Outstanding guide........2005-10-03

This book has been one of the many reasons I fell in love with Paris.

In fact, it taught me how to explore Paris on my own during the 5 years I lived there. Beginning with this book, I learned how much history and cultural wealth is hidden in every corner of the city, ready to be discovered. I learned to explore the building façades, their inner patios that sometimes hide gardens, statues and even centuries old temples. I have explored parkings for outstanding discoveries (like the medieval wall on the underground parking on rue Mazarine), etc.

I learned enough of the city history to get me curious and start reading on my own about the kings of France, the history of Paris architecture, and so much more.

I have both an older edition and the audio guide, which is excelent for use when walking alone. However, I noticed that on the latest edition, the walk on rue Moufetard is gone (at least that's how it seems from the index here on Amazon"). Pitty, because I loved the region and the walk itself.

The only danger is that if you go to Paris with this book, you may never want to leave again, like I did.

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a much earlier edition of this wonderful little guide to the Paris these authors obviously love. The distaff side of the Landes clan has a keen eye for detail and a sharp nose for the unexpected tidbits that make visiting any city a delight.

Directly as a result of following one of the walks I have found a club that is now, years later, a regular stop anytime I am in Paris. Everyone who has an interest in the quiter, more intimate details of Paris should take these walks. The authors' love of the city and their simple love of city life shines through in each of them.

This latest edition is, if possible, an improvement on the previous ones; adding the perspective of a new co-author has improved the product.

Don't walk Paris without it!.......2000-11-18

This is a terrific "off the beaten path" type tour guide. These tours take you to areas that other tourists just pass through on their way to the Eifel Tower and Louvre. With this book you experience the real Paris, not the tourist's Paris.

At the beginning of each tour (allow one per day), find a bench in one of the many small parks and read the introduction to the tour. While you take in the sights, smells and sounds of the area, you'll learn a bit of history to set the stage for the tour. The walks are slow and intend for you to really look at your surroundings as you read about the history, architecture and people. I wish there were guides like this for every city!

A "Must Have"ÿ.......2000-01-10

I've taken this book to Paris three times. Our local library discarded the book and I was so upset. It's wonderful to use in Paris or to remember my trips. I was so excited to find in newly published. I have already got one, which I passed on to a friend going to Paris, now I'm ordering another.

Fabulous audiotape.......1998-12-14

The Pariswalks audiotape is an immensely entertaining and educational way to wander through Paris neighborhoods. You can, for a change, SEE what the guidebooks are talking about WITHOUT having your nose in the book the whole time. The narration is humorous as well as informative. Because this Pariswalks audiotape is so good,I have given theLondonwalks audiotape on faith for Christmas to someone about to head for London. I will never travel to Europe again without first checking to learn whether an audiotape is available for my destination city.

Great Book.......2007-10-09

This is a Great Book with Great Pictures. It is easy to read and understand. However.. Beware..The other book that Amazon offers, Exotic Shorthair Cat (Popular Cat Library) by Karen Cummings [Library Binding]is the same as this one, the cover is just different. This book is paperback and the other is hardback and the 2 covers have different pictures. I know because I ordered both thinking I was getting 2 different books. Don't make the same mistake I did. It's just a personal preference, paperback or hardback??

Guide to Owning an Exotic Shorthair Cat.......2007-01-15

This is a great book for cat fans, but especially for those who own or enjoy Exotic Shorthairs. The photos are fantastic and are incredibly glossy and colorful. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the printing and the stock that this book is printed on- it made my a great Christmas present for my wife. The reading was entertaining and factual, but the real selling point for this book is the photos.

This book was very helpful as a new owner of an Exotic kitten, especially the sections on grooming and nail clipping. The illustrations were especially helpful and well done. For the price, a very good book.

This is the best book about exotic shorthair cats that I have read. It is very informative, thus allowing the novice to learn all there is to know and detailed enough for the 'expert' exotic cat person to gain knowledge. This book allowed me to learn more that I thought there was to know about exotic cats! Exotic cats are DEFINATELY a top breed! EXCELLENT must have book!

Great Book.......2007-10-09

I got this book prior to our Exotic Shorthair kitten. It has great information, it's easy to read and has Great pictures. Just a word of caution, The Guide to Owning an Exotic Shorthair Cat (The Guide to Owning) by Karen Commings [Paperback] has the same information inside the book, the cover is just different. I know because I ordered both, but I like this one better, it's hardback.

Too simplistic. Too many pictures and not enough information. Even the info given is not detailed enough. Many common household plants mot even listed ex.the snake plant. I purchased this book on the great reviews and this is the first time I'm very disappointed. Trust me and save your money.

A beautiful book for beginners........2003-12-09

Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants is a beautiful book to look at, but it is for the beginner. The "how to" section does go into detail with beautiful pictures showing you each step of the way. The decorating ideas look nice, but it would be more practical if they were silk plants. The placement of the plants is very impractical, either the plants don't get enough light or watering the plants would be a hugh chore.
The Plant Profiles is just an introduction to houseplants. This book is definitely not for the experienced houseplant person who is looking for real information on individual plants. Experienced houseplant people keep looking this book isn't for you.

Must Have Reference Book!.......2003-09-11

I have yet to met someone who wouldn't appreciate a healthy indoor plant. This book is excellent - it's concise, informative and written in a way even the most inexperienced plant owner can understand. It's worth buying just for the pictures alone! Come on, bring nature indoors!

This was a very informative book. I have never been a able to keep a plant alive before. Now people say I have a green thumb.
My home and deck are full of healthy beautiful plants. Every plant,in the book, has a great photo and full discription of light needs and exact fertilizer times and needs. I have had a hard time finding a few of the fertilizers needed, so I may start tring some of the great fertilizer recipes given. Every thing needed is here. How to propigate, transplant, divide. A full list of discriptions of possible plant problems and the solutions. I would suggest this book to anyone as a great resource. As a matter of fact, I've lent it out a few times.(But I make sure to get it bact soon)

Most of us have time for only one thing nowadays, simplicity. This book simplifies caring for house plants. I still cannot find 20-10-10 plant food it recommends [for my aloe plant], but that's a small thing. I'll probably find it online.

An affectionate portrayal of the Navajo community and land........2004-11-27

If you like Mark Klett, then you will like Skeet McAuley. Mark Klett's photography has focused on the deserts of the American Southwest, using techniques such as wry humor and also 1-second exposures to accent the difference between stable and moving objects. In the book being reviewed, Mr.McAuley depicts a Navajo window washer, perched on a stone wall washing windows of the visitor centr at Monument Valley. The camera, situated inside the center, views three majestic buttes, one in each of three windows, a similarly aligned window washer, a sponge pressed against the first window, and the shadow of the sponge residing on the interior ceiling. The window washer wears glasses, is neatly dressed, and has a spiffy "Indian" belt. Perhaps he is the manager of the visitor center, or perhaps he is also the webmaster of the local community. There is no attempt in this, or other photographs, to portray the Navajos as victims of their technological shortcomings, and of the Europeans' overrunning of their land. The three buttes, featured in this picture, are amongst the greatest of our cherished emblems of the American land, along with, e.g., Yosemite Valley, the Grand Canyon, Mt.Rushmore, and Niagara Falls. The vertical motifs of the three buttes, window struts, upright figure of the window washer, and (don't neglect this), the yellow arrow pointing downwards to a dinosaur track, are excellent, and contrast beautifully with the angles of the walls of the visitor center. Another excellent picture features a cattle trap, that array of metal grooves embedded in the road, so familiar to those who drive the backroads of any agricultural community. To the side of the metal cattle trap is a triangular fence post, where the triangular motif of the fence post is mirrored in distant teepees, situated out in the remote desert. Something makes this an even more interesting photo. A sign near the teepees reads, "Going out of business." This is funny. How could there be a business of any kind in this remote wasteland? And so, how could there be any "going out of business" in the remote wasteland!?! Another memorable photograph depicts an ancient Spanish church ruin (ancient by North American standards, anyway), while in the foreground is a modern lawn sprinkler, dispersing an array of dainty spurts of water over the meager, green lawn. This is an amusing contrast, an amusing situation, easily recognizable as "photo-ready" by any amateur with a passing interest in photography. Another subtle picture, also melding ancient motifs with a contemporary addition, is Skeet McAuley's picture of an eroded mesa, taking the form of a repeated array of pointy outcroppings. This pattern, this design, is mirrored by a line of tractor treads, embedded in some foreground soil. Again, most people would not care about this type of photograph, but many amateur (or professional) photographers would stop to take the picture.
