Hidden Montana.......2007-08-01

This book was a wonderful guide to the areas of Montana we traveled through. There were several things we would not have seen if it hadn't been for the suggestions in the book and some excellent restaurants we wouldn't have stopped at if they had not been recommended by the book. We plan to get another "hidden" book for our next trip.

Excellent layout and variety of content........1998-09-02

Braeking the state up into sections, the author does an excellent job of describing and presenting the various highlights of each. Equal treatment is given to popular and off-the-beaten-path areas, with sufficient detail for each. It made my recent visit more enjoyable!

Passagen is a photo/sound narrative work on CD-ROM. Utilizing digital technology, Passagen traces a series of elliptical pathways through Paris, London and Berlin, from the heights of the tourist platform to the echoing corridors of the underground railway network. Taking as its starting point the German philosopher and critic Walter Benjamin's use of the metaphors of panoramic vision and the labyrinth in his unfinished text 'The Arcades Project' (the Passagen-Werk), Passagen asks the viewer to follow a choice of slowly unwinding narrative threads that begin with the ecstasy of aerial vision and end with the sacrifice of underground travel. Similarly following Benjamin's example in mixing an interest in new forms of visual technology with an enthusiasm for obsolescent forms of visual pleasure, Passagen fuses the pre-cinematic spectacle of the panorama and the post-photographic technology of digital media. The original large-scale installation of Passagen has been shown at the Watershed Media Centre, Bristol, Tramway in Glasgow, Atlantis in London, and the Tate Gallery, Liverpool.

System requirements: This CD-ROM is compatible with Windows (486 or Pentium chip) and Macintosh (68040, PowerPC or G3/G4). It needs 256 colors and a minimum of 5 mb of memory RAM (although more is better). It does not require QuickTime or any special installation but will play straight from the CD.

Tremendous Incite Into the Scottie!.......2003-03-02

The book provides tremendous incite into the Scottish Terrier thanks to the years Miriam Stamm has spent as a breeder, owner and handler of Scotties. In fact, her kennel, Amstamm, is one of the most important breeding kennels in our country for furthering and protecting the breed.
If you own, are interested in or about to acquire a Scottish terrier buy this book.You will not be disappointed.

Disappointing.......2003-01-15

There is a tremendous amount of information in this book that's generic and could apply to any dog breed. I was looking for information specific to the Scottie and was largely disappointed. When I got to the page where the authors talk about when your dog gets to 55 lbs. size, my attention waned -- Scotties are around 20 lbs. full grown! In large portions of the book, you could change the title and pictures, and you would be reading about any dog breed. The book also appeared to be somewhat of an 'infomercial.' It's disappointing in a book of this nature when one is directed to pet products by brand name, which I think challenges the credibility and impartiality of the authors.

This book was originally published as The Complete Scottish Terrier in 1967. This is a new updated version of this work. Mr. Marvin was long active in this breed in the early days in this country. This volume examines in depth the history of this breed, the major champions in both the United Kingdom and the United States. One of the highlights of this book is the section on grooming the Scottish Terrier, with excellent drawings demostrating both correct and incorrect grooming. There is an extensive listing of British and American kennels that were active in this breed up to 1980. Also covered in depth is breeding axioms, conditioning show stock, bloodlines and line breeding and the standard for the breed. There is a large amount of black and white photos of past and present Scottish Terrier champions, including Scotties who won big at Westminster-best in show. Although this book is now out of print, it is not difficult to locate and is a must for anyone interested in this breed. Both the pet Scottie owner and the Show enthusiast will learn much from this volume. The cover is green and white with a large photo of the great champion "Carmichael's Fanfare" who won BIS at Westminster. This dog was handled by John Murphy and owned by Mr. & Mrs Charles Stalter.

Delightful as ethnobotany.......2000-12-10

I was drawn to this book because I recognized so many familiar plants from my childhood among the drawings. I never suspected that the humble jewel weed or stinking Benjamins had ever had any medicinal uses. It's a very entertaining and enlightening read.

The title is somewhat misleading. I would caution anyone against using this as a serious herbal medicine text. The entries are of historical rather than medical significance, but that does lessen its wide ranging appeal. Use it to extend your knowledge and enrich your walks in the woods of the north east.

This book really interested me. It is good for anyone with a sudden burst of interest in Native Ameerican herbs. There are plenty of other books out there as well, but this was one of my favorites.

Lovely photos and words reveal a traditional sport, way of life and skills comparable to the American rodeo. Boys, girls, young women and men join in for a day of celebration centered around style, courage, horses and skill with a rope. Over 2 & 1/2 dozen Spanish words are introduced through the text. I would reocmmend this book to students in the 4th and 5th grades.
