This is a book that should be mandatory reading for all aspiring Dressage riders, as well as those who train and start youngsters! This book provides detailed descriptions as well as a thoughtfully laid out format. Kurd follows the German training tree - with one exception that makes sense and gets results quicker! Read the book to find out what it is!

This is a book that should be in every Dressage enthusiast's library! A clearly written, valuable book for any rider, especially at the lower levels of dressage, with a horse of any age.
Fill in the gaps of your horsemanship.......2005-05-08
I am very enthusiastic about "The Elements of Dressage: A Guide to Training the Young Horse" and will be recommending it to my friends and students.
The author's instructions are written clearly and are plentifully illustrated with diagrams and photos.
As well as dressage riders, Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship riders will find this book to be amazingly applicable to their favorite events. All riders will find that this book is both a wholistic and a specific guide to good horsemanship.
A book for every horse rider.......2005-04-27
Although this book is entitled "The Elements of Dressage" Col. von Ziegner really presents the elements of basic training of any horse! His version of the training scale is much easier to understand and follow than the German approved version (even though he helped develop the German version, he told me that many years of training has made him develop this newer scale). As a result of reading this book I went and rode with him in Germany ... an amazing experience seeing what I had read in his book being put into practice. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to ride dressage or to school a horse calmly and logically. In comparison to other dressage books I found this one a bit easier to understand and to apply to my riding.

A Perennial Classic .......2005-08-12
'Perennial Garden Plants' by Graham Stuart Thomas is a classic gardening reference book. Reknowned for his lyrical prose and encyclopedic knowledge, the now deceased Graham Stuart Thomas was one of the world's great gardening giants and this fact is clearly demonstrated in his treatise on perennials.
'Perennial Garden Plants' is an amazingly through listing of perennial plants by genus, providing each one with concise plant statistics (i.e. height & spread, hardyness, bloom time, etc) followed by a short description of the plant species along with his wonderfully overbearing thoughts to the beauty and uses of the plant. Furthermore, some plant entries are enriched by quotes from other gardening legends such as Gertrude Jekyll, William Robinson and others, adding yet more opinions on the delights (and distress) of certain perennial plants. To the serious gardener, having G. S. Thomas' opinion on his favorite perennial plants is alone worth purchasing this book.
However, it is worth mentioning that 'Perennial Garden Plants' is not the best gardening book on the market. Last revised in 1990, some of the cultivar entries are out of date, the meager selection of photos are dated and not really useful, and better, more through books have appeared on the market (most notably Allan M. Armitage's 'Herbaceous Perennial Plants').
If G. S. Thomas was alive and well to expand and update this book with new plant entries and more (and better) color photos, I would give it 5 stars. As it stands, though, I find this book to be useful mainly as a cross-reference with other texts that are more current. Nevertheless, I still cherish the delightful taste of G. S. Thomas' opinion on perennial garden plants as evidenced in this book to be invaluable.

I've been hooked on Morrell since "The Brotherhood of the Rose." A master researcher and a brilliant story teller, Morrell can not be pinned down to any one genre. Always fast paced, his tales drag you along like a fish on a hook until the very last page.

Another winner.......2005-10-31
Morrell has long been a favorite author of mine, and although he slipped a little with his last book, he has delivered another winner in Burnt Sienna. Interesting characters, tons of suspense, and fast paced action make for a great read that you will finish before you know it. Some of the events are predictable, but the with the intrigue and intense action you won't care. Morrell's writing is much better than most other books in the genre. If you are a Morrell fan or just a thriller fan in general, pick this one up.
Awful.......2005-08-26
This is the only book that I haven't liked that was written by Morrell. I have been a huge fan forever.
It was boring,weak and just plain awful. Makes me wonder if he had to get one to the publishers and the results were this.
A Brush with Greatness.......2005-04-20
David Morrell shows why he is one of the pre-eminent thriller writers today. This book pulls you through to the explosive conclusion.
- David Morrell creates events that flow together naturally and don't feel stilted or contrived like other stories
- David Morrell's characters always seem to act 'true' to their characters, which makes their responses more believable
- The characters show a certain amount of cleverness in their problem solving.
A strong package, and worth the time to read it.
My only complaint is the 'personality' of the main character. Although he's consistent, he's annoying. Rather than coming off as 'true to himself' or 'beholden to no one' to me he comes off as just a guy with a bad temper who is selfish at heart.
We can't all be true blue heroes I guess.
Another Morrell Masterpiece.......2005-02-26
This is the third Morrell novel I have read and like The Protector this is a non stop thrill ride masterpiece. Burnt Sienna has you turning pages until the early hours of the morning as you can't put it down.
Malone an ex marine now full time painter has no choice other than to accept a demand by wealthy arms dealer Derek Bellasar to paint two portraits of his beautiful wife Sienna. His CIA buddy informs Malone that Bellasar has had his previous wives painted too before murdering them and wants him to convince Sienna to escape with him and inform the CIA of everything she knows about her husband. Upon arrival at Bellasar's French Riveria mansion compound Malone comes to quickly realise how little time Sienna has left and probably himself as well. He also realises just how hard it will be to escape if he can convince Sienna to believe him and how hard it will be to hide on the outside world with Bellasar's resources if they do.
A bit unrealistic at times but a non stop entertaining can't put down thriller non the less. As well as The Protector also check out Morrell's novel Long Lost.
