I have been to Ecuador a number of times, but I didn't know what I was missing until I purchased "Trekking in Ecuador". Contained in this book is all of the information you need to plan a great trekking advanture to Ecuador. The treks are easy to follow and offer some of the greatest scenery in the world. Ecuador stole my heart on my very first visit, and with this book I was able to see even deeper into her soul.

Robert and Daisy have compiled an incredible book not only in its diversity of trekking options, but in the quality, accessibility and remoteness of each one. If you are Trekking in Ecuador: You Need This BOOK!.......2004-03-12

This book is a must have for those interested in trekking in Ecuador. It provides numerous hikes that are broken down into ranges of difficulty. These treks will get you off the beaten path and into undiscovered Ecuador where you can see the real Ecuador and meet its enchanting people. We are Peace Corps volunteers in Ecuador and learned about this great book from other volunteers. It keeps getting passed down from one group to the next.

Passed the boot test with flying colours........2004-01-30

I recently spent a month trekking in Ecuador with this guidebook and I would recommend it to anybody interested in hiking in this beautiful country. There is something for everyone with short dayhikes near travelling hubs, week long treks through remote mountains, hikes that end in hotsprings and hikes that take you in search of the elusive Ecuadorian wild orchid. This guidebook contains all the information you need to set out on your own and the hikes I did were unforgetable. I waited untill Quito to buy a guidebook so I could compare all the books available and I can say now that this is, by far, the best hiking guide for the country. I will be back in Ecuador to walk some more of the beautiful trails described in Trekking in Ecuador.

Tried and True.......2004-01-23

On a recent month long trip to Ecuador I boot-tested three hikes in Trekking in Ecuador and was very happy with the guide. The book contains a good range of hikes from dayhikes near major travelling hubs to week long treks in glorious remote National Parks. There is an interesting variety to the hikes, one that ends in natural hotsprings, some that offer views of dramatic peaks and glaciers and a hike for those interested in seeing elusive wild Ecuadorian orchids. Although I have hiked extensively in beautiful mountain ranges all over the world, the trek "High Lakes and Ridges" is possibly one of the best hikes I have done. I was pleased to find hikes of all levels of difficulty and what a treat to hike on lesser known trails and have the mountains all to our selves. I saw Trekking with Ecuador for sale on the web before I left for Ecuador but I wanted to check my options in Quito. I definatly think that this is the best trekking guide for Ecuador and I wished I had bought it before my trip so I could have studied up. Happy trails!

Essential for Exploring Ecuador on Foot.......2004-06-01

Climbing and Hiking in Ecuador, 5th Edition was a real treasure of off-the-beaten track hikes and good descriptions of the more established routes. I spent several months exploring in Ecuador, staying out of the major cities. This book was great for getting to known the less known areas of Ecuador. Recommend some use of GPS and purchase topographic maps from the IGM, since none of the routes are marked, need to have good navigation skills.

Unless you are really heading for unconventional climbing, I do not recommend buying this book. You are better off surfing websites about climbing in Ecuador. Moreover, it is now out of date.

We found the guide useful while in Ecuador, but routes have changed on some of the peaks (Iliniza Norte, Chimbo). Definitely buy the book, but once in country talk to guides or South American Explorers Club about changes.

Essentual For Climbers.......2000-05-04

I thought this book was great for helping me discover some of good climbs and backpacking trips off the gringo trail. Many of the hikes it seems like no one explores, which I guess is a good thing. Can't wait for Columbia to settle down and hope Bradt puts together an equally good guide for that country.

Best guide to outdoors in Ecuador.......1999-05-02

We spent 2 months romping around the hills of Ecuador and this guide was indespensible. Definitely need to buy IGM maps for the more remote treks that are not on established trails. It was really fun to explore areas not ofetn visited by gringos. Ecuador is full of surprises and this guide really helped us to experience the real outdoors of the country.

Awfull! Very bad........1999-03-31

I spent three entire months in Ecuador, one climbing and the rest hiking and travelling. I am a moderately experienced technical climber, I pride myself in my navigation. I have travelled to many third world countries and used many guide books, some good, some you dont need. This is one you are better without.

Rob you have never climbed most of the peaks you describe, they havnt changed that much. I would have been better without this misleading guide book. I'm glad I never bumped into you after I climbed Tungurahua, or Pasachoa or Corazon.

Please do not commit to any long hikes or strenuous climbs on the information of this book alone, you will regret it.

If you ask the average Ecuadorian mountain "guide" the way up a mountain he will give you bad directions because he has never actually been there. It seems this is the type of information contained in the guide. The farther away from the road the less accurate the information gets, you have never been to half these places have you Rob.

I think it sells because it is the only one out. Go to the South american Explorers club in Quito and read the trip reports rather than buy this drivel. I though it was a good read, then I actually got to Ecuador and started using it, what a joke.

Maybe its not your fault but your name is on the cover.

Fantastic! For the naturalist in every child!.......2005-12-21

A classic! A wonderful introduction to wildlife for kids. I found the book interesting in the way it helped kids empathize with animals, or at least understand their needs. Read this book to your children to help them grow into adults considerate of wild pets and animals in general.

My favorite Rood book, which is not listed that I can see, was ANIMALS NOBODY LOVES. That was a FANTASTIC book, which my husband keeps under lock and key as it is signed by Ronald Rood and given to him by Rood's parents. It's his favorite. If you can find it, it's well worth picking up at a used bookstore.

this has many deceased people, and it should really be called signatures of the stars. they are mostly biographies of people, but they do not really tell about their signatures. they have a signature of each person, but does not describe it. they do described their signing habits, but i feel that many are wrong. it is a good book to have to refer to when they were born, or just to look at their sig. it doesnt have people have many younger people like jennifer love hewitt, sarah michelle gellar, drew barrymore, etc

I bought this book to learn about the stars signing habits and see example of their signatures, so I'd know which stars would be my best bet to write to. Unfortunately, most of the stars listed in this book are DEAD! It does me no good to know the signing habits of dead celebs, since I obviously can't write to them. I bought the book in conjunction with the same author's "The Autograph Collector Celebrity Autograph Authentication Guide." While there are some signature examples in this book that aren't in the authentication guide (such as John Candy and Kathy Ireland), finding them is quite a pain because this book lacks an index. The authentication guide has an index, and practically doesn't need it because it's much better laid out than this book. The back cover of this book says that inside "you'll find the actual signatures of the stars reproduced". While that's true for most of the stars, there are very few reproductions to none at all when you get to the back of the book, in the "cast" and "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" sections. There should be authentic examples for *everyone* that is listed. To sum up this book, I think that it's trying to be too many things to too many people - price guide, authentication guide, and more ... it should stick to just one subject.

Boring layout - but fun to read.......1999-07-14

It's a nice idea and an intressting book. But I would like to have a thicker book covering more stars. This book just skimms the surface. Also there was no index, so it's hard so find the right info quickly. The layout is cheap. I want more work put into this book.

This book is a must for all autograph collectors. It describes the hottest stars and their signing habits as well as the value of their signature. If you are looking for a reference guide, this is a must

An Excellent resource for the collector and dealer.......1998-05-28

Did you know that Charles Schulz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip rarely signed his full name? He would sign just "Schulz" and would accompany it with a doodle of "Snoopy" or other Peanuts character. Did you know that a Rudolph Valentino died at a young 31 years of age and was averse to mob-scene crowds seeking autographs, making his signature very scarce? Kevin Martin's Signature Of The Stars, focuses on autographs of Hollywood, Television and Music figures, providing a brief celebrity biography, approximate value, facsimile signature, and a rating of the autograph's scarcity.

Autographs have been getting into the press lately. USA Today and other national newspapers recently covered the JFK auction of signed ephemera as a cover story. Financial writer Andrew Tobias authored a feature cover story for Worth magazine on the merits of autograph collecting as a "fun" investment. The article featured Marilyn Monroe on the cover and went on and on about the merits of autograph collecting - even detailing Tobias' own collection. With all this, you know there's some new found interest in autographs. Apparently that's how Antique Trader Publications, a rising powerhouse publisher of collector books sees it. Their Signature of the Stars, a 208 page reference title, is chockfull of interesting anecdotes and facts on over 350 celebrity and entertainment signatures.

If you're not interested in Hollywood, Television or Rock'N'Roll signatures, don't run away. The book provides insightful discussion on autograph scarcity, terminology, pen and ink technology, pricing, and how and where to get signatures. There's a difference between the way ink flows from a ball point, fountain and felt tip pen. Listen to the author, and even a neophyte collector can raise a flag of suspicion about the most highly acclaimed signature. If you'd like to know what the codes are next to the listings of autographs for sale in an auctioneer's or deal! er's catalog, you can find it in the book's section on terminology. Also mentioned in other sections are reputable dealers, auction houses, reference books and collecting organizations.

It seems that Martin has taken up where the late autograph legend, Charles Hamilton left off. In a narrow field, where there aren't many experts to begin with, there are even fewer reference titles on the subject. Signature of the Stars is a much needed title for the beginning or intermediate collector to learn from and develop their hobby successfully.

Kevin Martin is a full fledged dealer and collector of autographs and brings the reader street-smart information about value, scarcity and biographical facts about the stars whose autographs are highlighted in the book. He is an associate editor for the renowned Sanders Price Guide To Autographs - a bible in the field. He is also a columnist for Autograph Collector magazine, writing their Fakes and Forgeries column.

An introduction to tomatoes.......2002-03-18

Those first-time gardeners interested in growing tomatoes will find Tantalizing Tomatoes to be an excellent introduction to North America's most beloved fruit/vegetable. The book covers everything that one needs to know from the history of the tomato through propigation, pest control and, finally, popular tomato recipes.

Good Beginner Book.......2001-05-30

This was a good beginner book on growing tomatoes. It included some history, how-to, deciphering seed packet, and information on different varieties of tomatoes. If you are passed the beginner/novice stage, I recommend some thing a little more informative. It was an easy read and it gave me some ideas to try on my suffering tomatoe plants.

This book is a very good beginner book on growing tomatoes. It gives some history, how to, explains the seed packs, and gave me an idea on different varieties to try. If you already are pretty proficient in these things, I suggest you find something a little more informative. It did leave me with a few questions, but a lot of new ideas to try.

I found this book very boring and pointless. I kept hoping that the story would pick up or the ending would be exciting but I was left unimpressed. Many new characters and story lines were introduced in each new chapter, yet they never went anywhere. The novel was written well, but left me uninterested.

Enjoyable, insightful writing, and great showbiz gossip........2005-11-27

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It moves quickly and surely (even if its heroine doesn't!), has smarts and wit to spare, and finds a nice balance between portraying the dark side of addiction and the smart-alecky narrator's attempts to deal with it.

Along the way, you're treated also to early-1990s Hollywood gossip, if you follow it closely enough to figure it out. As in a roman a clef, Fisher sneaks dish about famous figures into every page, and if you read between the lines you can catch the jokes about Geena Davis, Harrison Ford, etc.

Gossip aside, though, this is just a well-written book. It moves quickly, making it a great read, and the humor in it is so smart and black that Fisher's characters emerge as simultaneously courageous and unsure of themselves. This makes her protagonist especially endearing, and since the book in anchored around her, it's great that she's so sympathetic.

I recommend "Postcards from the Edge." It takes a unique look at addiction by spotlighting its sources in and effects on the psyche and self-esteem.

Suzanne Vale is troubled but very appealing and relatable in this first incarnation. Her wit is sharp and speaks to issues most women have but few will acknowledge. The first time I read this I was fairly blown away by the insight and brutal honesty, and more importantly the wry approach to both. I felt vindicated in seeing some of my issues validated by Suzanne's unabashed articulation of them (The "Why? Why would you think I would want to know that?" exchange... "What is it about me that looks like I would want to know there are other smart pretty girls? Because I'll fix it. I'll change it. Is it something I'm wearing? Is my lip curled in a certain way that says, 'Got to tell her there's another bright woman around'? Why would you think I would want to know that a beautiful, gorgeous, supermarket-famous face from television is as bright and funny as I am?")

One of the earlier passages taking us first-person through a fellow drug rehab patient's series of rationalizations that takes him from swearing off drugs through doing endless hits of coke and following that up with ecstasy, heroin and whatever was in his dealer's medicine cabinet was really quite impressively executed; its few pages were far more potent than the entire D.A.R.E. program ever was.

Re-reading this years later and after reading "The Best Awful," I felt that "Postcards" was a little too self-congratulatory re: the protagonist's clever rejoinders. But I think my mid-'90s 25-year-old self would still find it seminal and deeply resonant.

Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiographical first novel gives a behind-the scenes look at the gloom behind the glamour. The only thing funnier is the movie. Fisher shows a wicked sense of humor as well as a talent for storytelling. Of course she knows the business; she's been known to act in films.

I could swear that other than the glitz and glamour this book was written from personal experiences i have had. Ms Fisher shines through in this wonderfully written, poignant account at life. A remarkable Actress...even better writer.
I also recommend Nightmares Echo and Bastard Out Of Carolina because of the style of writing
