Book Description
Field Guide to Liverworts of the North Pacific Coast is the first comprehensive guide to liverworts and hornworts from southernmost California to Alaska. Small and insignificant to the casual eye, liverworts and hornworts are sometimes confused with mosses and lichens. Yet botanically they are quite distinctive and under a hand lens, these plants can assume a surprising elegance.
The book describes representative species of each genus in the Pacific Coastal region, and explains how to collect and identify liverworts with the naked eye or aided by a 12x hand lens. Keys are provided to assist the collector in deciphering and identifying genera. The book introduces the role of liverworts in vegetation, their distribution patterns, and a history of collecting in the region. Graceful and informative line drawings accompany detailed discussions of each genus. A substantial glossary and comprehensive checklist are included.
This useful guide to genera found abundantly in the region will be welcomed not only by the professional field botanist, but by the enterprising amateur naturalist who wishes to discover these bryophytes' unusual beauty and fascinating variety.

The Travel Detective
In
Hotel Secrets from the Travel Detective, America’s best-known and most trusted travel authority reveals the insider knowledge that can make every hotel stay as comfortable as (and sometimes even more cost-efficient than) home. With his incomparable access and nose for news, Peter Greenberg shares the secrets that people who know hotels—managers, maids, reservation clerks, bellhops, chefs, and maintenance guys—don’t want you to know about value, service, safety, security, and cleanliness. Tips include:
• How to tell if your room is really clean
• What never to order from room service
• The real way to prevent hotel crime
• How to beat excessive hotel phone charges
• The exact rooms where headline-making events took place
Drawn from the author’s experiences as both an investigative reporter and a constant traveler,
Hotel Secrets from the Travel Detective is an essential guide to everything from luxury resorts to motels, from airport hotels and bed-and-breakfasts to outrageous (and often secret) alternatives to hotels.
Customer Reviews:
Engaging, Informative and Helpful.......2006-07-13
So many travel writers tell you where to go, what to see and at what price. Greenberg takes a new tack - he tells you who is really in charge (within hotels: concierge, bellhop, doorman, etc.), why hotels do what they do (hotel ratings, bolting down remote controls, etc.) and, most importantly, what to avoid. The chapter that considers housekeeping is worth the book alone. This section on hotel sanitation and cleanliness is not for the squeamish.
I travel extensively and found that Greenberg's book is not only an enjoyable read, but a helpful read. I took away tips for travel that I will definitely use in the future. It would have been helpful if Greenberg had broken down the franchise hotel chains that exist today and highlighted those that he found outstanding. Yes, he does promote a philosophy that is "consumer aggressive" and demanding, but, as we all know, it has become a jungle out there and those that speak up get the best treatment and, in the hotel industry, the best rooms. Highly recommended
REALLY HELPFULL GUIDE.......2005-10-24
I OWN A HOTEL IN MEXICO, THIS WAS A REALLY HELPFULL GUIDE TO VIEW THE HOTELS FROM THE SIDE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST PAYING THE ROOM AND STAYING THERE. GOOD TIPS, BUT SOME STORIES ARE NOT CREDIBLE
Peter the Great.......2004-06-08
Greenberg's self promotion would have you think of him as the legendary "Peter the Great." Well that's not the case. This book is a bland and boring read that reuses his old and tried tips from past books.
There's nothing new in this book accept for another chance for Greenberg to flex his ego.
Waste of my money!.......2004-06-07
I have worked in the hotel industry for 17 years in the Front Office and Housekeeping. I cannot believe the crock of baloney that this man is dishing out. I have had to deal with "know-it-alls" in the travel industry before and that is why I had to read this book. He states to get the best rate is to call the Manager on Duty, Director of Sales or the General Manager. Good luck in finding them! The manager on duty is too busy dealing with all the people that booked cheap rooms but are demanding the Presidential Suite. If you don't pay for it you are not getting it! This man has only added gasoline to the fire. Save your money-Try being nice to the Front Desk person and they will go out of their way for you. Demand the world and get the worst room in the world!
PETER GREENBERG IS A GREAT TRAVEL REPORTER.......2004-03-19
Peter Greenberg is the only person regularly writing about travel who actually does research and investigative reporting. As he points out at the beginning of the book, he talks about travel as news on the NBC-TV "Today Show" and writes about travel as news in his books. There are lots of travel writers out there who give wonderful descriptions of ballooning through Burgundy or climbing the pyramids. But Peter writes about the nuts & bolts of travel. I make twenty-five or thirty trips each year to locations all over the world and I thought I knew a lot about dealing with airlines until I read his "Flight Crew Confidential." Now, I am experiencing the same sense of amazement as I read this new book about hotels. Suddenly, I am staying in better rooms and paying less money! The level of detail he offers is amazing. Every traveler I know complains about the hotel telephone charges, and he gives you a half dozen ways to beat them. I followed his advice about doing internet research and then negotiating with the hotel directly. Last week I stayed in a suite in Paris for less than it had cost me for just a room last year. If you are a nervous traveler, don't read his chapter on hotel security: the lax handling of everything from terrorism to towel theft is scary. Greenberg is both informative and entertaining in this book. If you follow his advice, you will easily save more than the cost of the book on your first trip.

From the supplier: Relentless pollution has drastically reduced the populations of Florida alligators and largemouth bass in Lake Apopka. The animals show abnormally low testosterone and high estrogen levels. Humans who eat fish from the lake could also suffer from reproductive problems.

Book Description
Most lifting bodies, or flying bathtubs as they were called, were so ugly only an engineer could love them, and yet, what an elegant way to keep wings from burning off in supersonic flight between earth and orbit. Working in their spare time (because they couldn't initially get official permission), Dale Reed and his team of engineers demonstrated the potential of the design that led to the Space Shuttle.
Wingless Flight takes us behind the scenes with just the right blend of technical detail and fascinating detail (the crash of M2-F2 found new life as the opening credit for TV's The Six Million Dollar Man). The flying bathtub, itself, is finding new life as the proposed escape-pod for the Space Station.
Customer Reviews:
The Definitive Volume on the Subject!.......1999-01-16
I've studied these vehicles for years and thought I knew a lot about them. But Dale Reed was there and does a masterful job of melding the history time line with the results of the program. There are probably only a handful of people who could have written this book which is as rich in detail and "colorful" stories as any reader could want. If you've read the story of the X-15, this is the next logical step. If you haven't, you need to to really grasp what was going on at Edwards during this time. Fascinating!
The definitive history of NASA lifting bodies to date........1998-11-13
A well written book from the engineer that was at the center of this small group of specialized aerospace vehicles. While detailed and somewhat technical, the author still manages to convey the sense of personal excitement, accomplishment and, at times, frustration experienced by everyone supporting these vehicles. A must-read for anyone interested in these vehicles.

Book Description
Advent is an interactive artwork that takes the form of an advent calendar in which the user follows a trail through 25 days in the life of a fictional character. Each day reveals a series of explorable images, animations and texts that illustrate the protagonist's descent into megalomania. Like many recently published computer works, Advent uses gameplay as a way to explore a complex narrative. But unlike many conventional computer games, the work is multi-stranded and poetic in character, with the final resolution simply a coda on the work and not its sole motivation.
System requirements: This CD-ROM is compatible with Windows (486 or Pentium chip) and Macintosh (68040, PowerPC or G3/G4). It needs 256 colors and a minimum of 5 mb of memory RAM (although more is better). It does not require QuickTime or any special installation but will play straight from the CD.

Customer Reviews:
So bad I threw it out rather than return it for a refund.......2002-12-31
I am an animal lover. When we lost one pup earlier this year I was devastated. To try to make me feel better we went to the pound and rescued two more strays. Our pack now stands at 6 -- recently I've been thinking about taking the most suitable one to nursing homes for pet therapy. Given all that, my mother gave me this book for Christmas(among others about dogs/animal rescue/pet therapy). This is such sheer [fluff], I'm amazed it was ever published. It was so bad I threw it out rather than return it for a refund or give it to the library. This isn't even comically bad, it's just spiritual drivel for the mindless mass.
The only thing I can think of is PETA published it and insists it's new-joins read the thing before confirming membership. Somewhere in there it talks about every animal being connected; they all feel each other's pain and know when someone is cruel to them -- including the ... bad people who ruthlessly tear the flesh from another creature's bones "...because they don't hear the torturous screams and see the pain and suffering of stock animals." (semi-quote from memory)
And pet astrology?...It's bad enough that people believe this junk for themselves but to put that on dogs and cats? How stupid. "A Taurus dog is playful as a pup but calms as he gets older." Hmmm...that's odd, most dogs never mature. I guess all mine have been Taurus.
Do not buy this book unless the reader has an IQ under 60. I'm insulted that it was even in my house.
Great Read!.......2002-07-30
This is such a fun book and fascinating. I enjoyed it so much I purchased 2 more copies to give away to fellow animal lovers.
Most Angels Have Four Legs and Fur.......2001-03-28
This book is fantastic....I definately couldn't put it down and read it in the one sitting. I related to absolutely everything that Billy Roberts expressed in The Healing Paw and particulary found the section "Animals after Death" comforting, as I have recently lost one of my beloved chihuahuas. I recommend it to anyone who loves their four legged friends and companions. This book is a WINNER in my eyes. ENJOY!

Book Description
A detailed scientific description of the Andalusi Arabic dialect bundle did not exist until recent times, although the correct understanding of some of its texts bears heavily on many momentous conclusions drawn by contemporary scholars about the extent and depth of cultural interaction between the Arabs and the West. After many years of work on the grammar of this variety of Neo-Arabic, and having produced accurate editions of its materials, the author now undertakes the task of establishing its lexicon, both synchronically and diachronically, by listing words and idioms and trying to provide the etyma of most items. This volume will be useful to students of Arabic dialectology and also to those concerned with any kind of literature produced in Al-Andalus, as well as to Romance scholars who may find the solution to many an etymological riddle here.

Book Description
Biography of Grammy Award-winning recording artist, Gloria Estefan.
Customer Reviews:
it was fantasmagoricle.......2005-03-05
If you like music you will love this biography about Gloria Estefan. This is an amazing story about a girl who moves from Cuba to Miami, Florida. She grows up to be a singer in Emilio Estefan's band. Then a little while later she graduates college and as you may have guessed, gets married to Emilio. They had two kids. There is a huge tragedy. She helped people who lost their homes in Hurricane Andrew. She also helped prevent kids from doing drugs.
This is a great story for kids, especially if they want to be singers. I liked when the author talked to you directly and made you feel happy about her recovering from the tragedy.

Gloria Estefan.......2005-03-05
This book is very exciting. It tells everything about Gloria, from when she was a baby, all the way to when she had a baby.
When Gloria was a baby, she had to move from Cuba, to Miami, Florida. When she was growing up, her dad got very ill. She had to go to school, learn English, and take on extra chores at home because her had to take care of her dad. During her life, she joined two bands. One was temporary and one was a career.
While she was doing that, she got married to Emilio Estefan. She had two kids. Before the 2nd one there were 2 tragedies, but they got through them, and fixed them. Before the tragedies she got many singles out with her band, she had a good interesting life before the tragedies, but she had a good life after it too.
In my opinion the author did an extraordinary job on this book. I also like that her word choice is awesome, because it is not boring.

It's Awesome.......2005-03-05
This biography is great for kids, especially who want to be famous some day. It's also an awesome book for anyone who likes to read exciting books about the lives of other people.
It's about a Cuban girl named Gloria Estafan and her family at first. They are forced to leave Cuba. When she gets to Florida, she likes it better than Cuba.
While in Florida her father gets a horrible disease. When she is in High school she gets great grades. At home she gets away from it all by playing music. She joins a band and the band manager is Emilio.
Later she falls in love with Emilio, they get married, and have a child. Her band becomes famous after a while. Then a tragedy happens that keeps her of her feet for a while. But she still has her family.
I think this book is fantastic because of the amazing pictures and fabulas word choice.

Wee-Mans book review.......2005-03-05
This story is great, and exciting the first time I read it. The story is worth reading. This story tells about Gloria's life. In the middle of the story Gloria's life turns in to a tragedy. This story is good. I think you should read it because it tells what Gloria's life is like.
Freds review OnGloria Estefan.......2005-03-05
The author of Gloria Estefan did an awesome job explaining the life of Gloria. She started the book at Gloria being born then she had to move to Miami Florida. There she met Emilio and joined his popular band.
Emilio and Gloria got married after they made some records and then made a lot more records together. Gloria her son and Emilio got to meet the president. On the way to one of Gloria's concerts a tragedy struck. Gloria still song after the tragedy and had another child. Emilio and Gloria had one big perfect happy family.
I thought this book was very help full because before I read this book I didn't know anything about Gloria and now I know a lot. If you want to be a star or even just want a good book to read I would suggests this book.
