WONDERFUL GUIDE.......2006-05-24

I've used the "Hidden" books for the past number of years while making my way though the southwest. This one is just as great as the others. VERY helpful and accurate. I recommend this book to all seeking adventure in Arizona!!

The only things hidden in this book are the few-and-far-between listings for places that can't already be found in the AAA Tour Book. The layout and verbiage are bit more friendly but all in all, I found this guide book to be long on pat advice, (I.E. "Carry extra water when traveling in the desert") and short on usefull tips and interesting destinations.
Not bad if you aren't a AAA member or can't borrow the Arizona Tour book from one, but definitely far below my expectations.
This will be the first book I've ever returned for credit.

Fishcbeck's Guide to Politics 2000 is informative and intelligent. The author is able to give the reader a crash course in what to look for in a candidate beyond the media images and partisan propaganda. I recommend it for anyone who seriously wants to make a right decision in the 2000 Campaign!

With the networks spending so much time on so few candidates, I was glad to finally find a resource that covered everyone running for President. I was shocked to learn that there were more than two candidates running in the Democrat Primary and more than three parties nominating Presidential candidates. Comprehensive on the subject.......1998-02-01

The author does an excellent job of covering the subject of the matchsafe by discussing the major types that exist and then by illustrating (through several thousand crisp colorful photos) more matchsafes than one could hope to see in a lifetime. The book is arranged by collecting area and is a virtual handbook for the matchsafe collector. Price ranges are given as well, to give the new collector a basic understanding of the relative values.

Mr. McMains has created yet another fantastic book for "Dog People". This book is specifically geared toward those individuals like myself, who teach classes and seminars on obedience. If you are new to the world of training dogs, this book although still useful, may a bit over your head. However, I highly recommend this book to anyone who has the good fortune to be in our fabulous profession.

Excellent Resource for sending gifts and flowers.......1998-10-28

I used the first edition of this book for many years. I found her comments to be accurate and her recommendations to beat FTD by miles. I have used this book to send flowers all over the US. Each and every time I use someone she recommends I get a call back asking,"How did you find such a beautiful florist?". I am looking for the updated editon, as some of the people she knew in 1989 have gone out of business. I am looking forward to an expanded and updated list, as I'm betting that many more cities are covered.

Meng Hao-jan (689â€“740 C.E.) is generally considered to be one of China's most important poets, but there has never been an edition of his work in English. Ch'an (Zen) Buddhism was coming to maturity and becoming widely practiced among the intelligentsia of China. Ch'an not only clarified anew the spiritual ecology of early Taoist thought, it also emphasized the old Taoist idea that deep understanding lies beyond words. In poetry, this gave rise to a much more distilled language, especially in its concise imagism, which opened new inner depths, nonverbal insights, and outright enigma. It was in the work of Meng Hao-jan that this poetic revolution began, a revolution that marked the beginning of Chinese poetry's first great flowering. He opened the poetic ground that would be cultivated so productively by the great poets that followed, and he was revered by those poets as their esteemed elder, first master of the short imagistic landscape poem.

David Hinton's (Translator) many translations of ancient Chinese poetry have earned wide acclaim for creating compelling contemporary poetry. He is also the first translator in over a century to translate the four original masterworks of Chinese philosophy: Tao Te Ching, Chuang Tzu, Analects, and Mencius. He has held numerous fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts and The -National Endowment for the Humanities. And in 1997, his work was awarded the Landon Translation Award from the Academy of American Poets. He lives in East Calais, Vermont.

Wonderful Poetry with Some translation issues.......2007-01-10

The insights and zen in these poems is very subtle and deep and anybody interested in the inner soul would get a great experience out of this book. The more study you have done the more you would get out of this. If you have no previous zen experience this is a lovely book of nature, kindness, sadness and friends.

The translation which, I assume by his background, is well done, leaves one guessing as he finishes sentences at the start of a new line and uses unusual phrases to substitute for the chinese poetry.

I am delighted to have this book in my collection and it will be one I will pick up and read over and over.
