Great guide for travelling with little ones!.......2003-06-07

I ordered this book to get an idea of what we could expect at Universal. This is a great book to have before and while you are there. We saved time and money with the book. There are a few minor errors but things change so I will assume that is why. We travel with 4 kids ages 2-13 so planning is important to say the least! A great time was had by all and we definitely would not have had such a successful vacation without the preplanning this book allowed.

Clear and helpful.......2003-01-28

I love this book series and consider it to be the most helpful type of book for families traveling with kids under the age of 12. Our family has gone to Disney World many times but just recently began adding trips to Universal to our vacations as well. Our kids are 6 and 10. It helped a lot that the writer prepared us for the fact that Universal rides are louder and scarier than those at Disney world. I think otherwise we may have made some choices that would have flipped out our younger child - the signs in Universal are all cartoon like and very misleading.
The book also helped us to decide to stay in one of the Universal hotels, the Hard Rock hotel. I think I might have skipped this for another type of hotel both becuase I would have thought the Hard Rock wasn't for families or because other hotels in the area were less expensive. But the book convinved me that since we were going in summer we would need the front of the line privledges that people get when they stay at a Universal hotel. Boy were we spoiled! we saw every ride we wanted at both Islands and Universal without waiting at all and rode some things more than once. And the Hard Rock was a great, friendly hotel where the kids were treated very nicely.

A helpful book!

Informative - Except for the Errors!.......2002-07-31

This book was helpful as far as hotel info, and attraction info goes, However, there were more than a couple of errors that made it a little frustrating. We ordered this book because we wanted a good idea of what rides would be appropriate for our children's ages and heights, etc. There were a few rides that had one height requirement on one page, and then a different height requirement on another. This book was helpful in some aspects of planning our trip, but the discrepencies with ride information was not a help. I now wish I had ordered something else.

Universal with Kids.......2001-05-27

The book was very informative yet didn't include any touring plans for the park. We used the touring plans from the unofficial guide to Disney and had a fantastic trip! I was really looking forward to an expert telling me the ins and outs of the rides as well as how to beat the crowds.

Pleased.......2006-12-02

I ordered this book based on other good reviews. Although this book is a little difficult to use (measurements, strange ingredients, lack of specific guidelines for daily feeding portions), it is quite charming. The writing style and the little pictures are worth the price of the book. Once I figure out exactly how much to feed my 95lb. GSD and my 40lb. special breed...and what the heck "offal" is...I will use some of the recipes. Overall, I am quite pleased to add this cool little book to my collection of books for dogs and cooks.

I found this book to be one of the best for doggie recipes. I take in strays and they ALL love the recipes. Not being much of a cook myself I found these easy to follow and also very quick to the feeding bowl. Now guys......where is my kittie dining book for all my meow meows. At this very moment they smell puppy food and want some. Great book! Now, where's my kittie one to match?

Simple, down-to-earth feeding solutions that work........1999-11-03

I bought this book because my 3 year old, spayed Chihuahua was overweight, licked continually and lacked her old level of energy. Within two days of providing recipe #4, along with a Linolenic supplement, her licking stopped. (She had been on anti-itch drugs for months and they didn't work). Also within two days she adapted to the 5 PM feeding schedule I set forth and does not typically beg for a treat (unless I am having something she really loves). Until her weight is normalized, I will give no snacks. Even healthy ones. Some of the ingredients mentioned are not always found in North American homes, but determining an adequate substitute is not difficult. Missy has been on homemade food now for three weeks. Her hair is growing back, now that the licking has stopped, and is shiny and soft. She has dropped a little weight and has much more energy. This book is great as a basic guide to canine nutrition. The ingredient ratios are important to follow and are not complex to figure out. Creating your own recipes after reading this book is a snap. Cooking the food is fun and easy. Missy loves the warm meal every day and eats it all, every time. I weigh every meal to assure she is not overfed or shortchanged. I will never go back to commercial dog food.

There is missing documentation from this book........1999-02-17

While this book is absolutely full of common sense and seeming authenticity about doggie nutrition and habits, we need to know about the pedigree of the writer! Is he a vet? How does he know such detailed information? For example, daily feeding of 4.4 g protein, 1.3 g fat and 10.1 g carbohydrates per 1kg doggie weight is recommended. I'm usually willing to go along with such advice when I know it's source of authority. Another very significant omission - I would like a list of artists and titles for the wonderful prints included in the book, some are familiar, some not, but all are quite interesting. Isn't such credit to sources mandatory?

In summary, the recipes were good, this reader wants more information!

As many of you may know, I now have close to 500 different cookbooks. This week, however, I am reviewing on of the more unusual in my collection. This cookbook was originally published in 1992 in Czech. In 1996 it was re-published in Spanish and now in 1997 in English.

Jaroslav Weigel has written a book that is a must for the true dog lover. A Little Recipe Book For Dogs is a book that advertises being sound and nutrition and good home cooking for your pet. Published by Ballantine Books, this cookbook is a unique way to feed your dog for the best in nutrition.

The recipes are provided with both ounces and pound as well as grams and kilos, and each recipe also provides for difference sized dogs. With only about 35 recipes the book is small, yet who many recipes do you really need for your pooch.

Accurate Title.......2006-06-23

Well, they really nailed the title -- cause magazine covers are exactly what you get with this coffee-table book. Namely, scads of nice reproductions (around 300 or so) of magazine covers from the last hundred years. These are arranged into five sections, four of which are thematic (magazines which cover design, news, popular culture, and lifestyle), and one on illustrated covers. Given the mostly thematic arrangement, it seems strange to segregate the illustrated covers into their own chapter, especially as all the other chapters include illustrated examples as well.... In any event, each spread has about 3-5 images along with a brief blurb which doesn't generally say anything particularly illuminating. About halfway through the book I started concentrating on the images and skipping the text. Most of the images are from the U.S. and U.K. from the 1950s onward, although there are a smattering of examples from Germany, Poland, the USSR, and a few other places. Similarly, most of the examples are of mainstream consumer magazines, with a few nods here and there to the counterculture (a spread on punk 'zines, feminist mag "Spare Rib", "Adbusters" et al). Overall, it's good overview of the evolution of mainstream magazine cover design.

A pretty good coverage.......2005-04-13

I thought this was a fascinating overview of essentially American and English covers, from past decades and especially from the Fifties onwards. Divided into five chapters and covering a whole range of consumer titles with over three hundred covers shown. Each one has a caption and frequently there are several covers from one title, National Geographic or Ray Gun for instance. The author supplies a short overview of the various genres but it is the actual images that held my interest, frequently whole page or two, three or four to a page but all large enough to appreciate what the various art editors were trying to achieve.

Nearly all the magazines shown are examples of editorial design rather than just cover elements thrown together, like the 1962 'Confidential' (though even this is credited to Len Kabatsky) or the English title 'Hello' from 2000. There are three covers from my favorite, the German magazine 'Twen' (1963 to 1967) but I was disappointed not to see some examples of Henry Wolf's 'Show' and nothing from Herb Lubalin.

The Decorated Garden Room is an inspirational foray through the beauties of the old, worn and commonplace brought together in beautiful harmony and mingled with flowers. It is food for the spirit, a lovely adventure in masterful photography. The project ideas presented are anywhere from simple to moderately labor-intensive, but in my opinion the main value of the book lies in its inspirational value. It is a real motivator for those who wish to live surrounded by beauty, but lack the vast sums necessary to create palatial gardens. The style is whimsical and eclectic, appealing to children as well as adults. I highly recommend this book as a starting point for gathering decorating ideas, both for the interior and the garden. Those with an interest in English, cottage and country gardens, and those who enjoy unusual outdoor family projects will enjoy this book.

The concept is interesting & it is fun to try the different recipes, but many many errors mar the book. Also, some the instructions are less than clear.

Great recipes, easy steps, wonderful results........2006-07-09

This book puts you on the fast track to grafting the styles of famous artists into your own work through more than five dozen easy-to-follow recipes. Not surprisingly, you'll find yourself learning more than you originally expected to about Photoshop.

not-so-fast ..........2006-05-04

Earlier this year I reviewed what many will see as the companion volume to this book ("Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook for Digital Photographers"), written by the same author. Unfortunately, the newer publication is less useful. It seems to have been written on a pretext that it's clever to be able to duplicate what traditional artists can do. This seems - from my own personal viewpoint - to be greatly undervaluing the power of Photoshop (and similar software). Practitioners of digital fine art should (really, constructively) be looking to explore what the principles of prior and traditional art can mean within a new domain.

Plus, the book gets off to a definitely poor start. The second and longer of two introductory sections is titled "The Tricks of the Trade". Well it would be better if just some of the "tricks" had been explained in full and more accurately. Say, how to make a selection in Photoshop from the best available precursor (a black-and-white alpha channel). Or say again, how to make tonal corrections to the original photograph using a luminance mask. Then again, the first (and shorter) of the introductory chapters, titled "The Artist's Eye", is just a teaser. This topic - pre-visualizing what can be achieved as an output image when composing the original photographic input - could have benefited from a much more detailed explanation/argument. Indeed, it could even merit an expansive concluding chapter (but the book doesn't have one of those at all ....). This is, after all, at the very core of what the user could harness to any given artistic objective.

Additionally, I think that it's strange that a book such as this simply makes no reference at all to what could be printed from the recipes it contains. Some of the finished (output) images might look quite intriguing as 3 by 5 inch reproductions in the book - but does the methodology hold up if you're targeting a 20 by 36 inch output (say) on a large format printer? And what to do if that's not the case? Finally, and in common with the earlier companion volume, this book suffers from strange and inconsistent layouts of screenshots and text, plus all sorts of technical and editing omissions/errors (which include, for example, having the wrong screenshot in the wrong recipe - see p.108).

El libro esta bien. La traduccion es pesima, parece hecha por esos software que traducen y luego retocada por alguien, o tal vez hecha por alguien que no habla español como lengua materna. Le he pedido a amazon devolver el libro y lo comprare nuevamente en ingles.
