Whereever your travels may bring you these series of books are the BEST travel books of all. They always have great suggestions of places to visit and are full of pictures too! I can't wait to use mine in Prague later this year!

all in one guide....a must have for geting the most out of a tour. You will be able to see the important items in your tour

5 out of 5 stars Great Guide for Sightseeing.......2007-04-30

This is the one guide seen by far the most often in Prague. While it should drop the pretension of providing general information, it is by far the best guide available for getting out and seeing Prague.

Other than wasting space on hotels, my complaints are: 1) It fails to mention admission fees. For example there is a fee to see almost everything in both the Palace and the Jewish Quarter. This becomes obvuious early enough in the Palace but you can wander around most of the Jewish Quarter before realizing that you could simple buy one relatively expensive ticket, 2) It fails to tell where you really should spend your time despite being the best describer of detail - for example it should tell you that they have already largely destroyed what character is left in the Jewish Quarter (Hotel Intercontinental!?) and they are working on destroying the rest, and 3) The maps could be better.

With the Time Out guide for everything else and the Streetwise map this book will equip you well for your Prague visit.

5 out of 5 stars Best way to LEARN and TOUR Prague.......2007-04-26

I went to Prague to visit a friend of mine who has been working/ living there for a year, and WE BOTH learned so much while toting this book. Great detail was given to explaining and describing the significance, history, and factoids of the most popular places in Prague. It was accurate, up to date, interesting, and well written. The maps are easy to use too. I just purchased a new Eye Witness book for my upcoming trip to Munich. This series is one which I will be sticking with!

5 out of 5 stars Why this guide is the best..........2007-04-16

I used this guide on my recent trip to Prague and after numerous trips to the bookstores, I choose this book for the following reasons:

    1) Large color pictures. Not only great to look at but helpful in identifying buildings that aren't necessarily labeled or labeled in English.

    2) City is divided into sections. MUCH MORE USEFUL when walking around then having attractions listed by type. This just makes planning and improvising much easier.

    3) Great walking tours and itineraries for 1-4 day trips.

Other then that this book is on par with the other heavy hitters in the other major travel guide categories. It goes into depth about Czech history, it has adequate explanations of major attractions, good descriptions of local customs, laws and transportation logistics and is just the right size for day packs.

The only minor drawback is the hotel and restaurant descriptions but with the internet, using a guide book for hotel/hostel booking has become obsolete.

Bottom Line: The price is little higher then average but it's worth it.

3 out of 5 stars Good short list summary for exploring Prague.......2007-06-22

Many of the customer reviews cite how helpful this book is for finding the key spots to visit. It also encapsulates key information you need for navigating the culture and environment. I agree with them on this.

However, because it is organized as a set of top ten lists, it seriously limits the way you get to understand a place. Prague has an incredible history which comes through more thorough texts such as Rick Steve's guide. So having a much more indepth guide is essential. DK's Eyewitness Guide to Prague does do a good job of this but I am not sure you want both books from the same source.

The other limitation of this guide is how disconnected the maps are. You can explore with it but may find something doesn't connect in the book. Rick Steves recommends that you get a separate city map which will allow you to see how everything fits together.

In summary, I recommend this book if you have gotten background info from other sources. It offers some laser point suggestions which provide spot on recommendations for restaurants and the like. If you can afford to carry the larger DK Guide, it provides more and better connected information.

4 out of 5 stars Compact travel guide.......2006-03-01

I had used the top 10 for Amsterdam. I find it easy to carry, to the point, and the maps come in handy.

5 out of 5 stars This is the Only One You Need.......2005-06-13

I like the "Top 10" travel guides because they pack a wealth of useful information, with lots of photos and maps, into a very compact size. The "Top 10 Prague" travel guide is no exception. It is slim enough so that it can easily fit inside a small purse.

As with all the "Top 10" books, this volume provides information in the format of giving ten subsections for different subjects. For example, you have a listing of Prague's top ten "Highlights," followed by lists of the top ten things to see at each of the top ten highlights. Prague Castle, for example, is listed 1st under "Highlights," and then, when you turn the page, you have the "Top 10 Features" of the palace listed, along with a diagram of the palace showing where each feature is located.

This book has subjects like "Top 10 Places of Worship," "Top 10 Museums and Galleries," "Top 10 Parks and Gardens," "Top 10 Performing Arts Venues," "Top 10 Children's Attractions," etc. There are also, of course, top ten listings of restaurants, "bars and kavarnas", clubs, "shops and markets", and the like. This book also has listings of restaurants, cafes, pubs and retail shops for different sections of the city too, so that you can easily find one near your hotel.

At the back of the book is the "Streetsmart" section with its lists under headings such as "Getting to Prague," "Getting Around Prague," "Sources of Information," "Things to Avoid," "Prague on a Budget," etc. There are ten lists of Prague hotels and pensions.

Because of its compact size, great maps and diagrams, and the wealth of useful information on tourist sites, restaurants, shopping, etc., this is the one and only book that I carried around with me while walking through the streets of Prague on my last trip there.

5 out of 5 stars Great Travel Guide, Beautiful Coffee Table Book!.......2002-06-26

    .

    Summary:
Every Dorling Kindersley Guide has been a great and interesting book... and delightful to have and use, even if you are not traveling to that location, but are only interested in learning more!

The Guides are well organized in a logical and easy to follow manner. They are beautifully illustrated, well developed with accurate information (it is unusual for hotel and restaurant information to be that accurate), have enough history to help the reader understand the people and cultural background, and have a lot of useful travel information and useable maps in the appendixes.

The really great attraction to this book is several fold; it is:
    ............Very complete
    ............Easy to read
    ............Beautifully and artistically completed
............Good shopping, safety and other tips
............Gorgeous photographs too numerous to list.

    Specifics:
The guides are organized as follows:

    How to use this guide
Introduction to Historical and Geographical information
    Geographical Regions
    ............Introduction Prague
    ........................Intro to Prague
    ........................History
    ........................Portrait of Prague
    ........................Through the Year (events, holidays)
    ........................A River View of Prague

............Prague Area by Area, each section includes:
........................Introduction to street by street area
    ........................Detailed pictorials of area buildings

........................Architectural drawings, pictures, cut-aways of buildings
........................Specific stops, historical monuments, churches, buildings, etc.

Travelers Needs - includes full list with rankings and notes
    ............Hotels
    ............Restaurants, cafes, pubs
    ............Shops / Markets
    ............Entertainment

    Survival Information
    ............Practical
........................Tourist info., Etiquete, Personal Security and Health

    ........................Currencies, Telephones, misc info.
    ............Getting to Prague (Travel Information)
    ............Getting Around Prague (Street Maps)

    ............General Index
    ............Phrase Book
    ............Transport Map

    Discussion:
The book begins with "Introducing Prague", including a complete map, a review, the city's history, and Prague thought the Year - including events, etc.

Areas with an "At a glance" overview, then has subsections of specific blocks, or forums, then specific locations, churches, historical monuments, bridges, galleries, etc.

Architectural reviews include various views, and cutaways; given greater understanding and better perspective. They are all attractive, if not works of art - honestly.

The travelers' Info. offers good and valid info. on prices, currencies, customs, important words, etc. I have used the reviews on hotel's restaurants and nightclubs, in most European cities, and Dorling has yet to disappoint me. I have found they were useful and accurate, and helpful with my touring and site decisions.

The books are so well thought-out that it has multiple maps, with various lookup tables, and the book's flaps are designed to be used as bookmarks for map pages.

    Conclusion:
Each book in this series is a great help, and beautiful collectible resource. As the President, CEO of an International Meeting Planning Corporation we have many resources and techniques to learn about places we have meetings / groups at as well as the cities and sights. But, as a traveler, this book really is top notch and I would recommend it to anyone going on a personal trip, or wanting to learn about a city, or location. We have used some of these books to augment our research to investigate cities for our groups.

4 out of 5 stars Armchair travel plus.......2002-05-30

The Eyewitness Travel series serves as a great visual introduction to a place. It allows you to "see" what places are like and plan your trip accordingly. The maps are usually great and the flaps of the book are constructed to serve as place markers. I bought this book after spending several months living in Prague after college. I had no money and didn't take many photos while I was there; I use this book to bring back memories. I now buy these books whenever there is one for my destination (I even have the one for my current home town).

I wouldn't recommend the book as the soul guide for a budget traveller or someone who wants more than a one-page history on things. Yes, buy the book to plan places and sites to visit, but consult another source for cheap eats/accommodations (there is a selection of these) or detailed historical information.

Of all the guidebooks that I've used, the DK Eyewitness Guides are my favorite. Their format provides fast reference for those unplanned trips yet they have enough depth for you to get a solid feel for the culture and history of the place you're visiting.

With the Prague guide, they scored another clear winner. There are easy to follow maps, great transport guides, and lots of the interesting details that make you feel like an insider has shared their view of the city with you. I especially like the way they break the city up into sections to let you have a manageable piece of real estate around which you can get your hands. It was very easy for my family to go through the sections and pick out our own "must see" locations and then plan our touring. We were only in Prague for 3 days, but the DK Eyewitness guide let us make the absolute most of it.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for Prague.......2006-12-17

This is a great guide for taking with you as you walk around the city. When I first moved to Prague this was my day to day guide for getting around the city. Excellent subway and street map in the back. I highly recommend for planning trips using a bigger guide but this is the one you want to carry around with you when you see the city. Good recommendations on restaurants and sights.

5 out of 5 stars This Is the One!.......2003-11-29

My wife and I have visited Prague twice before in the last ten years, so we have collected just about all the major Prague tourist guides. We are planning another trip for next month, so I picked up this new little guide. It has become my favorite. The "Top Ten" format works really well, and this author knows the territory really well, too. Also, I'm simply amazed at how much information (including good tips) he packed into this slim volume. I'm a big fan of the full-sized DK Eyewitness Travel Guides (which are beautiful and interesting), the Michelin Green Guides (which are so well-written and go into more depth), and the Frommer guides (which embody our travel philosophy so well)--but this Top Ten Guide is the one that I intend to carry in my jacket pocket every day as we travel around the city: It's like having an expert checklist--that includes things that we missed on our previous trips. We have the London Top Ten guide, and were impressed with that one, too. By the way, you're going to love Prague. We lived in Paris for six months, and have travelled to most of the countries and major cities of Europe; Prague is wonderful, and our personal favorite. See you there!

          Book Description

This is the one book that every dog owner should have on the shelf. It's a comprehensive "How To" resource that offers you proven solutions to specific pet behavior problems. From agression to housebreaking, from chewing to chasing...and everything in between. And along the way, the book never forgets the pet's perspective or the master's role in the relationship. But "Tricks I Taught My Master" is so much more than a reference manual; it's a repository of wit and wisdom from one of the world's leading animal behaviorists, Dr. Robert M. Andrysco. Topics are presented with warmth and humor. Anecdotes and real life examples illustrate his points. This is a book you'll enjoy reading from cover to cover.

          Customer Reviews:

          5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK!!.......2004-03-01

The first person I called was "Uncle Mattie" from PBS after my American Eskimo bit my friend. He told me that if I didn't send my dog out to California to be "reconditioned" by him and his staff that I might as well put my dog to sleep. When I told him I couldn't do either of those things, Good old "Uncle Mattie" continued to berate me and yell at me over the phone for another 20 minutes until I was hysterically crying in my office.

Then I got Dr. Robert Andrysco's name from my vet and MY GOSH! it was like day and night. Dr. Bob came over to our house, worked with me and my dog and diagnosed my dog with Confusion Aggression (my dog is afraid of everything and lashes out instead of running).

We've been working with Dr. Bob for about 8 months and he's an excellent trainer. My dog has shown incredible progress and our life has totally changed. I've learned so much from Dr. Bob and his book that his is the only book I refer to now for dog behavior and training.

I'm not sure what that reviewer's problem is that gave the book only one star. Dr. Andrysco definitely does not use dominant techniques. As a matter of fact, there have been several instances where we've let my dog "win" with certain issues in order to control more pressing aggressive behaviors. Dr. Andrysco teaches you how to live with your pets, not dominate them. Another positive training technique Dr. Bob has uses is food rewards if your dog is one that responds to this.

I recommend this book for any dog owner, not just owners that have problems. It's a fun read too.

5 out of 5 stars Tricks I Taught My Master.......2003-03-19

"Tricks I Taught My Master" is a book I often prescribe to my clients to prevent and treat behavioral issues. As a veterianrian, I find poorly responsive behavioral problems motivate pet owners to prematurely consider euthanasia. I feel it will help save pets' lives because the book is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to carry out the recomendations. Dr. Bob Andrysco's vast experience of working with pets and veterinarians make this a valuable reference for all dog owners.

5 out of 5 stars Separation Anxiety Answers.......2003-03-10

I turned to Dr. Andrysco's book after my eight year old greyhound began to exhibit severe separation anxiety. This book is a quick read with many practical and easy to implement tips that really make a difference. I am glad to say the my dog is feeling much much better. Great book.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT TRAINING BOOK!.......2003-02-28

My dogs are really coming along! Let me say that Dr. Andrysco's book is so right on. I have nine dogs, and I know first hand that you HAVE to be the alpha "dog" with your pet or they'll walk all over you. I've been employing Dr. Andrysco's techniques for several weeks now and my dogs are starting to behave much better. They don't fear me, they just know I'm the boss and they must behave. They're very happy and display a great wish to please me. I am not feared at all, I am respected. I've tried reasoning, treat rewards, and only praise techniques, and none of those methods were successful. Dr. Andrysco's techniques REALLY work. If you are looking for a pet book that tells you what you need to do to get excellent behavior results, then get buy this one. Thanks, Dr. Andrysco!

This is one book that I keep in my library along with other reference books. The first time I read it, I was sold by the common sense techniques, the humor, the real life examples and the viewpoints from both the owner's and the animal's perspective. I used several techniques in the book to correct problems with an 11 year old Dalmatian. When he passed away and we adopted a 2 year old mix of Bull Mastif and Chocolate Lab, I again pulled it from the shelf to correct minor problems with our new house mate. We happen to take our new dog to Dog Care 3 days a week since we both work, and regularly the Dog Care owners comment on how well behaved, loving and responsive our dog is to them and how socially adjusted he is with not only humans but other dogs. I continually pass my copy along to friends who are first time dog owners. They ultimately end up purchasing their own copy because they find the author's techniques easy to follow with immediate results. Just like raising kids, parents often forget that being a parent and having rules and guidelines is the most important thing we can do to help our children into healthy individuals. Too often people want to be a friend to their children rather than a parent and this is where the behavior problems start. The same holds true with your pet - yes, you can certainly be their friend, best buddy or whatever, but you also have to be their disciplinarian to make the mix work and to make your pet happy and healthy. This book definitely provides the owner with the techniques to do just that. Bravo to Dr. Andrysco and his book "Tricks I Taught My Master".

                    Book Description

Exploring Garden Style takes a commonsense approach to an often daunting subject: how to create a garden based on a particular theme, style, or need. From kitchen gardens to tropical gardens, sound ideas are combined with inspiring prose to motivate any gardener. Included is "Going Native" by Andy Wasowski, a look at the joys of creating a landscape that nurtures both indigenous wildlife and the gardener.

5 out of 5 stars Great Gardening Stories.......2006-05-10

Okay, I'm a sucker for gardening stories ... personal experiences of gardener's and their gardens. These are stories of real people and the evolution of their gardens. There are ideas here for everyone with great photos for inspiration and many stories include a layout of the garden. It makes for good browsing to get motivated to get out and work in the dirt to create my own special sanctuary.

5 out of 5 stars Both Attractive and Useful.......2003-11-26

In this book 20 garden designers share ideas and techniques for creating a beautiful garden in a unique style. The book is divided into three parts - Traditional Gardens, Naturalistic Gardens and Specialty gardens. Each part is composed of short, beautifully-illustrated articles written in a very personal style by a gardener, landscape designer or horticulturist.

It is the personal nature of each article that contributes most to the appeal of this book. Take the opening of Nani Waddoups article titled "Tropical Garden, Temperate Zone". She writes "The newer parts of our garden look a little out of place..." How can you resist an opening like that? Her article describing her garden - listed in the Smithsonian Registry of Gardens - shows how her Hawaiian background prompted her and helped her to develop a lush pseudo-tropical garden in the Pacific Northwest.

My favourite section is that on Naturalistic Gardens. Five writers form points as far apart as Connecticut and Texas share with the reader ways in which they used the local climate, geology, soil and plants to create a garden that has given each of them great pleasure and satisfaction.

Top marks to the Taunton Press for introducing these garden writers first to Fine Gardening magazine and now in book form for those of us who like to sit down and read the whole collection. The editors have put together a book that offers gardeners a diversity of fresh ideas in a most attractive format.

                          Book Description

The year was 1907. The depression left many unemployed and in need. Charles Page, a Tulsa Oil Man, had an idea that would not only create jobs, but rescue widows and orphans from destitution. Many, friends and critics alike, called it "A Fool's Enterprise". “Daddy Page”, as his orphans had named him, called it a dream. This is his story.
