A Primer on the Shih Tzu.......2000-06-12

"Dr. Ackerman's Book of Shih Tzu" is a good starting point. It has excellent photos illustrating dental hygiene, nail trimming, ear cleaning and paw trimming. This book gives good suggestions on choosing a puppy and the Shih Tzu's nutrition. If you are a beginner with this breed and just want an overall view, this would be a good book to start with.

I have dreamed of owning a shih tzu eversince I laid my eyes on that breed. Then, one day, I decided to get one for myself, thinking and I really thought that am already prepared and have the knowledge for the task of owning one. Yet behold! I was wrong, I found myself having lots of question pertaining to this breed. I began searching for books and eventually found this adoring and very helpful book that answered all my troubles and worries about my shih tzu. I have read the book from cover to cover yet am still continuing to read it as day goes by, I just can't help but read all over again. i originally borrowed this book from the library and wound up re-borrowing it so much that i decided to buy it (a rarity for me). since then, i keep it in my satchel which is always in reach. i am currently designing and installing a new garden, and many of the combinations i will use are from this book.

the author's comments and experiences are instructive, humorous and well written. indeed, i would not mind reading any writing he might produce.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This book took me from color to design to planning borders so that something is in bloom all the time. The photographs provided identification of plants and I have found myself returning to them again and again to study the author's compositions. I also shared his views on gardening's place in one's life. Highly recommend.

Patrick Lima is without question my favorite garden writer. He is knowledgable and witty, and really offers comprehensive material for gardening with perennials in a zone 4 region. I can't recommend this book highly enough. John's photos are spectacular.

Patrick Lima and John Scanlan once again have produced a lovely and informative book for gardeners. I am writing from zone 2, where gardening is a challenge! I found many useful ideas, and practical "how-to's". I have read it from cover to cover, and wait eagerly for the snow to melt, so I can try some of their ideas. Buy this book, it is money well spent!

An exciting resource.......2002-11-27

This book is part of a series of nine books that look at various aspects of ancient technology. The book I acquired was from the 1966 edition, and may be different from other editions. This one has three hefty chapters: Heat and Heating; Refrigeration, The Art of Cooling and Producing Cold; and Light. The chapter on heating has everything on fuels and the application of heating technology. The cooling chapter covers such things as snow, cooling through evaporation, and psykters for wine cooling. And finally, the light section covers torches, tapers, candles and lamps.

This is an exciting resource. It covers absolutely everything on each of the topics, giving the reader an in-depth understanding of the subjects! This book was written by an expert in the field, and attempts to explain fully everything that it covers. So, if you are at all interested in these subjects, then I highly recommend that you get this book.

Interesting but Flawed.......1999-12-18

This is not a bad effort at providing a general overview of the subject for young readers, but it is also not a very reliable treatment of the topic for readers seeking thoroughness and historical accuracy. There are plenty of historical errors (for starters, Dolf Luque did not pitch in both the 1918 and 1919 World Series and the Havana Sugar Kings of the International League did not exist for 13 years, but only seven), and there is also more than a reasonable dose of typographical errors. Most distracting from the effort, however, is the author's overlooking in his bibliographical citations of many of the previous important works on the same topic.
