Hopelessly out of date.......2007-04-03

My review concerns the 4-th edition of the book published in 2003. I found that some (much) information in the book is no longer correct. Some hotels mentioned in the book do not any longer exist, many emails of tour operators do not exist, time schedules are not correct; where the book mentions 'a good restaurant' at the hotel it turns out that the restaurant is not there since 2002. And all this I discovered during only 2 weeks traveling... Things change fast in Venezuela. The book can be used for general info and to get some clues what you want to visit (therefore I gave the book 2 stars, but only for that) but it's much better to query Internet for this purpose. The book also lacks some very important practical info as for example where to change money on the black market - the only way to get Bolivars (official rate is far too low).
The point is the book does contain some information on the country but as travel guide it is almost useless. I cannot recommend this edition.

Not very lively.......2007-03-27

This is a good guide, I suppose, but it was flat. There were no recommendations and no special details that would allow you to choose one hotel, one place to visit, or one tourist attraction over another. Having never been to Venezuela before, we really felt lost with the plain data, and decided to order a different guide in hopes that it would be a little more personal, or enthusiastic about something.

This is a great guide with lots of information on everything. But the number of images could be higher to make it even better. Still, the best guide I had chance to use.

My wife and I have retired in Venezuela for two years. The Insight Guide has beautiful pictures and is great to read, like a paperback coffee table book. The Footprint guide is fair, but not always well organized. So when we really want information about something specific, we go to our Bradt guide.

I usually travel with Lonely Planet. This was the first time that I bought another book for my travel. But after reading the reviews on this site I decided to try. I have to admit that I was very sceptical, but.... the purchase was worth the money. I am very happy that I did't bought LP... I had the opportunity to compare the two books in Venezuela and I can say that this is deffinitly a better gude to Venezuela. For example LP doesn't even mention the port La Guaira. Excellent Book! .......2007-07-15

I enjoyed reading this book because I felt it was the first organizing book in which the other thinks the way I do. It was a refreshing change from othe organizing books. The topics were clear and the suggestions were practical. It is also unique in the use of images showing products out on the market that are mentioned in the book. I was happy to see things covered that I hoped I would find in a book on garages and was intriqued by others I didn't know about.

I have read a lot of books regarding garages and this so far is the best one on step-by-step how to do it. The author has experience and knowledge and ability to put it in an easy to read book.
The basis for organizing can also apply to closets and other things.
Book is in a format that allows you to read only what applies to you.
I highly recommend this book for someone starting on this seemingly overwhelming task

Barry's book covers all the bases. He starts out by helping set a goal, create a plan, and envision the finished project. Then using small steps and understanding humor he guides the reader through the important basics of the organizing process as it applies to storage areas. From there Barry opens the world of storage options. Do you hang it, put it on a shelf, in a cabinet, or a drawer? He has pictures galore of different products and tricks you can devise yourself.

These suggestions are invaluable for someone who needs to know what he or she has to choose from. And he addresses how you can use what you already have for storage, the cost of what you will need, and having a garage sale.

Some of the best chapters are the extra ones about storage in sheds, attics, and basements. He even throws in a chapter on storage of seasonal and holiday items.

Barry has left no stone unturned. If you need to organize your garage, you have what you need here.

I own many turtle books, but this one is truly outstanding and is in my "most used" category..... a cornucopia of practical information that is well-written, well-presented and well-researched. There is stuff here that you'd have to combe through an entire library to find otherwise. I commend this text to all keepers, from beginner to professional. It has been called the "bible of turtle keeping" for good reason - there is no better single volume source of accurate information available. The author is founder of the Tortoise Trust, one of the world's leading turtle conservation and education organizations, and is known for numerous contributions to our knowledge on this topic. Without doubt, this is the most useful, practical turtle book I own, and I urge other keepers not to pass it by! There are some awful books on turtles out there, and they can get your animal's killed... this one is quite the opposite, and it has certainly saved many of my own animals. Excellent.

A Turtle Enthusiasts Must Have!.......2004-03-02

If you love turtles, this is a book that should be easily accessible to you at all times. Mine sits right on my desk and I reference it often. I am not a professional but rather a turtle guardian for 28 turtles that I call pets. This book has proven to be an awesome reference for every turtle easily available and those not so easily obtained. Hard core information in an easy to read format. It's out of print so you'll need to buy a used one but it's worth it! I only wish an updated version of the book would be written to include newly available information and photos.

Encyclopedias of any description cannot be separated from their intended audience. This book, by one of the heroes of Chelonia studies, manages to be comphrehensive, scholarly and entertaining at the same time and can be found on the shelves of amateur enthusiasts, research scientists and blissful pet owners. The text is direct, not overly laden with scientific terminology, and easily accessible. I feel that the illustrations don't alway match the high standard of the writing but the general comment on this book is that it is already a classic and probably the one book which anyone in turtle biology must have.

Carmen Deedy is a wonderful storyteller and author! My daughter and I have worn out the tape version listening over and over again! The stories are heartfelt, funny and so real- you will feel as though they are told just for you!
Her stories (books & CD) are so well written and told, young and old will laugh out loud - although it may be for two different reasons! She is a favorite at our house (and in our car!)You won't be dissapointed!
I have had the amazing opportunity to see Ms. Deedy present her stories to an elementary school and everyone (kids and grownups) loved every minute of her storytelling! I was able to visit with her for a short while and she is such a nice, down to earth person and it was truely a joy and honor to have this opportunity.

The magic and grace of Carmen Agra Deedy.......2006-07-16

I wish I could introduce everyone to Carmen Agra Deedy. My daughter and granddaughters have talked about her for years. On my vacation, it was my great pleasure to attend a story telling session at a Borders in Georgia. What a wonderful story teller Ms Deedy is. I bought several of her books for children while at the store, charming stories, beautifully illustrated. When we returned to my daughter's home, my daughter handed me an audio tape of Ms. Deedy narrating her stories of Growing up Cuban in Decatur, Georgia. I listened, I smiled and I had a great urge to have everyone I know enjoy the same happy experience. With no trouble at all, I was able to sit at my daughter's computer, ask Amazon.com to send me three copies of the tapes. They arrived at my home before I did, and have given some happy, peaceful moments to my dear ones here in Rhode Island. I highly recommend her books and her tapes.

Best Story Ever!!.......2004-08-09

I love this tape! Have listened to it over and over again. I must say that this lady is the best story teller I have every heard! Every time I hear the part about when her Cuban Mother (who, of COURSE, is driving her crazy) says "When I'm gone you're gonna missss meeee", it makes me cry. What love, compassion and emotion she puts in her story telling. Excellent! I always laugh at the "little Carmen" who insists her name is "Carmen!...not Caaarrrrmeeeen (long drawled out southern style). A MUST have!!
