Read it before and used it during recent road trip along Highway 101. Accommodation suggestions for smaller towns were particularly useful and accurate.

Rose O'Neill writes with the flourish and flurry of a legion of Kewpies in full cute mode, but there is charm and a wealth of information to be found in this delightful little book that opens a window onto the world of one of America's most underated artists, creator of a cultural icon, and an icon herself, the fabled Rose of Washington Square! While men still grumble that "Women can't draw comics", Rose O'Neill was beating the boys at their own game with her unique mixture of beauty, grace, wit, unbelievable raw talent and an abundance of charm matched only by her personal generosity. I came away from this book with the feeling that I had met someone I genuinely liked, aware of her own beauty (but not even remotely vain because there doesn't appear to have been an overassesment of her looks. She was a stunner.) Her tales of life in the Ozarks are particularly interesting and the only thing regrettable about this book is that it was too short. I would have relished more details about her marriage to pioneer filmaker Gray Latham and it could have used an afterword that gave more detail about the end of her life. Highly recommended for those seeking a glimpse into the rarely seen life of women cartoonists, artists, and the Belle Epoque.

The Story of Rose O'Neill, An Autobiography.......2003-04-01

While this book is not a great literary work, it is a wonderful resource for the Rose O'Neill enthusiast. I found it to be the most comprehensive record of Rose O'Neill's life I have read to date. In her own words, Rose describes her upbringing in an extremely unconventional household by a mother and father, both well-read and educated, with a mutual interest in the arts. Her father wanted to make an "experiment" of her regarding her education and along with reading classic literature, listening to Irish stories of fairies and little people, he always provided her with sharp pencils and plenty of paper on which to draw.

Extensive information is provided on Rose's life including her first trip from New York to the family's new home at Bonniebrook, in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, her marriages and her struggles to make the first Kewpie dolls.

After reading this book it is easy to understand why Rose became the woman and artist that she was. It covers her formative years, beginning her career as an illustrator at a very early age, to her novels, poetry, sculpture, and serious art.

I loved the book! There are lots of good tips and pointers, and for people like me who don't know how to do some home projects, the instructions were easy to follow and easy to use.

I ended up buying 3 copies - one for me and two to give away to friends! Totally encourage you to check this out.

This is the book I wish I'd had when I was just starting out on my own, and the book I wish I'd thought to write after moving house about 10 times since I first started college!
Yee-Fan does a great job of fitting all kinds of information into this book, and speaks in a voice that is easy to read but not patronizing to first-time renters. She's been there, done that, and wants to pass all that she's learned, good and bad, on to you!
Everyone has lived in the white cardboard-box style apartment, and signed the lease that says "no painting, no restoration, no personality." This book has a TON of ways to get around all that and really make a rental your own. Once you read this book from cover to cover, you can satisfy your need for more by culling through countless articles on the website.
I'll be buying a copy for every person I know that moves out on their own.

Excellent for budget-minded decorators!.......2006-05-09

First, let me start by saying that I thought there would be more pictures in this book. I'm very visual and that's usually what drives me to buy decorating books. But that alone did not distract me, and since it's mentioned numerous times in the book that the author is also the editor of Digsmagazine.com, I can pop in there to augment all the great information in this book.

Usually books about decorating, which is such a visual thing to begin with, have lots of pictures and very little text. If there is a lot of text in the book, it's usually pretty boring and hard to stay focused. Not so with this book. Yee-fan Sun's style of writing is very conversational and easy to read. The best part is that unlike other books on budget decorating or appealing to the newly free, she takes into consideration that many of us on a budget are renting and usually aren't allowed to make changes to our pads. Yee-fan provides plenty of easy, inexpensive, and temporary ways to inject personality into the cookie cutter apartments that we live in. Since she's lived all over the world on a starving student's budget, Yee-fan really knows what she's talking about.

It's a lot of reading, but if you want to give your place a huge dose of personality without blowing the budget, this is the book for you!

Yee-fan really knows what she is talking about... too many style books offer great ideas, but their idea of a "budget" includes $200 pillows. Buy this book for amazing style on a realistic budget!

A Must Read For Animal and Movie Lovers.......2007-08-15

Staci Layne Wilson's love of animals is apparent in this book, for she took the time to compile a guide to movies featuring animals, she donates a portion of her earnings from the sales of this book to charities focusing on animals in need of help, and she even bothered to find out the real names of many of the animals featured in the films. Yet, she doesn't let her obvious love of animals get in the way of reviewing even movies where the animals don't fare well. Furthermore, the behind the scenes exclusive interviews with many of the human actors on these films are fascinating in their own right, animals aside:)

I hope there will indeed be a Volume 2 of the "feathered, finned and forked-tongued critters" that Ms. Wilson hinted at in "A Note From The Author."

This book is a very comprehensive guide to all of your favorite animal movies. Every wonder about those cute ferrets in The Beast Master? There is a great discussion with Don Corsaceli about working with the little guys - also the horrific story of how one of the tigers used in the film was accidentally killed! Sad, poignant, funny, and entertaining, The Animal Movies Guide has interviews with directors, casts and crews from a diverse selection of movies. Recommended!

The best biography I've ever read!!!...........2001-03-25

Antonio Banderas is my favorite actor, and this autobiography has everything, I'd give this more stars if I could. I remember reading it at a very hard time in my life, and Antonio was (still is) a big comfort to me. It talks about a man from when he saw his first play of "Hair" that made him want to be an actor, and how his family didn't approve, and the pain and rejection he went through. A man of who's struggles from the theatre to being discovered by director Pedro Almodevor in the movies in Spain. How he had to learn English, for his first American role "Mambo Kings," to the rest of the movies he made, and his relationship with Melanie Griffith. You'll learn somethings you didn't before, like Madonna was a big help to him getting recognized, because she had a crush on him in "Truth or dare," his outspokeness-which by the way, this book does have language. But best of all, you get to know Antonio, a real nice, kind, passionate, compassionett, humble, hearted man.
