A must have for any surf strip.......2007-09-24

This is the updated version (2006) of the already very good Stormrider guide Europe book. More and updated info, maps and pics on the usual spots as well as some new ones that have been added. A must have for anyone considering venturing out on a surf trip around europe and/or Morocco. Includes northern europe, portugal, spain and the mediterranean as well as morocco.

This and all the Stormrider Guides are truely great sources of information about surf travel. Cleverly put together, have beautiful illustrations, and are packed with all the necessary information you need to start planning your surf adventure and travel. The Bible of Surfing Europe.......2001-03-10

This is the most awesome book on surfing Europe imaginable, covering all the best spots (and then some) from Scotland to Italy, from the Azores to Germany, and everywhere inbetween! Surf in Amsterdam? You betcha! It also includes Morocco. It is full of incredibly professional high-tech, accurate maps, pictures, write-ups, and gauges a variety of conditions for each spot- such as water temp, crowd factor, quality of wave, direction wave breaks, power of wave, ocean (break) bottom, what sort of rubber you'll need, etc. Since you'll notice that Amazon is often out of stock on this, or that it takes '3-5- weeks for delivery', I recommend surfing to Amazon.com's UK site (amazon.com.uk) and ordering directly from them in England- you'll pay a little more for shipping, but they usually have it in stock and you'll be sure to get your copy sooner. This is thee Surf Bible of Europe!

A Treasure Chest for the Travelling Surfer.......1999-12-14

This book proved to be a very valuable resource of valid and accurate information pertaining to surf spots I have visited last summer in Europe. I surfed northern denmark and germany, and even though these are not very common surf spots, the book had information about spots, and it was a great help. This book not only attempts to provide information on the surf-quality of the particular spot, it also gives a little bit of insight in the surf culture of the area and other information and tips that might not seen obvious at first glance but does prove to be very interesting and worth reading. Unlike atravel agent's brochure it is very unbiased and allows surfers to travel "their way". In Planning my surf trip to France nex summer, this book gave me a place for reference and also allowed me to "float" around in it, checking out this spot or another. The thousands of photographs give the spots a face, making the book not only informational but also very entertaining to read. It lets the reader dream of a perfect vacation and then proves a very valuable tool to realize that dream and turn it into a reality.

Recent discoveries, however, are undermining ancient Mesopotamia's status as the origin of writing. In 1998, a German archaeologist discovered writing at the tomb of King Scorpion the First in Abydos, near Luxor, in Egypt. He says that this writing dates back to 3400 B.C., a few hundred years before the earliest known Mesopotamian writing. The writing was discovered both on pottery and clay tablets. In 1999, American archaeologists digging at the ancient site of Harappa in Pakistan discovered what they say is writing that dates back to around 3500 B.C. Harappa was at that time a major city in the ancient Indus Valley civilization which dominated western India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. While both early Mesopotamian and Egyptian writing is clearly related to trade, the ancient Indus script has still not been deciphered.

While neither the ancient Egyptian nor Indus discoveries conclusively prove that one civilization can claim to have invented writing, these discoveries suggest that writing developed simultaneously and perhaps independently in a number of places.
Who knows what will be found next. Keep an open mind.

Not the first written language!.......1999-05-13

Cuneiform. Sound familiar? The writings of the ancient summerians on clay tablets are some of the oldest forms of structured writen language known to man. Please don't say that this is the oldest form of written language that is a false statement and your activity book is good enough to stand on its own merits. A few friendly words from an anthropologist.

Great overview but not enough details.......2005-03-07

I found this book quite helpful in idenitifying plants in my new yard. Since I did not have the luxury of asking the previous home owner what was planted, I have had to rely heavily on this book to tell me what I have. The down side is that while the book has beautiful photos, it does not give many details. So if you you are looking to know every little thing about a plant then this is not the book for you.

Great pictures but ........................2003-11-27

Given the fact that the publication is dated 2003, I would have thought that the book would at a minimum reference most plants in existence today. I have many plants in my garden which are yet to be found in the book...Being from the Caribbean, I thought for a moment that the word American was missing from the title however, many of the plants to which I refer are found in the USA ... in particular in Florida...strange!

The content under the heading 'Cultivation' is very general and extremely high level, not sufficient to properly guide one in growing flowers, as we all know in many instances the requirements do differ depending on the hybrid..

Great book for pictures and perhaps for persons who just need an overview of types of flowers in existence but not for a serious gardener.....lots more work needed
