Out of date.......2006-11-04

We bought this book for a two week trip to Cornwall, completed yesterday. The book was exciting and the suggested activities of personal interest. Then we arrived in Cornwall and tried to use it. The references are badly out of date (e.g. the reference for Merlin Glass, when we found them, was perhaps ten years out of date....), directions were careless and often significantly inaccurate, a vital element in an area where roads are often poorly marked, two way but one lane, and go on for miles. We were highly disappointed, and left the book in Cornwall.

They give background information on an area and its sights. The beautiful colour photographs add interest to the guide and give a taste of what's to come.... The Other British Isles.......2006-11-07

Excellent summary of the overlooked history of the main off-shore islands. Fascinating details of an almost parallel universe to the mainland. Their geography often placed them in the way of power struggles taking place beyond their shores. Each island has its own peculiarities with shifting economies based on far-flung trading partners and changing demands. The book zips along, covering a lot of ground but has a terrific index for cross referencing place names and keeping track of the colorful characters that peopled the isles up to and including recent times.

It isn't a cookbook.......2007-10-13

This book is sold in the cook book list but in fact it isn't. I bought it thinking to find informations about all the restaurant doing "molecular" or contemporary cuisine but was very disappointed to find Lab/Laboratory of anything from fashion to art etc. addresses and few infos.
Very bad advertised and a very poor purchase.

I don't know why Amazon, and other members -in their "special list of kitchen"- have this book among them, this book, just have more photographs than information, about interesting people from barcelona (and that's it). The guy in the photo of above it's "another guy among them...."

I'm very dissapointed with the book -and the recommendations-, i thought it was going to be a little bit more focussed in cooking

Description:
Contamination of Barcelona harbor sediments was assessed by the quantitative determination of butyltins (TBT, DBT and MBT) and surfactant intermediates, namely linear alkylbenzenes (LABs) and nonylphenols (NPs), as markers of urban and industrial wastewater contamination, respectively. Degradation indexes of TBT and LABs were calculated. Tributyltin predominated in the whole area over its degradation products, ranging from 98 to 4702 ng Sn/g. These elevated concentrations reveal a persistent historical contamination and a moderate degradation (BT"d"e"g). Moreover, the high LAB concentrations (1.2-53.1 @mg/g) compared to the relatively low NP levels (3.8-72.0 ng/g) suggest a predominance of urban over industrial wastewater inputs, although a significant correlation (r^2=0.82, N=12, P=0.001) between LABs and NPs was found. Stormwater runoff and combined sewer overflows (CSO) were likely the most possible sources for both surfactant intermediates. The high degradation index values obtained for LABs could indicate an improvement in the wastewater management reducing its recent discharge into the Barcelona harbor area.

Terns are elegant sea and marshland birds that live throughout the world. In Europe and North America a total of twenty-three species is represented, all of which are dealt with in this book. The variations among the species and their subspecies is great, and identification is therefore often highly problematic. Terns are long-distance migrants and can be seen regularly on passage between their normal breeding and wintering areas.

Klaus Malling Olsen devotes much attention to the immature and winter plumages of these birds, which are generally inadequately described in most other field guides, while he also deals in depth with the problems of moult, species, and subspecies. The text covers the bird in the field, moult, and the bird in the hand. The author concludes each species account with extensive data on measurements and weight and an itemized key to identification. The text is accompanied by over forty color plates, which have been specially prepared for this guide by the talented Swedish bird artist Hans Larsson. The book is completed with a forty-eight-page representative photographic section.

I loved this book! I love picture books, so this satisfied my desire to stare in awe at gorgeous gardens, however, it also was very detailed and explicit in how to content. I thought it was the perfect balance between inspiration and explanation.

This book was given to me as a Mother's day present... and I thank my mother-in-law every time I open it! As an organic gardening teacher in a Montessori elementary school, I have found this book to be inspirational to children and grown-ups alike. The photos are gorgeous, of course. But it is the way Larkom puts her gardens together that is the most compelling aspect of this beautiful book. You will never look at your vegetable (or flower) garden the same. Mixing edible flowers into vegetable beds in stunning geometric patterns, weaving intriquing and useful elements like benches and fences out of willow or other local materials, making phantasmagorical trellises for peas and other climbers, creating an environment for you to spend hours of pure joy while eating fresh, organic food... does it get any better than this? The end of the book features an alphabetical listing with pictures and growing info on most of the plants she works with as well as great how-to tips on every aspect of home gardening. My students, after looking through the pictures, cannot wait to get to work making a dream garden for all of us to thrive in. Just buy it!

I also got this book secondhand, so I don't have the CD either. Alas. Anyhoo, the book is amazing. It actually manages to have pictures of Marlene looking glamorous, and also have Marlene in her kitchen at the stove. In the photographs, she is relaxed and comfortable (an important thing in pictures). And oh, the things she can do with a cigarette. She makes smoke paintings. I highly recommend this book!

This publication came with a Cd.But,since I bought it second-hand the Cd was gone! To the point! This photographic glory of the legendary woman Marlene by her friend photographer Alexander Liebmann is very well put together and can stand on its own without a Cd that has no purpose.WE all heard her voice! This marvelious book contains pictures and stills from her films and also pictures never before released of her at home,with her grandsons,her(oh,bother)daughter,and backstage/live photos....My first ever book to cover the Blue Angel is a treasured one! A nessecity for any Dietrich fan or an essential to start any collection! If you can find one-buy it!
