coffee table book, not functional.......2007-05-25

this book does not provide a lot of detail for someone interested in learning about identifying trees or about learning interesting facts/basics about trees in the area. often the descriptions tell you where the tree originates, but fails to mention the needle/leaf pattern, the bark, the type of light the tree grows in, size, berries/fruit, etc. wonderful photos and a great picture book to show your relatives, but if you are looking for a tree identification book, try elsewhere. i was very disappointed in the book.

Experience the World.......2005-01-31

Why does one travel? For many, the answer to this seemingly simple question can be quite one dimensional. Until I read "Chicken Soup for the Travelers Soul" my answer might have been to see new places, to try new cuisine, to get away from work or to escape my everyday existence. After many years and many miles around the globe, it took this book to truly help me understand what drives the human race to really go to the ends of the earth and why, despite the troubles of travel, we keep doing it.

This is an excellent read for both the novice and experience travelers. As a novice, it can help a person gain a greater understanding as to why it is important to see new places, experience different cultures and gain greater understanding of the world we live in. As a seasoned professional in the world of travel, this book can open your eyes and help you see the world through a whole new set of eyes.

For the nervous traveler.......2002-12-27

After reading this book, you may actually enjoy travel. If you are one of those people that don't really appreciate traveling, this book give you some insight into the world of travel that you yourself may have overlooked.

Chicken Soup for the Travellers Soul is a winner.......2002-03-16

This is a wonderful addition to the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. One of my favorite stories is A Visit With My Parents. It is about a Peace Corps Volunteer living in the Philippines. The parents of the young woman seemed to have a greater appreciation of life. They also gained a broader perspective as well simply after experiencing how hard a Flipino family worked doing daily manual labor. They also experienced how this family lived with no electricity, plumbing, or beds which was an eye opener for them.

I was also touched by the story Road to Reconcilliation. This is a touching story about a man who lost his leg in the Vietnam War. This man had such bitterness toward his loss until he met a Vietnamese man in a sporting event for veterans. Tran Van Son lost not only his leg but also and his entire family. These two men become fast friends and eventually run the New York Marathon together.

I was touched by the story The Nicholas Effect. This is the story about a young boy who dies in a car accident. The majority of his organs were donated giving life to numerous people. I loved the story Earning My Wings. It is about a compassionate flight attendant who assists a young woman with a baby with clothes and food during a flight. Another story that sticks out in my mind is A Fair Price. This is a wonderful story about how an American college student working in Kenya building classrooms encourages an African man to tell his wife that he loves her for the first time.

Every story in this book is so touching and inspiring. I learned a lot about different places by reading. Chicken Soup for the Traveller's Soul is a winner.

I wish I could rate this higher........2005-11-06

The artist, Koh Kawarajima and his crew are very talented and are remarkable at what they do. The art in this book is very well done with innovative designs, vibrant colors, and astonishing backgrounds. The style of the manga in this book is my favorite, big eyes, long hair and cute faces. There is about 64 pictures not including the pencil drawing rough drafts in the back. I wish this is all I could say about the book, but it isn't.

The reason I can not recommend this book is this; girls that show too much. Most pictures are rather modest, but some go too far. A few pictures have girls that are barley clothed and some that aren't clothed at all. Some are intentionally sticking their butt and some are about to "fall out" of what they are wearing. Some are in bathing suits and some are in their underwear. This is typical for manga I'm sorry to say, and I can not advocate this for anyone.

My father's book - still a classic.......2007-01-12

Of course I am a bit partial. But my dad has caught all the bow-wows at their funniest. For a good laugh, a good gift, you won't be sorry. How to Live with a Neurotic Dog continues to be published in new languages (over 20 so far), and sell briskly. Million of dog owners - or is it the other way around? - can't be wrong.

Yes, This Man Has It Right!.......2006-05-28

I have a dog. My dog is neurotic. I always used to say I had a puppy, but at seven months, heck, let's go the dog route, y'wanna? So this dog, I'll call her Chocolate...no, wait, that's her name...I'll call her Jane, yes, Jane to protect her anonymity. Anyway, she's cute and overall just great, but she has some issues. Yep. One of these is thunder and another is vacuum sweepers. The first hint of thunder and she dashes for the closest person and plows into that unlucky soul, seeking comfort. And as for sweepers, best to lock her outside or beyond the range of hearing the sweeper unless you want to spend about ten minutes picking up whatever item she's shredded into confetti. Now my first theory was she had some sort of past life trauma. Last time around, she might, say, have been done-in by a vacuum sweeper during a thunderstorm. Or maybe the sound of a sweeper just subconsciously reminds her of her father and activates a dog's normal, otherwise latent "my-daddy-abandoned-my-mother" issues, I have no clue. But the nice thing about this book is its level of compassionate understanding. Sure dogs can be neurotic little challenges to sanity and a happy home, but heck, can't we all? I found a lot of "yeah, me too!" moments in this chipper book and the laugh therapy chapters were a much needed relief after my third fragrant cleanup of the evening during a recent electrical storm. I'd recommend this for light reading (with helpful suggestions) for anyone whose dog has more neuroses than Woody Allen and Oedipus Rex combined. It's a hoot.

It really make you feel the joy of having, more than a pet, a good companion in your life.
Entertaining book and give you some clues to build a better relation with those tender-annoying-wonderful four legged.

I loved this book. Everything in it reminds me of the fun and antics that I experience with my two Pugs. I would highly recommend this to any dog owner or soon to be dog owner. It is a lot of fun and has many "out loud" laughs.

It is generally supposed that the Vedic tradition emerged from certain Brahmanic circles of poets, priests and theoreticians who depended economically very much on a kind of pastoral aristocracy. As against this point of view the book maintains the theory that the Vedic tradition was mainly connected with the warrior world, in particular with certain groups of seers that surrounded the warrior chiefs called suris and strongly opposed the pastoral aristocracy and their priesthood. What emerges from this approach is that the Vedic tradition, in spite of its apparent unity of themes, images and even sentences, is not a tradition based on consensus or on a harmonious development of thought from one end to the other, but rather a tradition that reveals a troubled background, a background of passionate rivalries. The book reconsiders the debate surrounding the antagonistic ideologies of pastoral and agricultural peoples and represents a new contribution to the discussion about similarities and differences between the Iranian and the Indo-Aryan cultures.

Aguilar I Matas provides a rare yet necessary look at the complexity of Rgvedic SOCIETY instead of focusing, as many do, on Rgvedic religion. He shows that aryas were a heterogenous community composed of a number of groups including the ari and the suri. The Rgveda promoted suri ideals and Indra religion. This text also depicts the ari as antagnistic to the supremecy of Indra and the soma sacrifice while venerting Varuna as sovereign deity. This book is essential for any scholar of Vedic tradition.
