hidden treasures.......2007-02-01

Though Naples and the Amalfi Coast are better treated, the rest of southern Italy typically receives short shrift from the writers of travel guides, probably because this lovely region is less geared toward tourism. This Cadogan guide goes a long way toward ameliorating the problem. While covering the more obvious highlights, the authors also dig and delve into the details that bring interest and a sense of intrigue to almost any given site. Wit and humor further enliven the text, which reads more like story than guide. Where else would the traveller encounter the tale of the ancient witches' sabbath on the banks of the River Sabato, or discover the most beautiful rose window in Italy, at Troia? If you are a serious traveller, don't go to southern Italy without this gem of a resource.

This is a great book for new comers to the horse owning world. Some of the information you might know if you are very into the horse world and know people who own horses. The book gives you a great overview of all the horse owning responsibilities. This book helped me with my first horse.

This is such a great book! I actually bought this book for my Father in Law as a present, to look up his collectables and he loves this book and refer's to it all of the time. I recommend this book to any true-to-heart cowboy out there! The photography shown in this book is wonderful, showing many different styles of artwork. For any collector, this book is a MUST-have!

Misrepresentation in Collecting.......2000-04-11

I am an expert in the fields about which this book was written. Yet I have been repeatedly surprised to find not only misidentifications in the text but many gross inaccuracies. The names of spur makers and styles are often misstated. The values are not even close to being accurate. Yet the author has cited her affiliation with the NBSSCA,of which I am a member, as qualification for her authorship of this specialty book. I think it unfortunate that many who are searching for guidance in this area will make the assumption that such a guide is accurate and dependable. I would recommend to those interested in this field to rather consider,"Cowboy and Gunfighter Collectibles," by Bill Mackin or Jane Pattie's book on the Texas Spur Makers. Both of these volumes are compiled by authors with many years of experience and the collaboration of other experienced in the field. They are worth looking into.

Great review of recent western saddlery and metal arts.......1999-10-04

This is a very fine book. The text is interesting, well written, and, for a change, not apologetic about the west. The descriptions of the saddlemakers and smiths, and the history of their rise in the craft is really worthwhile. The photographs are superb. They provide an opportunity to really look over the work, you can almost run your fingers over the leather or silver. If you don't often get to those palces ike Pendleton, Elko, or Calgary you will realy appreciate the chane to see this work, and if you are like me, an amateur leathercrafter, these saddlers represent the zenith of the craft. At the price you cannot reaaly afford not to have this volume. One note to the authors....more please
