Rough Guide better than Lonely Planet, Footprint.......2001-01-12
Just came back from a three week trip to Vietnam with three books: the Lonely Planet, the Rough Guide, and Footprint Handbook.
The Rough Guide is the best guidebook around for the country. It is superior to the Lonely Planet guide in the breadth and depth of coverage and especially its accuracy. I liked LP for other countries but here they did a very poor job.
I have not found even one instance where Lonely Planet provided information that Rough did not have. If you are traveling to the north, you may want to consider reading Footprint before you leave -- it has some interesting information.
Also, all hotels -- even the top ones -- can be negotiated down in price. Send them an e-mail and ask for special rates, corporate rates, etc. You can stay at the Metropole in Hanoi for less than half their rack rate.

As a former expat in Saigon with family and friends all along the Mekong Delta, I'm naturally interested in the precision and breadth of guidebooks on SE Asia. This one from Footprint seems to cover all the bases in a detailed and realistic fashion. Since there's always uncovered terrain, it's the one I'll bring on my next trip over. And for new visitors, I'd also recommend the video "Raise The Bamboo Curtain: Vietnam, Cambodia and Burma", available from Amazon.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The impact the Next Generation Small Loader (NGSL) will have on reducing the mobility footprint has not been thoroughly explored. The global mobility system cannot function without adequate Materiel Handling Equipment (MHE). MHE of the future must be multi-purpose in design and should able to support multiple weapon systems. In addition, it will require less maintenance and be easier to deploy thus making air mobility operations more responsive to customer needs. Current MHE is old and labor intensive. The Air Mobility Command's (AMC's) small loaders, especially 25K loaders, are in very poor condition and are incapable of servicing KC-1Os and commercial wide-body aircraft. AMC's fleet of wide-body elevator loaders (WBELs) are capable of servicing commercial wide-body aircraft, but have also exceeded their designed service life. Both the 25K loader and WBEL require replacement with a more reliable and flexible loader. AMC is currently exploring a Non-developmental Item (NDI) loader in the NGSL. This loader will be capable of servicing KC-lOs and commercial wide-body aircraft. The NGSL combines the capabilities of the 25K loader and the WBEL. This technology, coupled with the new Tunner 60K loader, will improve cargo loading and unloading efficiency by providing highly mobile, flexible, and reliable MHE capable of servicing all types of cargo aircraft.

For budget travel on a schedule.......2006-07-27
I am a big fan of Footprint guidebooks and have used them in many countries over the years. I bought this for an upcoming trip to Laos and Cambodia. It seems targeted to budget tourists who want to carry only one guidebook and hit the high points of each country. The hotels reviewed are "B" or lower and 3 countries plus Bangkok (which isn't mentioned in the title) are covered in under 400 pages.
Another big difference between this and other Footprint guides is that it doesn't mark selected hotels "recommended" or "highly recommended" - one of the many reasons I buy them.
If you are the target audience of this guidebook, grab it. Otherwise, buy books for the individual countries.

A Good Start.......2003-08-01
While this book did have useful and interesting information, along with great pictures it was poorly put together. The binding is awful and there is one of those rip-out ads in the middle of the book leaving you with that nice perforated cardboard glued down to one of the pages. It was a good read but I am sure there are much better books out there for the same amount of money.

Have you ever heard for a dogs feet clicking, I have a jack russell cross cocker spaniel, who's feet click when walking. Have you ever heard of anything similar? I am despartate for advise, Snoop is only 7 months old and we are rather worrid.

Well written.......2007-06-05
Really now... What is there to say about a worm book? Can it actually be INTERESTING? Well, this book held my attention well, taught me many things I did not know, did not burden me with super technical bunk that I do not need or want to know, and was a detailed, well rounded book on the topic.
That said, I think the book was excellent.
Of course, a more recent publication would be better (for instance: no mention of european nightcrawlers -- something rather recent on the American worm market)... but this book gave me ALL the information that I needed to begin raising worms and understanding the HOW's and WHY's of worms and vermiculture.
Squirm of worms revisited........2007-03-24
This is one of the two books most recommended by the vermiculture sites that I have visited. It is a comprehensive guide. It is a great book for children and adults who want to raise worms. It's easy to understand. It is a "most" before you buy the redworms. The only reason I give it a 4 is because it is so basic that young children can understand it and I am quite a bit older.

the only reason it did not receive 5 stars is it was published in the late 90's so some of the data given is outdated. as far as the how to it is 5 stars.
Practical and informative enough to be a science textbook!.......2006-12-24
This is a well researched, not to mention well written book. Each page has pertinent information presented in an easy to read format. It isn't padded with a lot of fluff, and you feel like a friend is sharing information with you. I'm planning to use it as an additional textbook while homeschooling my 3 kids, and will certainly keep it handy as a reference book.
An outstanding resource.......2006-11-17
I highly recommend this book. It's quite comprehensive and would be helpful to newcomers to worm composting as well as those whose bins are already underway. Not folksy or corny, this book is serious but straight-forward and easy to understand.

This is a thorough, clear, concise reference guide to vines and ground covers. Very complete, excellent photos, well organized. I checked it out of the library with several similar books and liked it so much I decided to buy it.
