This book is great if you love exploring and finding lighthouses. The authors give a nice overview and history of the lighthouse and then give detailed directions on how to find it. We just spent time finding many of the lighthouses described by the authors on the Maine coast and had a great time.

Great picture book for lighthouse lovers.......2000-08-04

Bruce Roberts may be the best lighthouse photographer working in the U.S. today. The books by him and his partner Ray Jones are really lighthouse travel guides. For each lighthouse featured, you'll get a great picture from Roberts, a little historical story from Jones and directions of how to get there. The lighthouse lover could scarcely ask for more.

Good for any dog lover.......2002-09-19

This book was fun to read and filled with unusual examples. The author was a columnist for the Milwaukee Sentinel years ago, and I remember her writing about such interesting animals and people. The author manages to instruct about canine behavior and health without boring the reader. I wish I had read Chapter Fourteen about death and dying before letting my veterinarian "dispose" of my beloved dog's body. This chapter discusses wills, surviving pet programs, animal and human grieving, funeral services, freeze-drying, mummification, taxidermy, burial, and cremation. Not that I would have had my dog mummified or stuffed, but I might have opted for cremation if I'd had time to consider the options. Good book to have on hand before adopting a puppy or older dog. Recommended for all dog lovers.

"Dog-gone" good!.......2002-09-16

Dr. Whiteley, who lives in what she calls dog country, is a vet in rural New Mexico. She gives an interesting account of her canine neighbors--Smokey, the
150-pound, cat hating malamute who howls at the mailman; Chow, the friendly, black-tongued extrovert prone to wandering; and Tiger, the four-pound
Chihuahua, who "trees" bears. It is the author's examples and personal tales that give life and interest to this book about understanding and raising healthy
dogs. Even if you are dogless, you will enjoy this book. The author explains why the Catahoula hog dogs of her native Louisiana were given away rather than
sold; why the most decorated canine of World War II was such a great fighter; why Old Yeller, the protagonist from a novel by Fred Gipson, is representative of a
ancestral type; and what American explorer John C. Fremont said about eating dogs. And, I haven't even mentioned the humorous tales of her experiences as a
practicing veterinarian. I highly recommend this book.

Canine behavior/misbehavior tips, + great personal stories.......2002-09-15

I have read many books about dog behavior and health, and this is one of my favorites. The author, a practicing veterinarian for over thirty years, offers intersting anecdotes to illustrate normal and abnormal canine behavior. She gives instructions for training, retraining, and correcting misbehavior, plus chapters devoted to caring for puppies, the geriatric dog, and preparing for the inevitable--the death of a pet. Recommended!

Bonnie Bergin is the pioneer in training assistance dogs, she started Canine Companions 30 years ago, and in this book she provides a wonderful review of dog history with man, how to understand dog mind, and specifics on training dogs. I consider this a basic on dogs which I will keep.

Coin World Almanac review.......2001-05-16

Each new edition of the Coin World Almanac is exciting reading and a very useful research tool. I use the Coin World Almanac to keep me up to date on changes since the last edition on such things as new legislation, new commemorative coins, new facts about paper currency and a multitude of many, many more numismatic subjects. I recommend it the highest rating because all I need and want to know about numismatics is contained in the Coin World Almanac. Additionally older editions of the Coin World Almanac have historical information which I can generally not elsewhere.

Missing One Element.......2007-07-13

The book was very informative but I feel that it left out a key element.
In our area ( Dallas Texas) many of the Latino population perfers to buy a used mobile home that they ca get paid off as fast as possible. Being debt free is important to the Hispanics I've worked with. Many do not like to use banks and prefer to deal in cash. So financing can be challenging. Overall, a very good book.

I have been selling houses to Latino families 20 years. What I know, I found reflected in these pages and learned new details of Latino buying habits, family life and demographic distribution. Although the book aims to inform real estate and homebuilding professionals, it is really universal book about doing business with America's largest minority. Read this book, and you will never look at a Latin in the same way again, even if you are one. Mexican Americans have a unique relationship with the United States. Because of the proximity of the neighboring countries, the old traditions of Mexico remain ever close to their hearts even as they embrace a new life in America. As a matter of fact, the first Mexican Americans did not leave
their homeland by choice to come to the United States. Instead, the United States went to them. At the end of the U.S.-Mexican War in 1848, Mexico was forced to cede territory that is now the southwestern United States, and the roughly 80,000 Mexicans who had been living in this vast territory
suddenly found themselves living within U.S. borders. As the Tejanos (Texans of Mexican descent) say, "We never crossed a border. The border crossed us."
Since then many Mexicans have crossed that border by choice, most in search of jobs. The obstacles they faced--racism, exploitation, the language barrier, poor wages--have not prevented them from becoming an integral part of the United States. The gifts they brought with them--folk art, food,
music, literature, new words for the American vocabulary (taco, ranch, rodeo, fiesta), and strong ties to family and religion--are now a part of the American tradition. The Mexican American Family Album is the record of generations of Mexicans who made the journey from the old country to a new life
in the United States, told in their own words and photographs.

Great book.......1998-10-14

I would suggest this book to anyone interested in Mexicans, Mexican-Americans or immigration. Although it is geared for a younger group, it's useful and actually fun for everyone to read. I highly reccomend it!

Barrett regarding the investigation of former Clinton Administration Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Henry Cisneros. It also includes all related material, including information on Barrett's appointment, court order, biography, indictments, pleadings and briefs, court opinions, and pardons.

In the press release concerning the release of the final report, Barrett's office wrote:

"In the latter half of 1994, accusations surfaced that then Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry G. Cisneros had made false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") in late 1992 and early 1993, when the agency was conducting a routine background investigation for his appointment and confirmation. The false statements concerned monetary payments he had made to Linda Medlar, with whom he had had an extramarital affair in the late 1980s. Cisneros allegedly had seriously misstated the amount and frequency of the payments he had made to her. The controversy over Cisneros's false statements came into the public eye in 1994 when Medlar filed a lawsuit against Cisneros and soon afterward revealed that she had secretly taped many of their telephone conversations. In some of the tapes she had made, she and Cisneros had discussed Cisneros's statements to FBI agents and others, and related matters.

The false statement accusations prompted the Attorney General to initiate a preliminary investigation pursuant to the Independent Counsel Act, 28 U.S.C. § 591 et seq., to determine whether to ask for the appointment of an independent counsel. Following an extended investigation, the Attorney General applied to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Division for the Purpose of Appointing Independent Counsels ("Special Division") for the appointment of an independent counsel. The Special Division appointed David M. Barrett as Independent Counsel on May 24, 1995. It gave him the power and duty to investigate fully and, if necessary, to prosecute offenses arising from any false statements that Cisneros had made to the FBI during the background investigation leading to his appointment as HUD Secretary. The appointment order also gave the Independent Counsel jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute any person or entity for conspiracy to make such false statements, any related offenses, and any criminal interference with the Independent Counsel's investigation.

On October 24, 2005, the Special Division granted the Independent Counsel's motion to publish his Final Report to the extent of the material concerning the investigation of Secretary Cisneros and persons associated with him. The publication order and accompanying opinion denied the motion as to the publication of material relating to the Independent Counsel's "investigations of alleged obstructions of justice and tax related matters" found in Section V of the Report. The Court did order that sealed copies of Section V be provided to certain Member of Congress. That order was supplemented by a December 13, 2005 order, in which the Court stated that all materials released to Congress should also be released to the public. On January 19, 2006, the Special Division authorized the public release of this office's Final Report, with some redactions."
