Decades ago, Robert Benchley wrote that there are two ways to travel: first class and with children. Had Ms. Bates and Ms. Latempa written this book before Benchley made his remark, he might not have said it.

Storybook Travels is helpful in bringing parents and children into the same experiences -- reading together and traveling together -- with enjoyment. This book is a must for all readers and travelers. What better way to engage your children in your travel experience?

Our family gives this book and a few of the books referred to within it as gifts at birthday parties and baby showers. It is always a hit!

Thanks to authors Bates and Latempa for their delightful and intelligent approach to traveling with kids. We have used books such as Linnea in Monet's Garden, Eloise in Paris, and the Madeleine books in our travels to Paris, but what's impressive about this book is the way the authors have drawn on so many other children's classics as a backdrop for family travel. I write about family travel myself and highly recommend this book --it's a good read whether you are packing to go, or just happy as an armchair traveler.

Thirty international locales from books aimed at 3- to 13-year olds are described. You can tell moms wrote this book. It's entertaining AND practical. The material is fascinating, well written, and tells you everything you could want to know (except maybe where the bathrooms are located). The contact information makes this an invaluable resource. I hope the authors will continue to write more of these wonderful family travel guides.

IT'S GREAT TO HAVE A PROJECT WHEN PLANNING A TRIP, AND IT WILL GIVE ME A SOURCE OF CONVERSATION WITH THEM AND A WAY OF DISCOVERING WHAT BOOKS THEY REALLY ENJOY. An Excellent Ovverview of the Subject.......2001-06-21

In this survey of the interaction between military, political and social forces in the hundred years that started with the rise of Bismarkian Prussia, a good overview is provided of the major trends and developments, these being well-anchored in the main historical events. A strength of the book is that it preserves the correct balance between detail and overview - enough detail to maintain interest and colour, enough overview to ensure that developments are always seen in the wider historical, cultural and political context. A criticism of the book is however that by an excessive focus on the European scene it underplays the extent to which developments elsewhere - most notably the American Civil War and the Russo-Japanese War - could have profoundly influenced the course of European Military and Political thinking, had they been better analysed, with incalculable consequences for the conduct of World War One. One also notes how the indications as to the global potential of the United States which arose from the Spanish-American War seem to as much ignored today as they were at the time. These minor criticisms aside, the book would provide an excellent introduction to anyone undertaking a study of Modern European history and seeking pointers for further areas to explore as regards the impact of military developments.

I have no idea what the naysayers on the other reviews were so disappointed about. This book has wonderful variety, excellent descriptions and layout. If you can't find something to use on your craft project you aren't very creative. Wonderful ideas and examples of how to apply to different mediums. Would recommend to any crafter looking for non-copywrited patterns and designs of all types, age ranges and genres of dragon lore. I will be looking to purchase more of the author other works, from tattoo art to celtic patterns.

Great Book of Dragon Patterns.......2007-09-05

I really liked the Dragon Art in this book and they show how to draw the dragons. Images can also be copied or traced for other craft projects. Would recommend for ages 10 and up.

Gift for 13 year old.......2007-08-10

When this book arrived at my home I flipped through it, and got hooked on the details on the creatures. They say you should learn something new everyday and that day I discovered there are many different kinds of dragons and other magical creatures. My Granddaughter, who received the book as a birthday book says she can now do the drawings for the "Dragon" book she's writing.

Could Have Done Better.......2003-08-29

"Dog Days" is a photo album for dogs. The pages feature different themes (for instance, "Games", "Fondest Memories", and "Briefly Sentimental"), each with corresponding graphics. Each page is covered with graphics and a colorful background; while this makes the album fun to look at, it also leaves a little less room for pictures. My solution was to place photos over the graphics that I wasn't too fond of.

However, many of the pages have dotted outlines in which you're supposed to place your photos. Problem is, none of my photos matched the outline perfectly, so the result was an album that looked a bit sloppy, with lots of unattractive dotted lines visible. Additionally, some of the drawings were a bit cheesy and clumsily done. Not to mention, a few of the themes didn't seem too well-thought out - I mean, who takes a picture of their dog when they're at the vet!?

The album is meant mostly for photos; there are very few places that are designated specifically for writing - though I suppose you could still write on them if you'd prefer. None of the pages are lined for script.

The pages are sturdy and durable. The book is spiral-bound, which makes it easier to attach photos to the pages (i.e., you don't have a crease where pages are bound together at the spine). However, the wire spiral is designed so that some of the back pages come undone if you're not careful. I've tried to tighten the spirals, to no avail.

"Dog Days" is about as big as a medium-sized book; the largest photos it will fit are approximately 5.5"x8.5". It has a hard cover that wraps around the spiral binding so that it isn't visible.

I've found that the best way to stick photos to the pages are by using mounting stickers on the backs of the photos along with one-sided corners for reinforcement.

I've bought a number of animal albums, and "Dog Days" is the best dog album I've found so far - though that isn't saying too much, since I haven't seen any dog albums I really like. The feline version of "Dog Days" is "Nine Lines: A Journal for My Cat", by Louise Reinoehl Max. "Nine Lives" has a much more elegant and attractive design, with appealing graphics and *no* outlines for photos.

Great Way to Remember Your Dog.......2000-06-13

This book allows a lot of room for pictures and stories. It is very colorful and provokes many ideas. This book is a great way to remember a dog that passed on, or to rejoice in the friendship of your dog now.

Somewhat disappointing biography of a South Texas legend.......1998-06-15

Reynaldo G. Garza is a giant in the political and legal history of Texas and is most deserving of biographical treatment. All Rise successfully recounts many of the highlights of Judge Garza's life and career. It ultimately disappoints, however. First, the author lacks the legal background necessary to explain the significance of many of Judge Garza's judicial opinions. Second, the book fails to fully introduce the reader to the biographical subject himself, leaving him portrayed as two-dimensional and leaving the reader wanting more.
