This is an excellent book for sites and all. I left it behind when I went to Greece and brought a bigger more detailed competitors book. But when I got back, I realized this would have been fine and superior in many ways.

This is a beautiful book full of amazing National Geographic-quality photos of Greece. However, it is not so great as a traditional tour book. If you want a true tour book, this is probably not the one you want.

This book has wonderful pictures, which is why I bought it. It doesn't have a lot of practical information about hotels and such, but it will give you ideas about what you'd enjoy seeing, then you can go to the Rough Guide or something for the nuts and bolts.

Explorers by Philip Wilkinson is the beautifully illustrated story of the men who explored the wide and unknown world. From the Vikings who traveled the seas, to Marco Polo and his forays along the great Silk Road into China, to David Livingstone trekking along the African Nile, to Francis Drake who circled the globe in a wooden ship, to the Lewis and Clark expedition to the American West, to the mountain climbing expeditions of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, to the deep sea excursions of Jacque Costeau, Explorers chronicles some of the most important explorations of history. Highly recommended for both school and community library collections, Explorers is enhanced with sections explaining how explorers planned and prepared for their trips, the tools and equipment they used, and the mapping techniques they employed and which were used by the others who came after them.

Even If You Have All His Albums..........2002-03-21

There is the beautiful book cover in purple, there are the lyrics printed in verse format...but mostly , there are the scrawling, handwritten notations of a [pick your adjective]

madman/poet/devout/philosopher/philanderer.

And the drawings Nick Cave makes...oh my, he seems to be at war with himself and that is Really interesting. You will enjoy seeing different lyric versions, and his writing in progress as things get crossed out and then re-written. This book is definitely a must have for the Nick Cave devotee.

Essential Cave, shows his growth.......2001-12-12

A big improvement over his first King Ink collection, this book shows just how far Nick Cave has come as a songwriter. Collecting his lyrics from his masterpiece Tender Prey all the way through his masterpiece The Boatman's Call, this shows Cave tackling broader subjects with an ever-more-eloquent pen, but staying "chained to the same bowl of vomit" as he puts it, returning again and again to the recurring themes of love, loss, God, and death. He delves deep into these themes in all their revertebrations. This book also includes lyrics to songs that have thus far remained unpublished, or were written for other artists, as well as a short "movie treatment." Also included is a manuscript of his essay "The Flesh Made Word", long adorned by Cave afficiandos, which probably makes it worth the price of the book alone for them, just being able to have a printed copy of this masterful essay. Reading this - you can also hear him dictate it on his CD, "The Secret Life of The Love Song/The Flesh Made Word: Two Essays By Nick Cave" - you can see why he was chosen to write the forward for a version of The Gospel According To Mark. Cave is a true talent, and this proves it. Essential for all admirers.

Brilliantly Twisted.......2000-04-19

Nick Cave has developed much since the publishing of King Ink volume I. A clearer style is developing, much different from the frenetic ravings in the previous book, a style more inspired by the recurring themes of loss and redemption. Some of Cave's beautifully crafted melancholy poems are simply perfect down to the last detail, though his fiery passionate bits are equally brilliant.

Bottom Line: If you like Cave and his newer style - go ahead. If you're into gloomy poetry, or just great use of language - go ahead.

Gorgeous little book! .......2006-02-27

What a great little book! I had heard others talk about it so decided to get a copy for myself. I was quite surprised at how small the format is - the book is quite thick but measures only about 5" x 5", which is the only reason I give it a 4 star rating rather than 5. The quality of the photographs deserve a large format coffee table book. The photos are breathtaking - lots of closeups and interesting angles - fabulous pictures of sporting horses as well as horses just hanging out doing their thing. Text is minimal - this book is a feast for the eyes. Recommend for any horse enthusiast.
