The most comprehensive guide to Paris.......2001-04-27

This book covers the sites (not restaurants or hotels - they are in a different book) of every neighborhood of Paris in extraordinary depth. It is an indispensible tool for visiting the city.

The shortcoming of the book is that it provides little assistance in planning and prioritizing your trip. If you are looking for sites in a particular neighborhood, or know what you want to see - this guide will get you there and give you the background information you need.

Like an encyclopedia - it has a lot of information, but you have to know what you are looking for to make it useful. A perfect complement to the Green Guide is a book like Rick Steve's Paris 2001 - which helps in organizing and prioritizing your trip, but covers only the most popular sites in the city.

The Only First Class Paris Travel Guide.......2000-03-16

The Michelin Paris Green Guide is the Cadillac of the Paris travel guides - I wouldn't recommend visiting Paris without it, no matter how well you may think you know the city. Michelin has been around for so long, and is so closely tied to the French culture, you can't go wrong with their recommendations. This is the only travel publication that really gets a traveller into the spirit of Paris. The Michelin 3-star ratings are trusted worldwide, and there's a reason why. I've never been disappointed with a Michelin recommended establishment. Travelling in Europe can be very intimidating, especially when you don't speak the language, but the 3-star ratings made it possible for us to prioritize our outings. The Paris Green Guide made me feel like an insider. The detailed maps include recommended walking tours - a great way to see the sights up close without getting lost! The color photos are beautifully arranged, but the real advantage of this book is that it offers substance over "fluff" - something sadly lacking in many travel books. The great Paris sights are all arranged in alphabetical order, and once you know the name of the sight you'd like to read about, it's right at your fingertips. The detailed information provided for each sight allows you to read as much or as little as you'd like about your destination. This works well for us because my husband is a real history buff and likes all the details in advance, while I prefer to have more of an overview of what I'm about to see, and then I like to go back and get the details after I've seen the sight. The small area maps are also a great feature - we particularly appreciated the museum maps. You can truly get lost in the Louvre, but as long as we had the Green Guide in our bag, we knew we wouldn't miss the highlights we really wanted to see. For practical information (time changes, weather patterns, currency exchange, etc.), the Green Guide offers a special quick reference section in the back of the book. I would highly recommend the Paris Green Guide to anyone visiting Paris - whether it's your first time or you're a seasoned pro - you will appreciate the expertise offered in this first class travel book.

Wow, what a disappointment........1999-12-03

Let me start by saying I own at least a dozen (if not more) Michelin Green Guides. This was a real let down. The organization was terrible. For example, the book is supposed to be in alphabetical order but some places are listed under their own name i.e. Louvre and others are listed under their location - NOT ARONDISSMENT- i.e. St. Germain. This makes it extremely confusing to figure out where to find the monument, museum, etc. that you're trying to visit.

Also, the index at the back is completely useless. Some places are entered in French alphabetical order and some in English. A lot of places don't even appear in the index at all. This is especially annoying since the main section of the book is so disorganized.

I guess this is really a 3 star book when you compare it to others but it really doesn't live up to Michelin standards. I will still buy other versions for other locations but I suggest you skip this one.

As a lecturer at a California University, I have yet to come across a book more resourceful than this.
It is the best book on drawing, from an educational standpoint, yet written.
Every college professor in the Arts the world over should have this book in their reference collection.

One of the Best.......2001-10-30

There are many great books about drawing in print. This book has some of the greatest elements of them all. It includes no-nonsense instruction for drawing exercises that really help people learn to draw well. It includes a lot of examples of student work and work by masters. It has a special focus on the work of contemporary artists, and I think this is one of the things I find most compelling about the book. The appendices are very helpful, especially the one about keeping a sketchbook. A wide range of approaches and media are discussed.

I used this lovely book as a text for a college-level beginning drawing course when it first came out about 20 years ago. I used it through the second edition of the text, and then switched to another book. After using two different texts and then no text for a while, I am returning to the Betti/Sale text. ...

As an educator I use theis book all the time. It's approch towards drawing is excellent to the classroom and for the artist. I tell everyone to make sure they have a copy on the shelf.

Not an objective viewpoint.......2007-09-27

This author is well-known for his disparagement of alternative therapies. Do not buy this book if you are looking into alternative therapies for your animals as the author is strictly a "Western Medicine" kind of
guy and very biased. Having used chiropractic, homeopathic, and acupressure on my horses, dogs, and cats, alternative therapy is extremely helpful when provided by a competent and trained professional. Research your practioner's training and background. See "Homeopathy for Horses" by Tim Couzens, "Veterinary Acupuncture" or "Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Medicine: Principles and Practice" by Allen M. Schoen. All excellent reference for the holistic practitioner.

was very disappointed and felt the author did a disservice to balanced critical review and assessment. I did agree with a number of the findings in the books but the author should have provided less personal opinion and adhered to balanced scientific review rather than providing sweeping generalisations of certain therapeutic modalities. Absolutely regret having bought this book.

Consumer's Guide to Alternative Therapies in the Horse.......2006-04-01

This book is a waste of money for people who are looking for good information on alternative care for their horse. The author considers any method other than his own to be unfounded and of no benefit. Could we say he is coming from a very egotistical point of view? I wonder how we and all the animals survived the thousands of years before modern medicine and his birth! The cover of the book is also cleverly laid out in order to trick the consumer who is interested in learning about alternative therapies into thinking the book will give them information on learning how to use complementary care. This was a total waste of my money.

Very Disappointing. The Author sets out "open mindedly" to investigate numerous alternative therapies for horses and proceeds to discredit each and every one of the therapies, concluding that the horse owner should revert to consulting the Veterinarian. A desperate attempt to preserve the Veterinary Profession.

Author bias against Alternative Therapies.......2002-11-09

Given the interest of many regarding alternative and complementary therapies, I think it should be mentioned that while the author does have some good points, he does not believe that these modalities should be taught in veterinary school, nor does he ever advocate their use in any journal article he has written. All of his articles ridicule the use of these therapies. It is as if he has a mission to keep alternative and complementary therapies from being used among veterinarians. Yes, he does have some good points about lack of trials for evidence. But there are many articles written and published about this growing field, and there are plenty, plenty, plenty of medical practices we take for granted that have never been tested with clinical trials. So take from it what you will, but know that he has not published any article with a positive light on this subject.

Same Old Stuff.......2004-12-03

While I have seen Dr. in person and his presentation is good. This book has the same overtone of the self-help diatribe that permeates our society. Dr. Henry has taken his tales of his life and written them out, and then carbon copying a "verse" to fit the moment. Stories amusing, yes... but how many times can you write the same thing over and over again. After I had seen Dr. Henry in person, I came to expect more than the usual mass produced "stuff and fluff" from the man. Immediate effect - caused me to chuckle occasionally, Long term effect - sell it on amazon and recoup some cost cause one time will do you.

Dale Henry makes learning fun. Truly an original, he brings the wisdom of Proverbs to life through personal experiences, sometimes quite moving and often hilarious. He is the friendly uncle or older brother whose stories you love to hear, and whose advice you respect. Insightful, never preachy, and a whole lot of fun.

Anyone who shies away from this book due to Dale Henry's openly Christian beliefs is doing themselves a huge disservice. These principles are good, right and true whether you are Christian or not, and are well worth the read.

A Different Cracker Jack Book.......2002-05-01

I love looking through this book, admiring the prizes and reading the history. It's different from Larry White's excellent book in that it offers a little different take on the history and provides more reading. It isn't as good for the collector looking for prices or even looking for specific toys as it doesn't list prices or show the variety of toys as White's book does but it is an excellent picture book. Pictures are large and very clear. I have many of the toys pictured but the pictures are clearer than looking at the real thing, they're great. If your a beginning collector buy White's "Cracker Jack Toys, The Complete Unofficial Guide For Collectors" first but definitely buy Jaramillo's book. It is a beautiful hardcover picture history book every collector should have. The cover is even modeled after an old Cracker Jack prize with a turning wheel. The book has 96 pages.

As in his other books on Yellowstone, Schullery synthesizes history, science, and memoir into an engaging and engrossing read. I have spent years around the park and this book contained much that was new to me. There is a warmth and a dignity to Schullery's writing that befits our oldest national park.

Unusual for an on-the-record Park Service employee, Schullery does have his own opinions. There are friends and enemies. In the twenty years since this book was originally published, the world of Yellowstone has changed. Its greatest threat does not come from extractive and exploitative corporations, nor a complicitous government, nor even from the dingbat Congressional delegation attached to its home states. Rather, it comes from the citizenry that most professes to cherish the resource. People like you and me who are loving it to death, slicing subdivisions into critical habitat in a fevered quest for their piece of the West.

Ahhh, but Yellowstone belongs as much to the sunburned bricklayer from Ohio and his sausage-legged wife as it does to me. Schullery understands that this land was made for you and me, no matter how difficult the mediation between user groups. And as the title of the book reminds us, Yellowstone is indeed on mountain time. All the snowmobilers and timber company executives and tree-hugging commies who visit the park this year will be rotting in their graves in a hundred years but Yellowstone will endure in spite of us.

Schullery is very witty and offers accounts of the crazy encounters of those touring this grand daddy of all natural attractions.

This is a great book for anyone who is a fan, but also a real treat for people living in the metro-Detroit area, as a few of the celebrities asked are local TV and radio stars. She wrote to a lot of people over the years and has a great collection of stars' heroes, from Soupy Sales to Les Paul and of course Davy Jones! It's neat to find out who inspired the celebrities to be who they are today.

Mary Guerra is an authority on fandom as she is a member of a fanclub or two herself. I know this since she belongs to the fanclub I run for Davy Jones, Davy Devotees. Though the concept of fandom is normally perceived as being something the nonfamous possess, Mary spent years contacting various celebrities asking them just who they consider themselves a fan of and what fanclubs they would join if they could! She received personal responses from legends in the field of entertainment like RoseMarie and Phyllis Diller to Les Paul, inventor of the electric guitar, Richard Petty, of racing fame, columnist, Liz Smith and "Mr. Hockey" Gordie Howe. Shirley Jones, Peter Noone and Mary's personal favorite, Davy Jones of The Monkees, are just a few of the many other highlighted celebrities. If you've been a fan of anyone at anytime, this book gives you an interesting look at who those we admire actually admire. At times the featured celebrities provide laughs and at other times intriguing revelations. Overall this is a fun read with a lot of heart!

This book is fabulous. My husband and I found it to be a quick, entertaining read. We particularly enjoyed the entry from Mike Clark, our favorite radio DJ. It's interesting to see what people celebrities find heroic, and it conveys more of an inside look into their personality as well.
