Incomplete, disappointing as far as Unofficial Guides go.......2007-05-24

No discussion of pre-theater dining! When you are going to see Wicked at the Ford Theater, there is not much more you care about than where to eat first. In fact, the restaurant guide does not even mention half the restaurants that are listed online as "the" pre-theater dining places (none of which "grabbed" me online, so I was hoping this book would be more enlightening).

Also no full drawing of the various parts of the city. Small maps that show only two districts do not tell me where Bucktown is relative to The Loop. This is critical when all the hotels, restaurants, etc. are referred to by district.

Overall disappointing, because The Unofficial Guides tend to be better than other guides, and they tend to be better than this.

Great Chicago Guide.......2005-08-09

This guide has ratings for the places you can visit, by age range. This is helpful so that you know it your family members will be interested in visiting there. They gave helpful hints for some of the locations. We found they underestimated the amount of time needed at some of the sites. The maps were very well laid out and showed how things were related to each other. They didn't give many parking locations, but often places to park were easy to find. Take plenty of money for parking (usually $18 and for all the toll roads). Some of the restaurants were much higher priced than listed in the book.

Eliminate hours of research!.......2003-08-15

This guide offered everything I needed for my trip to Chicago. I found out where to shop, which beaches to go to, and all about the night life in the Windy City.

The author writes in an engaging fashion, using dialog frequently to bring scenes to life. She juxtaposes events happening at the same time in different parts of the world in a style reminiscent of the books of Genevieve Foster. This series is an excellent introduction to world history for adult readers as well as for children.

Cottage Gardens Review.......2005-01-22

When Country Living puts its name on a book, it is usually chock full of pretty pictures. The new book Cottage Gardens by Toby Musgrave is no exception. Anyone who isn't sure exactly what they want in a garden, but leans toward an informal style, will enjoy flipping through the book for ideas. Also, the garden plans are nicely done. The book is well written, but it is hard to write yet another book on cottage style gardens and come up with much new and exciting information.

One of the things I liked most about Cottage Gardens is the way it is laid out. The first section discusses "designing by theme." It goes into a bit of history for each type of garden and talks about how to achieve each look. In this section, you will find traditional, tapestry, potager, romantic, rural, formal, painterly and modern garden pictures and plans. The "designing by use" section covers aromatic, wildlife, herbal, harvest, cut flower, all year round, easy care, and dry gardens. Again, there are many photos and there is a design for each type of garden. Finally, there is a "plants for cottage gardens" section. Frankly, I was not impressed with this section, as it is quite small and has few photos.

If you are a new gardener who enjoys the cottage garden style, the book is definitely worth a look, but advanced gardeners will probably be a bit disappointed.

Ms Lovejoy's collection of gardening essays presents a book of relaxing and delightful reading. It is sprinkled with a collection of gardening ideas that will be appealing to both the beginner and experienced gardener, especially if you are interested in living with nature. I have already borrowed some of her ideas for my backyard wildlife habitat.

This is a great book with tons of wonderful pictures. There are many antiques and vintage items in the pictures, (which I LOVE), and the ideas are very short and simple. A great book to just open, get some ideas easily, and be inspired. If you like collecting, or like Vintage style decor, this book would be a great addition to your collection.

Beautiful photos, interesting ideas.......2003-10-19

This is a great book for those of us with only a small space to garden. The book is broken up into different themes for your courtyard garden, such as latin courtyard, morrocan courtyard, contemporary courtyard, french courtyard, medieval courtyard, etc. Each style of courtyard has about two pages of information, then a plant list of appropriate plants and a sketch of a possible layout for that type of courtyard with specific locations of plants, benches, water features, etc. The book is very inspirational with lots of helpful photos and sketches to get every level of gardener excited and ready to get started.

Excellent Design Source.......2003-06-07

This book is full of beautiful courtyard photos and ideas. Nearly every topic is covered...architectures from classic to japanese, themes from tropical to xeriscape, hardscapes, water features, lighting, statuary and furniture. Each courtyard design includes a landscape sketch and suggested plants list. I bought this book to find ideas for the gardens of my Arts and Crafts home...and there was indeed a plan for it! The final chapter has an extensive and well organized list of plants suitable for the courtyard garden. Even if you don't have a courtyard garden to escape to...Musgrave's book will take you there through its beautiful photos and descriptive text.

This book is very much like something Martha Stewert would put out. I liked that fact, being I'm a big fan of hers I just had to get this book. This book will help you out so much with your decorating problems. For example if your can't figure out how to set up your backyard for a wedding or a party this book will give you lots of helpful tips. I loved this book and you should too, so get this one if your having trouble decorating and even if your not you should still get it for some fresh ideas.

This is a very enjoyable book. The pictures of all the gardens are lovely and very inspiring. I found many useful ideas to use around my own home in "outdoor" decorating. The text is informative, giving specific information relating to the pictured plants as well as items used in and around the garden. I was very pleased with my purchase of this book.

Its chronological development is traced through seven stages by applying a method of intensive motivic analysis to data collected from 370 drums. Four new subtypes are defined and their interrelationships are demonstrated by use of tables, figures, and plates. The meaning of these motivic changes together with early accounts of Karen culture are used to establish that the drums were symbolically a magic pond that the Karen ritually manipulated to assure prosperity.
