Explore the Georgia most tourists never see, including the Day Butterfly Center in Pine Mountain, Col. Oscar Poole's Pig Hill of Fame in Ellijay, and a toenail that might very well have belonged to Elvis at the Loudermilk Boardinghouse Museum in Cornelia.

5 out of 5 stars A good little inexpensive guide .......2004-12-28

I used this guidebook recently for a brief visit to Georgia. It guided me to Okefeenokee swamp park, the town of Brunswick, and the Ocmulgee National Monument. I will use the guide again on my next trip.

The guidebook divides Georgia into seven regions and lists interesting places to stay, old-time restaurants, museums and art galleries, annual events, and assorted trivia. Sidebars recount tidbits of Georgia history and contain delectable recipes for regional dishes such as Brunswick stew and seafood. This guidebook is light and small and well-organized and all you need to find your way to interesting spots, especially if you're the sort of person who's allergic to shopping malls and cooker-cutter hotels and restaurants

5 out of 5 stars Vegetables exotic and domestic and historic origins.......2002-01-05

Excellent color photos and descriptions of vegetables both common and specialty types. Includes geographic and historic origins of those cultivated. Also includes information on many plants eaten as vegetables, but primarily found in the wild. Broken down by vegetable. Very easy to read. Includes information on common pests and diseases for the home gardener and the pictures and flavor descriptions are great for planning your garden.

5 out of 5 stars A well researched and comprehensive guide.......1999-08-31

Vegetables by Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix is by far the most informative book I have ever read and seen on the subject. It has been well researched with history of all the various vegetables, and contains excellent photographs. I found it in my local Library, but after a few minutes knew I had to own a copy. It could be refered to as the vegetable gardeners Bible.

"While some may take issue with aspects of Mr. Coleman's oeuvre of humanist criticism, none would deny that as this country's first and foremost photo critic he has made a singular contribution to the field, broadening both the definition and discussion of photography.

" A collection of his writings from 1968-1978 called Light Readings has long been a must-read for anyone serious about photography, and has now been reissued in an expanded second edition. . . . And for those up to the challenge, there is his latest book of essays, Depth of Field, in which he distills three decades of thought on the bigger questions, such as 'Where did photography come from?' and 'Where might we be heading with it at the end of this century?'"

                      Book Description

Where did photography come from? What has it meant to us until now? How are we presently perceiving it? Where might we be heading with it at the end of this century? These are the recurring questions that Coleman addresses throughout this provocative collection of essays. Beginning with The Destruction Business, a meditation on the work of the critic, Coleman goes on to scrutinize a diverse yet connected set of issues, among them the perils and pitfalls of ideologically driven historianship (in case studies of William Mortensen and Edward S. Curtis); the effect of computerization on photography and art education; the transformative impact of the lens on Western culture; and the ethical issues raised by street photography.

5 out of 5 stars His Life As Told By His Mother.......2006-05-24

I suppose a mother couldn't tell his story any better and she did a good job, although in reading other articles about Freddie's life, it appears that she left certain things out, like his prior suicide attempt (how serious it was I don't know) when his first love left him, that he used to play Russian Roulette with his gun, that he started using cocaine at age 16 and that there was a suicide note. I don't remember reading any of this in the book, but I read this in 'Morbid Curiosity-Celebrity Tombstones Across America'. Quite possibly she figured the readers didn't need ALL the gory details.

I don't know--Freddie seemed like a really good guy and a great son, but I did find him demanding and mostly thinking of himself before others. He wanted to get to the top and wouldn't stop until he got there. But like his manager Ron DiBlasio said at Freddie's funeral that "...he remained a child in a very adult world." Another example of Hollywood destroying a life.

Freddie deserves to always be remembered, and I am glad his mother wrote this book to perpetuate his memory.

5 out of 5 stars Freddie Prinze Sr........2004-08-20

I read this book over and over again and I love it. It gives you alot of information from the day he was born until he died. I thought his mother did an exceptional job writing this book and letting the newer generation know his legacy. Reading this book I felt like I was there. I definetly give this book 5 stars and recommened any fan of Freddie Prinze Sr. to buy it.

2 out of 5 stars Penetrating Biography by a Master.......2001-04-04

Much like Boswell's Life of Johnson, this book sacrifices some measure of objectivity and thoroughness to achieve a complete and convincing portrait of the subject in question. Basing her work on the 25 years she has known Prinze, Catalano brings to life the garrulous, insatiable, charming man. The work does drag a bit near the beginning, but bildungsroman has ever been the bête noir of biography. A classic which every bibliophile should own.

                          5 out of 5 stars I loved it!.......2000-08-09

This book was great. When I went to Borders bookstore, I looked and looked for a Freddie biography, and this was the only one there. I am looking forward to finding the others too, but this one was excellent! it was entertaining, and provided a lot of good information, about his childhood, and about his movies. I am a big fan of Freddie's, and this book made me want to see his earlier works a lot more (To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, The House of Yes). Freddie fans will enjoy this book! And even if you're not a Freddie fan... well, try it anyway. It's worth reading. =) The only problem is that it was written before some changes occured, such as Freddie and Kimberly breaking up, so it was a little irritating to read about them going out. But it was still factual (of the time that it was written) and it was helpful to know who she was, and how their lives were intertwined. Anyway, read the book, it's enjoyable!

Real-Life Reader Biographies present the lives of contemporary role models for young readers. These are the stories of real men and women who, despite many obstacles, followed their dreams.

Freddie Prinze, Jr., never wants to talk about his famous father, the first Puerto Rican sitcom star in Hollywood ("Chico and the Man"), who shot himself when he was just twenty-two years old. He left behind a wife, ten-month old Freddie, Jr., and millions of adoring fans. Freddie, Jr., never knew him and he doesn't want to dwell on the past. What Freddie, Jr., does want, however, is a successful film career, something his father never saw. And he wants to say that he learned a few lessons from his father: he will never go near drugs.

Launched to stardom after he appeared in the teen horror films I Know What You Did Last Summer and it's sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Freddie then took on his first romantic leading role in She's All That. But as his career takes off, he is careful not to tread where his father has gone before him. He wants his star to shine for a very long time.

This was one of the best books I have read about Freddie Prinze Jr. Although there is a chapter in there about his former relationship with Kim McCullough (and now he's engaged to Sarah Michelle), everything in there was factual, well-written and easy to read. The author kept the fluff minimal and her points sharp when she wrote this one! There is only the meat of Freddie's life in this one, no garbage to filter through. A MUST READ FOR ALL FREDDIE FANS!!!!!!

I thought this biography of Freddie Prinze Jr. was well written and interesting. As a Freddie fan there were many things I learned from this book that I never would have known through his movies. Even if you aren't a Freddie fan it's still an interesting story to read. I also recommend the biography of Freddie written by Marc Shapiro. That one is a little more detailed and also worth reading.
