John B. Moyle (1909-1977) was a biologist and research supervisor at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and a frequent contributor to the Minnesota Volunteer. Evelyn W. Moyle is a longtime wildflower enthusiast, photographer, and gardener. She lectures and leads wildflower walks near her home in Excelsior, Minnesota.
John Gregor is owner of ColdSnap Photography. His photography has appeared in Growing Home: Stories of Ethnic Gardening by Susan Davis Price (1999) and in Trees and Shrubs for Northern Gardens by Leon Snyder (2000), both available from the University of Minnesota Press.

Handy out in the field.......1999-12-16
If your interested in upper midwest flowers and want something to take with you in the field than this is the book for you. It's armed with the common and latin name, where you're likely to find it and several have a little history about it's uses or how it was named. I've had my book for over ten years and still whenever I spot a flower I haven't seen I return to this book to find it's name and mark it as one I've found.

In Going Abroad we learn of squat toilets, Chinese group latrines, automated English street toilets, the proper use of toilet-paperless toilets, how to use a bidet, and how to find a toilet where you do not speak the language (hint: pantomime). Hysterically funny.......2007-08-06
I loved this book. Picked it up on a whim at the travel store. It is very informative and fascinating. AND it is hysterically funny. The book is sprinkled with anecdotes of just the sort that make traveling memorable. These are things every traveler faces, and very few of us research them ahead of time.
Going Abroad: The Bathroom Survival Guide.......2007-01-05
This is a quick read and a very useful book if you plan to do any world traveling. With humor and simple illustrations, the author offers absolutely essential information. It is a great gift for anyone who plans to - Go Abroad.
The information you really need that's not in your guidebook.......2000-05-17
This summer I spent three weeks in France and I was quite surprised upon encountering a squat toilet. I was expecting to see the occasional bidet but a squat toilet? As it turns out they're very common in parts of the country, including new modern ones with infrared sensors for the flush (better be quick or you'll be wet!). I sure could have used a guide like this before then, and I'm delighted to have finally found one. There's also a nice chapter on bath facilities -- including some of the odder units I've had to figure out in various countries.
I highly recommend this book for the world traveller, even if you're just going to Europe. You may be surprised at how useful it is!
Entertaining and informative.......1998-07-11
Eva Newman managed to answer all of my questions about "going abroad". She provides practical information in an easy-to-read format that includes serious discussion about health issues and graphic illustrations of topics as well as anecdotal information from travelers all over the world. This one will go on my gift list for those just starting to get out into the world.

Some good info for Brits, but few others.......2006-03-17
My experience as an American expat moving/living/working in Greece for 10 years motivated me to buy this book in hopes of learning something new. I didn't.
While Mr. Reynolds knows Greece from experience and knowledge of the language, some information is outdated and aimed primarily and specifically toward people from the UK. This book offers a brief overview/introduction that absolute newcomers might find useful, but when tackling employment, retirement, purchasing a home and visa/work permit issues, it will offer you nothing. There are also no website addresses.
The EU has several new members, which means competition is at an all-time high for employment, and immigration laws have been tightened under the new government. Regulations are changing all of the time, but EU citizens such as Mr. Reynolds are not affected by this.
It is also worth noting that this book was written from a man's point of view, and life and work for a woman or a family in Greece are quite different. In short, there is some good information for Brits but much less for the rest of the world.
Some 99 percent of nationalities will still be in the dark after purchasing this 'updated' version, which will unfortunately not help much in real life.
