Best Washington State Travel Book.......2004-11-11

[...] One of my computer-side companions has been Hidden Pacific NW and now Hidden Washington. I've seen a lot of the state and know Eric Lucas knows Washington, so his book is a great reference when needed. What I really like is his "hidden" finds at different places. If you want a book that portrays a true picture of what you might find in Washington and is easy to use, Lucas's book fits the bill. I would recommend it for all visitors and newcomers to the state.

Don't be without this book!.......2000-06-29

This book is excellent in teaching you how to train your dog in a loving manner that earns the respect of the dog. It is one that you can read and say; that is easy enough, I can do that! This book explains not only what to do but why you need to do it that way, helping you understand the way your dog thinks and therefore, how to teach your dog in a way that he can understand what you are asking of him. After ordering one book for myself, I am back to order more of this title to send home with the pups I have to be sold soon. I feel I can really insure a better chance for a happy new life for these pups by sending this book home with each new owner!

Discriptive, humane, and logical ways to train your dog........1999-08-14

This book is a book for anyone who wants a great, loving dog, that is well trained. It explained how to teach your dog the easiest of tasks, like the sit, come, stay, and many more. One option this book had that many other dog training books don't have is a complete chapter on what to play with your dog, and an advanced training section. If you want a dog, that is reliable, good, and intelligent this book is great to read. I did find some of the ways to train your dog physcological, but in the end, it made a ton of sense, and made you think, "Why didn't I think of that?" The illistrations also made it even more understanding, because they showed you what the book ment if you didn't quite understand a segment. Truly, this book is an excellent book.

excellent book on house manners for dogs.......1998-12-01

A wonderful book on teaching basic house manners to your dog. I liked it as it was written very simply and could be understood by everyone. This is an excellent resource for breeders to include in puppy packets. Plus the drawings are extremely cute.

As a long time fan of impressionist art, Claude Monet and gardening, I found this book very informative. The setting is Monet's former home just outside Paris, France. The book details how the grounds were renovated under Monet's direction and how upkeep continues on the grounds today. Many of the settings such as the Lilly Pond are pictured and described in detail. This book is well worth the purchase price for Monet fans.

Best if you have some sewing experience.......2002-01-27

I sewed my first duvet cover last summer and ran into a few problems. The book I was using advised me to make the duvet a bit smaller than the comforter so it would be full and fluffy - not a good idea! Lumpy is a better way to describe the result. So when I picked up Carol's book, I looked first to see what she advised (same size). This gave me faith that her other ideas would work well.
Carol's approach is playful and fun, suggesting that you use different but coordinating fabrics to cover each hard-backed chair in a dining room, or sew panels to hang around your bed. The projects cover a broad range from duvet covers to a variety of pillows to curtains and lamp shades, plus slip covers for futons and even wing chairs.
I didn't give this book a five because some of the pictures felt dated - it's always wonderful to be able to luxuriate in beautiful pictures - plus some of the instructions assume more knowledge than some people may have.
For example, when fitting pieces to the wing chair, she advises the reader to use darts or tucks where appropriate. Oh, really. Nothing more to say on that? I checked the basic sewing guide at the beginning of the book. No mention there of darts or tucks. Nor do these two terms appear in the cursory one page index. I have personally sewn a few darts in my life, so I'm sure I could figure this out assuming I get my hands on a nice affordable wing chair in need of covering, but some readers may need to have a general sewing reference book on hand to help out with the details of technique.
Still, anyone with a minimal amount of sewing experience should get his or her money's worth out of this book, and be pleased with what they create for their home.

Truely a Plea for Your Money.......2007-01-19

I was completely dissapointed in this book. On the pro side: it has a lot of pretty pictures and is hardbound. That is about it. It has no technical merit, nor is there any organization to it. It is simply a mosaic of photographs many of which are subjective as to whether they are truley paleo or not, and they do not represent all paleo tools equally. You will have to work to find examples of redstones here. It may be suitable as a coffee table nicknack, but as a reference or good read....Zzzzzz.

An excellent resource.......2006-08-31

Once the reader is able to get by the occasional editorial oversight, any serious student, artifact collector or just someone interested in Paleo-Indian/Native American artifacts will find this book an excellent and most enjoyable resource. It is both easy to read as well as full of pictures of these hard to find artifacts. Beautifully photographed...that in itself makes it worth sitting down and enjoying.

Mistakes.......2006-02-07

As previous critiquer noted there is an error in the book RIGHT OFF THE BAT! Could ANYONE have proofread this and missed it? It made me not trust the rest of the book, valid as it might be.

Beautiful, but flawed.......2006-01-11

This is a BEAUTIFUL book, and well-worth the relatively low Amazon price. However, there are some flaws in it, which might make its usefulness a tad questionable to serious students of Paleo-Indian artifact values and identities. Several pictures are incorrectly ID'ed (see page 6 and 7...the same picture is used for a fluted point and a clovis point. The same thing happens on page 97. This is probably the result of carelessness on the part of the type/image setter, not the author, but it does make one wonder. The images are spectacular (and I'd give my eye-teeth to find any ONE of them), so ignore my carping and purchase this book. It is huge and loaded with full-color photos of points and tools that will make your mouth water. I want to go to Ohio and hunt for artifacts!

Paleo artifacts.......2005-07-28

Covers all classifications of Paleo, transitional paleo and related tools. Not enough western stuff for me. Hundreds of great pics, I have not counted, maybe a thousand. More clovis than you can shake a stick at. Very very few obvious fakes.
Well worth the little bit of money. Gives history when available, CoA's issused, auction prices when applicable. Best book out there for Paleo.

Outstanding memoir of sound recording.......1999-08-22

How sound recording evolved through the life of the person who was there from the beginning and into the first l.p.'s. The mechanical changes are here, but more importantly how the disc established itself as a medium for the reproduction of great music. Fred Gaisberg was the person at EMI who recruited the great talent, produced or oversw all of the productions, starting with Caruso, and formed a symbiotic and sympathetic relationship that eased their suspicions and got the best out of them. He traveled all over the world through war and pestilence to cut records and recruit talent. The anecdotes of Melba, Chaliapin, Tetrazzini, Caruso, John McCormack, and especially Elgar. Insights into the production of the unforgettable Schnabel Beethoven Sonata series, and many other of the great recordings. From the very beginning Gaisberg saw that recording could create musical reputations, and he had an unerring eye for talent. Moore has recreated a wonderful piece of history. Reads beautifully. Good illustrations.

Somewhat sparse but enjoyable.......2005-02-10

As far as Holocaust stories go, Sonia's is fairly short and interspersed with poetry rather than presenting the full facts and memories. The book is more appropriate for a younger audience, though mature readers may appreciate the simply-worded poetry as well. I had the privilege of meeting Sonia in 2001 through a small inter-faith dialogue group and enjoyed hearing her story in her own words.

THERE IS ONLY A RELATIVE HANDFUL OF HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS STILL ALIVE, AND I WISH THEY WOULD RECORD THEIR STORY AS SONIA WEITZ DID, AS A WAY OF MAKING SURE THE HOLOCAUST IS NOT FORGOTTEN. IT ALSO DETAILS HOW A PERSON CAN LIVE THROUGH THE MOST INHUMANE INCIDENT IN RECORDED HISTORY, AND GROW OUT OF IT WITH A SENSE OF DETERMINATION, WARMTH AND LOVE. IT SHOULD BE ON THE SHELVES OF EVERY PUBLIC AND SCHOOL LIBRARY IN THE NATION.

i read this book in my reading class just recently and i thought it told a tragic story about how the life of a innocent girl can change within a instant.....it tells us how lucky we are today that we dont have to worry about these things. please read this book....this will be a story that you will never forget...

An Amazing Story of a Holocaust Survivor.......2001-05-23

This incredible and devestating tale of Sonia Weitz and her family depicted the horror of the Holocaust and what it was really like for the Jewish population in Europe. I thought this book was very well written and the poetry all brought insight to what was happening back then.

It was ok, but kinda boring. I thought it was also pretty good cuz it was emotional and helped understand the Holocaust.
