Customer Reviews:
needs a little color.......2007-09-18
I'm sure some of the information in this book may be outdated by now (published in 2000) as things do change, but I bought this book thinking it would be second best to actually taking the drive, which is a little beyond my means to actually do. So I wasn't expecting 100% accuracy as much as I was hoping for more scenic photos. In fact, the few that are included are quite small, and black-and-white! This could have been a much better book with color photos.
Good on the towns, not much in between.......2002-10-21
This is basically a list of towns in the order that
you hit them driving Hw101. Its OK if thats all
you want but don't expect much guidance on things
off the beaten track, or indeed anywhere outside
a town!
I found the Rough Guide Pacific Northwest book
much more useful.
Help in enjoying our Pacific coast line.......2000-10-09
This book has up to date, factual, interesting and on target information about the Oregon and Washington coast lines. The chapters each describe a community and its weather, events, attractions, lodging, restaurants, and more.
If you are thinking about exploring the coastal areas of the Pacific northwest, make sure you have this volume with you.
Customer Reviews:
I'm home again ! This book just takes my breath away!.......2000-05-07
I grew up in Oregon and spent most of my summers on the Oregon Coast. I live in Sourth Carolina now, and when I look at this book, it makes me cry ---every time. I am not an experienced travelor, but I know what beauty is. The Oregon Coast defines beauty for me. This book presents pictures that are breathtakingly beautiful. I remember as a teenager, walking with my girlfriends, lost in the Coastal mist, singing our hearts out. I was too young to appreciate the glorious visions that are there in my beautiful Oregon, just so abundantly available. When I go to the Oregon Coast, now, I just fall apart with emotion. Now more than ever, because my father is buried there, and he loved it SO much. When you look at the pictures of this book, remember my father, in his grave site on the cliffs, overlooking the beautiful sea. What a glorious final resting place. I dedicate this review to you, Dad. Thanks for showing me all the beauties of Oregon and our beautiful Pacific Coast. Barra (Remember our Oregon Coast song? I do!)

100 Years of Fashion Illustration
ASIN: 0698112423 |
Book Description
The celebration of the art of looking good has always demanded talent, vision, and style, and the artists recruited to fill the pages of Vogue since 1909--when it was taken over by Conde Nast-- have possessed these qualities in abundance. Their brilliant drawings chronicle not only fashion but also the whole comedy of manners that is the international social round, and this sumptuous volume collects the very best of them. Many great artists have contributed to Vogue's graphic tradition, including Dali, De Chirico, and Berard. The 1950s saw a period of near-eclipse for fashion drawings, although the light was never completely lost. Now a revival of interest is fully in evidence, as new talents have joined the ranks of the artists--including Botero and Hockney--who have tried their hand at this decorative, informative genre, and have seen it so often rise to the level of art.
Customer Reviews:
Not step by step drawing.......2000-06-14
The one other customer review connected with this book is incorrect - this is not a step by step drawing book - it is a history of fashion drawing in Vogue Magazine.
Step bt step drawing.......2000-05-20
I am a graduating fashion design student in The Art Institute . I have searched for a complete drawing book throughout my education. And, I found this book very handy and useful, and decided to have it in my little library. This book starts with complete course of education on basic drawing of a figure, and gives you step by step instruction of how to end up a beautiful figure of your own, even though you are not sure about your drawing skills. Once you get your basic figure done, it shows you how to put the other items together, draw the details. It gives more than enough information and pictures about coloring and rendering which is the most important section to make your design come through. The section I liked most in this book was about drawing the hands and face which has given me trouble during my education. After reviewing the book and applying the techniques , I relaized how easy it is to do it my own, instead of swiping someone else's sketch. And also, the rendering techniques and information about it was very useful to finish up my sketches. I highly recommend this book to any person in any level of drawing skills, who is interested in drawing Fashion figures.I have had a big advantage of it , why shouldn't you?

Book Description
Erasmus - Der Humanist als Theologe und Kirchenreformer deals with Erasmus' person and work: his development, the main themes of his world of thought, some of his important works and his influence on contemporaries. The twenty articles in this book together draw a coherent picture of the man from Rotterdam. Erasmus is placed in the context of the intellectual movements of his time. Special attention is given to the attitude he adopts in the tension between Renaissance Humanism and Reformation. The relationship between Erasmus and Luther is the subject of several articles. Seven of the articles in this volume appear in German for the first time. The thirteen others have been published before, but have not been readily accessible. The book is important for historians and theologians interested in the era of Renaissance Humanism and the Reformation.

Health o Meter HDC100-01 "Grow with Me" Teddy Bear Scale for Babies and Toddlers
ASIN: 0743432975 |
Book Description
Acclaimed novelist Susan Johnson found, at age thirty-five, that her desire to have a baby became overwhelming. She had no inkling what motherhood would cost -- or give -- her. But as she went on to experience pregnancy and birth, and their impact on her marriage, health, and heart, she recorded it all. In this hauntingly lovely account, Johnson portrays a woman transformed by motherhood, and a writer forever changed by a widening chasm of experience. Her initial ecstasy jostles against bewilderment, rage, and despair, however, when she develops a rare complication of childbirth; she is "a one-woman catastrophe, a small ruined country." She is also burning to get words on paper. The result, A Better Woman, should be required reading for every woman hungry to give birth -- and every mother yearning to have her deepest feelings heard.
Customer Reviews:
Not inspirational .......2007-04-30
This author had a tough time with motherhood, especially post partum, there is NO doubt about that. I myself had some issues with my tearing and would have been horrified if I had read this book first. But, just reading this for inspiriation alone, I found myself very bored by it. I guess I just didn't like her writing style. She drones on and on and on. I found Anne Lamont's Operating Instructions a much more engaging memoir about motherhood.
A well written book.......2006-11-16
It is interesting to read Susan write about the two pregnancies she had and the resultant complication. It is also amazing to see how she entwines her life experiences in writing and draws something back into her life, a power which she gains from the understanding, knowledge of life through the writing.
At one end if you get to know things like controlled crying technique for bablies, happy vomiters - Just as I wonder why the 'morning sickness' was never mentioned - she had to deal with many other serious problems in life like managing her career, finances.
In a very simple style, she brings home many realisations in family realtions.
