Wonderful and informative.......2007-01-21

I purchased this for my daughter prior to her moving to NYC to attend college. She says this is a great reference that she keeps in her purse at all times.

incredibly easy to use.......2006-05-29

this is so far the easiest travel book i've read. i almost read from the first page to the last without flipping back and forward all the time. it's nicely structured that i didn't spend any time figuring how to read this book as i have to do when reading other travel books. i like the maps with marks of attractions in each area. also, it feels like it is a real person who was writing it. lots of personal, practical opinions. on the other hand, if you want objective perspectives, this is not a book for you. but so far as i found out, all the subjective judgements have been pretty accurate. the only thing i don't really like about the book is it has too much about accommodation and dining, which i found not quite useful for me. overall, it's an excellent book. i highly recommend.

Not enough information in this book.......2004-10-10

The title of this booklet is somewhat misleading. It isn't so much a guide to owning a chow chow as it is an introduction to the breed. There is a very good section on the origin and the history of the breed and there is a decent section on the physical description and characteristics of the show quality purebred chow. The section titled "Living with a Chow" paints a much too rosy picture of the breed. Although the author briefly refers to the chow chow's poor reputation for "sharpness and lack of steady reliability", the author says almost nothing further about the tendencies and characteristics which make chow ownership such a challenge and, subsequently, offers little help by way of behavior modification advice.

Chows are typically strong-willed, powerfully-built dogs who do not readily trust humans. There are a number of factors to be considered before adopting a chow. Because of the breed's reputation for unpredictability, some kennels refuse to board chows and, in some states, chow owners have a difficult time finding homeowner's liability insurance. In general, first time dog owners, families with very small children and people with little time to devote to a pet should be discouraged from owning a chow. Chows are also unusually beautiful and are exceptionally loyal and protective once they bond with a human. Many (but not all) chows are mild-tempered, playful, affectionate and sociable. If you are considering a chow for your household and need more information on the breed, I recommend Beverly Pisano's book, "Chow Chows". It contains much more information than this book and describes methods for curbing an aggressive dog's dominant and threatening behavior.

Must-read for Multi-engine Ops and Training.......2001-07-30

I use the entire "Complete Pilot" series for my students, so this volume completes my library. Comprehensive without being exhaustive, Bob Gardner gives great deference to manufacturers' recommendations while maintaining a common-sense attitude towards standardization (helpful when moving from aircraft to aircraft). Easy to read and understand, "The Complete Multi-Engine Pilot" is great as both a primary text and review material.

Excellent book!.......2000-09-24

I used this book to prepare for my Instument/Multiengine/Commercial check ride and it was extremely useful. This book is easy to read and very informative providing a lot of practical applications as well as theory. This book is essential to your library as an instructor or professional pilot.

Content good, poorly edited.......2000-09-15

The content of this book is good, although in going through the examples and figures I did find missing figures and numbers that didn't match what Mr. Gardner has written in the text. ASA needs to do a better job of editing.

Should be titled Body Shape not Body Image.......2007-03-04

While I really enjoyed the book, I felt it concetrated may too much on issues of thinness and weight. I think the author did a good job of looking at a variety of studies and including both psychological and sociological studies; however, I feel that body image satisfaction and dissatisfaction goes way beyond just looking at body shape. If you're looking to read about body image outside of the 'weight debate' look elsewhere.

Responsible and Fascinating Research Review.......2005-04-11

I am a lay reader. I read few research reviews, but I found this book to be clear and insightful.

The body of studies reviewed seems comprehensive, and the author strikes me as being very fair and responsible in the way she reviews the research. She points out particularly interesting findings as well as places where more research would be helpful. From page 111: "An interesting difference between interviews with men and with women is that adult men tended to see media images as realistic goals. There was a general feeling that they could look like the media images if they wanted to, but that they did not care enough about the way they looked to spend time weight training." Her own voice in the book is not overbearing, and when she does provide her opinion, it is very insightful. She also does a nice job of reporting on literature (not only on studies). The author's own research and interviews are helpful and fill in areas where information may have otherwise gone missing. She provides helpful information about men and body image. She discusses solutions for body dissatisfaction, though not in the same depth as other subjects. I found this book left me with a different and less biased view about bodies and body satisfaction-an impact I wasn't expecting.

a teens guide, not a gentleman's guide.......2004-09-23

this book should be titled "professional appearance for dummies". most of the information is very very basic. remember, this book is only 51 pages all inclusive. in that space, it covers dressing, posture, emailing, eating, etc. not a lot of information on any topic.

on top of that, some of the information is wrong. for instance, the author derates asymmetrical tie knots like the half windsor as unprofessional. this is inaccurate and the half windsor is one of the three most popular tie knots for business. (another - the four in hand - the most common - is also asymmetrical)

if you "don't do nuance" and want a couple of rules to live by - this is your book. alternately, if you are young and need a good introduction, read this. otherwise, its really not worth the money.

Overpriced but good for teens.......2003-10-05

Prior to buying this book, I read a review that said it was too simple for real office professionals but good for teens just entering the workplace as a starter guide. I think that is a good appraisal.

So I bought the book as a gift for a teen just graduating from high school.

As a gift for a teen, I am disappointed with the sketchy, plain cover and the sketch quality of the illustrations.

I am also disappointed that including shipping and handling I paid some $17 or $18 and received a book that looks like I paid $2 for it. Therefore, it is not well suited as a stand-alone gift either. This was not a "good deal."

In spite of it's cheap appearance and thinness, the information inside is good for a first, elementary, book on dress and conduct.

Wax On, Wax Off.......2000-10-05

This book is for a young man who is about to graduate from high school or college. If you are looking for a serious book about men's fashion, I suggest you look elsewhere. Perhaps you may want to look at Josh Karlen's 'Indispensible Guide to Classic Men's Clothing' which I found informative reading in the areas of suits, shirts, and outerwear; or even Tim Meehan's 'Suit Yourself' which I thought was interesting in the areas of "dress" casual and "corporate" casual. It took me about 10 minutes to read Mr. Greenleaf's book after skimming the chapters on 'Shaking Hands', 'Shining shoes' (who has time to put shaving cream on their shoes?)and business etiquette. If you need work in these areas, then this book is for you. If you are already established in the business world and have already committed all the fashion crimes early in your career but are gearing more towards the next level in classic men's fashion, this book is not for you. This book is a very basic primer for a person whose closet is empty.

This book is pure "crap".......2005-05-16

I should of paid more attention to the other reviews of this book before making my buying decision. My copy as well ended up in the garbage, where it belongs. Not only is the author inaccurate, most of the chapters are redundant; cut and paste statements. The individual that wrote this book should consider a new profession, and stop writing books. Needless to say, it deserves less than a 1 star. I am so mad at myself for wasting my time and money on this piece of garbage.

There are some good pointers in this book but I would have liked to seen photos and more visual examples.

Lacking depth.......2002-03-05

I am a firm believer in ongoing personal development, so I have continued to read and grow my perspective. Your Executive Image looked interesting because of attention given to clothing, space, gestures, etc...

Then I read it. Not all of it, but as much as I could before I realized this was a waste of time. For instance, the entire posture chapter could have been replaced with a single line: Posture is important as it conveys confidence or insecurity... The rest of the chapter reinforced this one point. Twenty minutes of time for a thirty-second concept. In some chapters, I didn't even see a worthwhile thirty-second concept (like the chapter on space).

Money could have been better spent elsewhere.

Excellent Use Of Time.......2001-07-21

This book continues all the sound advice I have received from my parents while I was growing up. The material contained in this book is an excellent reference for any person at any level of employment. I have been able to easily relate parts of the book to past experiences.

Getting To The Top.......2001-07-20

If a business minded individual wants to successfully make it to the top of the corporate ladder, then this book is a must. The author explains in great detail exactly what it takes to achieve "Your Executive Image." To keep and maintain employment the right image is a must and the author takes you there and keeps you there. I give this book as a gift to all of my friends.

Distorted images of women are expressed not only in everyday stereotyping, discrimination, and harassment, but also in pornography, domestic abuse, and other forms of sexual violence. Anne Borrowdale examines how Christian teaching has reinforced these problems. She studies how women are often falsely idealized as well as belittled, and how men, too, are harmed by their "distorted images" as either superhuman gods or uncontrollable monsters.

In Distorted Images, the author argues that only when the sexes cease to deal in these distortions can the evils of sexual exploitation, assault, and even murder resulting from sex-based hatred - all things that threaten women daily simply because they are women - be overcome.

This book is essential reading for all women and men concerned with these problems and with how Christian attitudes can help attempts to solve them.
