Book Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on palm nuts and palm kernels in Madagascar face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying palm nuts and palm kernels to Madagascar? How important is Madagascar compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of palm nuts and palm kernels vary from one country of origin to another in Madagascar? On the supply side, Madagascar also exports palm nuts and palm kernels. Which countries receive the most exports from Madagascar? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?
This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for palm nuts and palm kernels in Madagascar. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. Icon Group has developed a proprietary methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for palm nuts and palm kernels for those countries serving Madagascar via exports, or supplying from Madagascar via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

A "MUST" if you love PALMS.......1999-11-06
Although this book offers a complete breakdown of the description of the palms in only a way that a scientist or botanist could enjoy, the pictures and the notes are outstanding. The only thing missing is the low temps that the palms will endure. But that is something we'll have to aquire and grow on our own to find out that answer. I borrowed this book but it is now on my short list for Christmas.

Book Description
High atop the Palisades cliffs in the boroughs of Cliffside Park and Fort Lee once stood the home of the famous Cyclone roller coaster, the Tunnel of Love, and the worldÂ's largest outdoor saltwater pool. The place was called Palisades Amusement Park, and even today, several decades after it closed, the park is warmly remembered. For those who ever visited the park, this book is sure to bring back cherished memories and re-create the thrills, laughter, and joy that was Palisades.

I Miss Palisades Park.......2005-08-23
Reading this book brought me back to the 60's and a wonderful time in my life. The book is filled with history but it is, more importantly, chock full of the spirit of Palisades Park.
Palisades Park was like Christmas, New Years and a fun Birthday Party all rolled up into one. As a small child I visited the park with my parents where we shared good times like a family should, but as a teenager it became something even more special. I performed there with my rock band a couple of times, and felt like I had really "made it".
How can these feelings be expressed in a book? Mr. Gargiulo does it with intelligence and a child-like awe of this place, the first "magical kingdom".
The prose is wonderful as so are the amazing pictures.
If anyone wants to take a time machine and return to those magical days in Fort Lee, one has only to read this book!
PALISADE AMUSEMENT PRK; A CENTURY OF MEMORIES.......2002-01-11
ITS GREAT. BROUGHT BACK ALOT OF MEMORIES.DIDNT CARE FOR CONEY ISLAND THO. TOO MANY PICTURES AND THAT ALL IT WAS
Reminiscin'.......2001-04-02
While "Palisades Amusement Park" might not be a book everyone would enjoy, it meant a great deal to me. I grew up in New Jersey, where this park was located and went there often as a child. The bus company where my Dad was employed provided free passes, which encouraged us to go. When it was destroyed, to erect a condo, my heart was broken, as I knew my daughter and grandchildren would never know the excitement I felt when I first rode the Cyclone at Palisades Park. Through this book, I was able to share some of my experiences with them. Even my son-in-law, who grew up in Georgia, enjoyed it, as history is one of his interests. If you are into historic sites or ever went to Palisades Park when you were young, I think this is a wonderful trip into the past.
Fantastic! A stroll down memory lane for a jersey boy.......1999-12-07
This book was absolutely fantastic. I was 10 years old when Palisades park closed. I had vague reminiscences tucked away in the recesses of my mind of the many times I'd visited the park with my parents and grandparents. This book jogged them all loose in a wonderful cascade of memories. The book was cleverly written and well organized into the various epochs in the parks history. There were many interesting facts given, of which I was previously unaware. The book had a generous assortment of vintage photographs. My only wish (and this is no criticism of the book or author) was that the older pictures could have had better clarity, as I found myself desperately trying to get into the "way-back machine." Understandably, these were old, vintage photos and some graniness was therefore unavoidable. But I found myself clinging to each photo as memories would unfold. There was a nice set of color photos also included which were very vivid. I wish there could have been even more. My overall impression is that anyone who was ever lucky enough to have passed through the gates of this great american park will cherish this book.It was worth 100 times the amount I purchased it. I bought another copy for my mother. This is a book that anyone would love. Mr. Gargiulo; Thank you so much!
Palisades Amusement Park.......1998-09-18
This book really brings back Fond Memmories. Everyone who ever love Palisades will love this book.
Book Description
There isn't much sun in the fun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-A-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation. He is partnered with Danny Boyle, a 24-year-old, part-time summer cop who doesn't carry a gun and only works with the police by day so he has enough pocket money left over to play with his beach buddies by night.
In the first novel in a new series written in the spirit of Carl Hiaasen's work, the Tilt-A-Whirl murder pushes Ceepak's deep sense of honor and integrity to the limits as unexpected twists and turns keep the truth spinning wildly in every direction.

Murder and Fun at the Jersey Shore.......2007-08-23
Chris Grabenstein's series of mysteries set at the Jersey Shore is a great fun collection. The narrator's relaxed style creates a special insight into the hero (the narrator's police partner). I enjoyed this series so much, I bought it for my local library.
Took me back . . ........2007-06-29
....to summers spent at the Jersey Shore. Or the Maryland or Delaware Shores. Maybe Sea Haven is a universal Shore town, but those are the areas I'm familiar with from long ago summers and the positioning of the mystery was half the fun for me. I expected some crime or military "experts" to be in here complaining about accuracy, which I know little about. It felt like it was inaccurate, but that doesn't bother me unless I'm trying to read a review that picks apart every detail. I listened to the downloadable audio version and the narrator, Jeff Woodman is really great, although I didn't think so at first. Danny is our narrating character, but the dialog covers many voices and Woodman uses a Sgt Joe Friday ("Just the facts, ma'am") voice for John Ceepak that was jarring at first but is absolutely perfect after you get used to it. Many of the characters were overdrawn small town stereotypes, but I don't mean that as a criticism. They belonged there. I wanted to kill the mayor, or at least lock him up for his constant "Have a sunny, funderful day!!!" and his "keep the tourists happy at all costs" attitude. He's perfect. I immediately got and listened to the next two books, and am wondering how I'll wait until Summer 2008 for the next installment.
I am looking forward to the next one!.......2007-05-04
Tilt A Whirl is Grabenstein's first book featuring police officer John Ceepak and his partner, part-time Summer cop Danny Boyle. The two of them work in the small New Jersey resort town of Sea Haven. While eating breakfast one morning, they see a girl standing in the street covered in blood. Her wealthy father has been fatally shot while sitting on the Tilt A Whirl at the amusement park. Ceepak, who has recently returned from the war in Iraq, has a soft spot for children in need and vows to protect the girl and find her father's killer.
I must confess that I read Gravenstein's second book (Whack A Mole) in this series first and came back to read this one. Tilt A Whirl shows how Ceepak came to Sea Haven and sets up the hero/sidekick relationship between Ceepak and Danny Boyle. The story is told from Boyle's point of view and he sees Ceepak as somewhat larger than life. Compared to Ceepak, Danny looks like a screw-up. Grabenstein does a great job of describing Danny as a young man who grew up at the beach and still hangs out there with his friends - a young man without ambition until he meets Ceepak. And when he believes that his hero has done something wrong, Grabenstein writes of his disappointment simply but powerfully.
I tend to dislike books in which children are victims. I think authors often use children gratuitously for extra shock value. But Grabenstein doesn't run rampant here. He has incorporated Ceepak's special need to help children into his character background and makes it believable. Ceepak is a character who has been through the emotional wringer and is doing the best he can to solve the problems put in front of him, in accordance with his personal code of conduct.
I have enjoyed both of Grabenstein's books and am looking forward to the next one, Mad Mouse. If you are interested in reading them, start with Tilt A Whirl. It is a little bit more serious than Whack A Mole (in which Grabenstein's history in comedy is a little more apparent) but give you good background information. There are also some events mentioned in Whack A Mole that happen in Tilt A Whirl and you will understand the references if you read the books in order.
Favorite character? Danny Boyle. Did I guess it? Yes. Will I read another? Definitely.
Great characters, needed a better plot.......2007-01-11
Danny Boyle is a 24-year-old, part-time summer cop--he gets the baseball cap, but no gun--in Sea Haven, New Jersey. He is partnered with John Ceepak, a former MP back from Iraq who lives by the Code and plays by the rules. While having breakfast one morning, a young girl, covered in blood, runs from the area of the Tilt A Whirl screaming that a crazy man just shot her father, a billionaire real estate tycoon.
Grabenstein's protagonists of Danny and Ceepak are what make this book work. They are a delightful study in contrasts giving humor to an otherwise less-than-perfect book. The story is written in first person, present tense with the narrator being Danny, allowing the reader to uncover the facts as do the characters. There is a good deal of profanity and I enjoyed when Ceepak admonishes Danny on its use. There are constant references to songs by Springsteen, which is appropriate for the setting, but if you're not a fan of the Boss, it's a bit meaningless and distracting. To me the plot was weak; I suspected where the story was going half-way through and the killers-tell-all scene unrealistic at best. As to the fact that the cover is bright pink with a rollercoaster on the cover certainly proves I don't buy a book for its cover. I am certain I shall read the next book in this series because of the characters, but I desperately hope for a stronger, more logical plot.
Crazy, lovable, wicked, dangerous and sweet!!!.......2006-10-27
Tilt-a Whirl is a rapid fire, laugh out loud, novel that will leave you wanting to read Chris Grabenstein's next book!!
At a typical sea-side New Jersey town, where the crime consists of jay-walking and kids drinking on the beach, things are about to get serious! In the middle of the summer beach season,a wealthy man is found murdered on the tilt-a-whirl ride at the local amusement park and his daughter is found running in the street covered in blood, screaming.
Two cops go to her aid. This has got to be the funniest pairing of cops since..........well, talk about the odd couple. John Ceepak is a former military man, who fought in Iraq. Danny Boyle is a happy go lucky, lookingfor a good time kind of guy. Ceepak lives by a rigid code of honor, Danny lives by the seat of his pants. As the investigation into the murder proceeds, the dialogue is fast-paced and funny, the Bruce Springsteen quotes flow, the clues are collected and examined and the level of danger rises quickly!
This is one of the funniest mystery/detective novels that I have read in a long time. Think of the New York version of Carl Hiaasen and you may be close. Chris Grabenstein is irreverently humorous, unbelievably focused and has the gift to pull it all together! Crazy, lovable, wicked, dangerous, sweet all are words that easily come to mind when reading this book.

Wildwood Days.......2006-08-30
This is a great walk down memory lane. When I was a kid in the fifties and sixties, Wildwood was my favorite place on earth. I remember the Toonerville Trolley, Mack's Pizza, Laura's Fudge, the Jack Rabbit and Mr. D's. I remember checking out the waitresses at Pierre's on the boardwalk after working my own shift at Kelly's Cafe. This book is rich in memories and a good historical piece. I have lived in Hawaii for almost two decades and I love to tell folks here about the Wildwood palm trees that you unscrew in September and put away for the winter. Great reading!
"Watch the car please".......2005-08-23
For anyone who can remember things like the "Hell Hole", the Pirate ship on Hunt's Peir, the "Oliver Fox Men's clothing store, the cam car screaming all night"Watch the car please", Oliver Fox playing his clarinet with the other Swing Band members on the Boardwalk Bandstand, the Boardwalk Majic & Trick shop, the "Ocean Court Motel across from the tennis courts(and their super cheap rates) and of course Mack's Pizza Shops this book is a must! I bought this great volume at the Boardwalk Bookstore several years ago just to have the memories. Back in the early 60s my family would never dream of going anywhere else once we went to Wildwood.Even living in Baltimore,Md our Ocean City didn't have a chance against all that the Wildwoods had to offer and for anyone who grew up walking those long sandy beaches like I did know exactly what I'm talking about. This book is a must for folks like me who enjoyed it when we were kids and now take our children and grandchildren as so they also can start their own memories!

Wildwood by The Sea.......2005-05-15
This is a wonderful book detailing the history of this seaside resort. A MUST for anyone interested in this New Jersey area. Reading this book will bring back great memories for anyone who has ever vacationed here.
A trip back in time.......2003-10-18
This is a nice addition to your collection if you have any interest at all in the history of 5 Mile Beach. Nicely written, though a bit redundant at times, "Wildwood by the Sea" begins in the late 1800's, before paved roads were common, to the late 1990's, where huge roller coasters and monstrous resort hotels dot the skyline. The book doesn't delve very deeply into the local political scene, giving a view from the eyes of the business owner instead. Some of these men were entertainment visionaries (such as Gilbert Blaker and William Hunt), and had to deal with competiton from other cities, bad weather, and frequent fires. The roller-coasters that sprang up along the boardwalk closely mirrored the up-and-downs of the local economy.
There are plenty of excellent and fascinating photographs from the island's early years, and it's fun to contrast those photos with the modern ones from the early 1990's.
Wildwood holds a special place in the hearts of many people (like myself) who spent a good portion of their childhood there. If you have fond memories of the place, grab this book if you can, it's really hard to find these days...but you can if you look hard enough!
A WONDERFUL BOOK, FILLED WITH EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW!.......2002-09-14
I have been going to Wildwood every summer since I was a young kid, and it is one of my favorite places in the world (since I was born in Jersey). Recently, I realized that I knew very little about the history of the resort I love so much, and so I decided to buy this book and find out the details. This book is expensive, but I highly recommend it. It thoroughly details Wildwood's history, from its 1890's beginnings through the present day. Now, some people might think 'Oh, it's a historical book, so it must be boring,' but this book holds your attention. It was written in an incredibly good way, and has plently of picutes and illustrations in it, so that you know exactly what the author is talking about. None of it is boring, it has great details about everything you could ever want to know about the Wildwoods, and it covers everything from the beach to the Boardwalk. So, if you love Wildwood and want to know a little more about its history, read this book. It is expensive, but is worth every penny!

Bad start good ending!.......2002-04-26
I like the logo section and image brochures section, but I can't help to disslike what the book begins with - I think however that it is purely my own perceptual persevering that can not get past this, nor can I put my finger on exactly what is so bad with it, maybe because of the way that the book uses the page space. I don't like it until you get to p.14-15, but after that it goes bad again! A very uneven, unequal book. It ruins the rest of the book for me - my tip is to start from the back of the book and work yourself forward instead!
I could live without this book, I think that "The Big Book of Design for Letterheads and Websites" is a lot better...check that review...

Good research tool for any flower gardener........1998-10-22
Have been a Master Gardener for five years and I love books. This series has been one that I go back to as a good research source for exccellent pictures, to the point summaries of the varities, and a large number of varieties listed for many plant species. Covers most planting zones but is easy to discover those for my zone 7 gardening. Have recommended this to many of my fellow Master Gardeners and am ordering the third set in less than 2 weks for them. A must for the perennial library.

This volume is a collection of thirteen essays offered in dedication to Professor C.G. Stead on his 80th birthday. Their theme is the philosophy underlying the presentation of Christian teaching in Late Antiquity. The essays deal with individual theologians (Augustine, Ambrose, Dionysius the Areopagite, Gregory of Nyssa), with ideological background (Christian and Roman universalism), and with the discussion of particular texts. A bibliography and brief appreciation of Professor Stead's contribution to Patristic studies are included.
