What a help!!.......2005-01-21

Went to France last year with a few guides and books, and this was by FAR the most helpful. I am also a very visual learner, so the section with what signs look like for pharmacies, tabac's, etc. was fabulous. It's dog-eared and worn, but I'm going back to Paris this year and wouldn't think of leaving it behind.

Midwestern Alphabet Book Collector Loves the Atlantic Ocean.......2005-02-19

I am an alphabet book collector who grew up in the midwest. But, twenty years ago I went on a tall mast ship cruise off the cost of Maine and fell in love with the eastern seaboard. This alphabet book captures the joy, pensiveness, intrigue, beauty, and attraction of the Atlantic Ocean and its "adventures." As Papa Gull said to his young offspring, "The Atlantic is mother to us all. . . . Appreciate who you are." And so begins a lyric tale about a gull family and its journey along a seaboard and through the alphabet.

As alphabet books go, this one is 3 standard deviations above the mean. It tells a story. It develops sophisticated vocabulary (with a glossary, I might add). And, it captures the joyful journeys of any family. In this case, it was gulls.

I might quibble with the letter "n" and its illustration of only Caucasian children. All children might love gulls and the shoreline. But, for the joy of a trek and story along the shore, this one is hard to beat.

Share it with your children, regardless of where you live.

Being a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, I couldnýt resist buying ýThe Gullýs Storyý for my two daughters, ages 4 and 7. My little one spotted this book first because of the beautiful illustrations of the various birds and animals, but I have to admit, I was curious myself as to how this book would read and represent the shore area to others. We loved it so much, I was forced to buy another so each of my daughters could keep one for their own. For anyone who hasnýt read this book with their children, its a beautifully written book about the life of a seagull and his creature friends who live on the Jersey Shore .. perfect book to read before bedtime. Another book we recommend (also illustrated by Margie Moore) is ýThe Little Brown Bear ý Count the Ways,ý a favorite especially for my 4 year old since she is still learning her numbers and letters. You will believe the animals in these stories are real by the way Ms. Moore brings out each of their little personalities. I believe this illustrator is a genius in her field of art and her talent of depicting the lives of the creatures in each story told. ýThe Gull Storyý is a ýmust haveý book for any child whether you live on the shore or not.

I found this book to be very helpful in placing value and making new purchases. The only problem I have is that is outdated. We are going into the year 2000 and there has not been a 1999 version published yet.

Good, but could be improved!.......1999-05-01

The book is an excellent source of information about Charming Tails. The only problem is that there needs to be a different value shown for pieces that are signed or that do not have boxes. Collectors would then be able to price their pieces more accurately.

If there is a book that details the Marians as regarding their vocation, discipline, and way of life; Enfleshing the Word is it.

I became familiar with Marianist Spirituality through the Anglican Society of Mary and went seeking what I could find about the Original Order. Upon my journey, I found this most enlightening book.

Written by Bros. Enrique Aguilera, SM and Jose Maria Arnaiz, SM; it introduces the reader to the distinct place and priority of prayer in the life of the Order.

Prayer is central to Christian faith and practice; here the reader will discover a way and means to praying that might at first blush seem unnatural, especial to protestant or uninformed catholics.

The book takes us through the Founders' understanding of the need for such a practice of prayer and narrows it down to 'The Marianist Journey' and The Reason for a Program, Listening to the Call, and Setting out on the Journey are covered in part one.

Section Two opens with: The Son's Mission

To Be Like Jesus; With The Community; and, Doing Whatever He Tells Us comprise this section, comprising 62 pages.

Section Three icludes chapters encompassing the theme: The Spirit's Call

Living by Faith, and Together with Mary comprise this section of 47 pages and take us deeper into understanding the charism of this pariticular Order.

The book concludes with: The Word Enfleshed Bore Fruit and Biblical Refs for all the commentary of the preceeding 296 pages.

Those who have a liturgical background or those who seek a deeper understanding of Marian spirituality will appreciate this book. Those who are delving deeper into (unfamiliar?) prayer forms will appreciate this book.

It is, however, best suited for the aspirant to religious orders and the devout laymen of the RCC tradition.
