
A solid text, and a lot of value for the price.......2006-08-30
It's hard to find a book that gives solid information on these popular serpents. As pets, the garter and ribbon snakes are very common in Europe, a little less-so here in America, but they are still widely kept. The only other texts I know of that deal with these snakes are either outdated or terribly off-target (i.e., they spend more time discussing broad snake-related matters and less time dealing with ribbon & garter snake specifics). Dick Bartlett writes a good book on these snakes, but Philip Purser's is far superior, in my opinion. I've kept these snakes (various species) off and on through the years, and this book answers so many of the questions/issues that arose during my snake-keeping exploits. I wish it existed years ago. Definitely a soild investment for anyone interested in knowing more about these demure little serpents and their care in captivity.
Product Description
These closely related nonvenomous snakes are found in the wild throughout most of North America. Here is detailed advice on identification, care, and breeding. Books in this series give hobbyists basic information on reptiles' anatomy, life cycles, and traits, as well as specific instructions on care and breeding. There is expert information on selecting good specimens, determining sex, providing proper caging, nutritious feeding, and health care. All books are heavily illustrated with full-color photos. Paperback / 48 Pages / 5 5/8 x 8 3/16 / 2001
Customer Reviews:
Very good basic information on garter snake care.......2001-11-07
A book on the captive care of garter snakes for beginners has been badly needed for quite some time, and this excellent little book fills that need very nicely indeed. While it does not provide the level of information that serious garter snake hobbyists would like, and could be more precise in terms of diet and the unique requirements of some species, that sort of detail would be inappropriate in a beginner's guide like this one. It sets out the basic requirements (feeding, caging, health) that any snake keeper just starting out is going to need to know. I breed garter snakes myself and am very happy that I can now refer my customers, particularly the younger ones, to a book that answers so many of their questions.
Book Description
Daniel Urban Kiley is generally considered to be America's foremost postwar landscape architect. Yet the work from the first two decades of his career is little known, despite both its inherent interest and its importance as a testing ground for his well-known later work.
?This book focuses on Kiley's most provocative projects from 1940 to 1960. Contributors present analytical investigations of Kiley's rarely studied early housing projects and garden prototypes, his garden plans for the Hollin Hills subdivision in Washington, and, in new ways, his best-known work, the Irwin Miller Garden.
Customer Reviews:
good but not enough.......2002-03-26
this book is good, but i need to know about all of his other works. it stops at the miller house. he has done so much more then that.

Customer Reviews:
From the jacket by Sebastioa Salgado.......1996-12-06
"I believe we, reportage photographers of the human condition, have a moral duty to get as close as we can to the people we photograph and to draw attention to all the dignity in the world, as Nubar Alexanian has managed to do so well in this book. It gave me immense pleasure to see my Latin-American people portrayed with so much tenderness."
from the book jacket,by Peruvian novelist Mario Vargas Llosa.......1996-12-06
"...an authentic expression of our geography and our people making at the same time a personal statement which is artistically original and morally compelling."
The British Bulletin of Publications.......1996-12-06
"Anyone thinking of going to Peru or, for that matter any Andean Republic, on a photographic assignment should study this author and photographer's work with great care. He demonstrates great empathy with the people he photographs--his main subject-matter. The photographer should be heartily congratulated for his exceptional ability to study and understand his subject-matter, achieve spontaneity and yet at the same time maintain high standards of composition and outstanding technical quality."
ASMP Bulletin.......1996-12-06
"Alexanian's 56 photographs, many of them double-page spreads, are simple, powerful, and reveal the dignity of a people coping with life under difficult conditions. His concise introduction is complemented by the poem of Jose Maria Arguedas (1911-69) which creates a powerful tension between the old and the modern in Peru."
The Boston Globe by Mark Wilson.......1996-12-06
"For the lover of peopled enigmas and tonally rich photos splashed big across two pages, this book is a find, a breath of contemplative art in a fast-forward video world. Alexanian's pictures are metaphors. Read them like poems."
