This user friendly book was a great help to us finding different places in Chicago. We went to a seminar downtown and it was very very helpful! Thank you Frommers!

All the comments & suggestions were right on!.......2004-11-20

I tried a few recommendations from Frommers and a few from local Chicago residents. I found the book's suggestions were more accurate that the residents'!

Frommer's isn't shy about giving opinions about places (e.g. "all the restaurants in Greektown are about the same") whereas Lonely Planet & other books tend to sound objective for their restaurant reviews & end up giving the traveler no guidance at all. Beware to call all the places you want to visit though. Even though my Frommers Chicago book is current (2004), I came across 1 restaurant in the book that already closed down, and found hours to the Art Institute had already changed.

It was a decent overview and has a useful tear out map for the city. I was disappointed because the map for Wrigleyville showed the Improv Olympic theather in the wrong place causing us to almost miss the show.

This book is perfect for a History student such as myself or someone interested in a specific history of the time. However this is not exactly a light read and while the detail it goes into is right for me it may not be the best for someone wanting a general overview of the time.

Boy oh boy, what classic English Art Direction can be viewed in this little ripper! A must for any one who appreciates good ads. Maybe a little too "in house", however definately worth viewing. When you add it up this is the ONE!!!

"Day Trips" is filled with enough historical material to keep a neophyte historian busy for a year. Many of the entries are tidbits of the past oft forgotten or never stored in the mental database. The book makes planning each trip an adventure and will help to fill up the weekends with local travel.

The material covered in this book was what we expected, and then some. We had seen and used the 1st edition, which influenced our purchase of our own. The second edition gave more information, particularly updated info, which will give the info that we are looking for. It is, in our opinion, very helpful in giving us short trip guides for one or two day travels, particularly info on what may otherwise be overlooked.
