Customer Reviews:
You're going to LOVE IRELAND! .......2004-09-24
Here are my reviews of the best guides to meet you r exact needs.....I hope these are helpful and that you have a great visit! I always gauge the quality of my visit by how much I remember a year later......this review is designed to help you get the guide that will be sure YOU remember your trip many years into the future. Travel Safe and enjoy yourself to the max!
Fodor's
Fodor's is the best selling guide among Americans. They have a bewildering array of different guides. Here's which is what:
The Gold Guide is the main book with good reviews of everything and lots of tours, walks, and just about everything else you could think of. It's not called the Gold guide for nothing though....it assumes you have money and are willing to spend it.
SeeIt! is a concise guide that extracts the most popular items from the Gold Guide
PocketGuide is designed for a quick first visit
UpCLOSE for independent travel that is cheap and well thought out
CityPack is a plastic pocket map with some guide information
Exploring is for cultural interests, lots of photos and designed to supplement the Gold guide
Rick Steves' books are not recommended. They may be an interesting read but their helpfulness is very poor. They don't do well on updates, transportation details, or anything but the first-time-tourist routine and even that is somewhat superficial on anything but the mega-major sites.
Frommer's
These are time tested guides that pride themselves on being updated annually. Although I think the guides below provide information that is in more depth or more concise (depending on what the guide is known for), if your main concern is that the guide has very little old or outdated information, then this would be a good guide for you.
Lonely Planet
Lonely Planet has City and Out To Eat Guides. They are all about the experience so they focus on doing, being, getting there, and this means they have the best detailed information, including both inexpensive and really spectacular restaurants and hotels, out-of-the-way places, weird things to see and do, the list is endless.
Blue Guides
Without doubt, the best of the walks guides.... the Blue Guide has been around since 1918 and has extremely well designed walks with lots of unique little side stops to hit on just about any interest you have. If you want to pick up the feel of the city, this is the best book to do that for you. This is one that you end up packing on your 10th trip, by which time it is well worn.
MapGuide
MapGuide is very easy to use and has the best location information for hotels, tourist attractions, museums, churches etc. that they manage to keep fairly up to date. It's great for teaching you how to use the public transportation system. The text sections are quick overviews, not reviews, but the strong suite here is brevity, not depth. I strongly recommend this for your first few times learning your way around the classic tourist sites and experiences. MapGuide is excellent as long as you are staying pretty much in the center of the city.
Time Out
The Time Out guides are very good. Easy reading, short reviews of restaurants, hotels, and other sites, with good public transport maps that go beyond the city centre. Many people who buy more than one guidebook end up liking this one best!
Let's Go
Let's Go is a great guide series that specializes in the niche interest details that turn a trip into a great and memorable experience. Started by and for college students, these guides are famous for the details provided by people who used the book the previous year. They continue to focus on providing a great experience inexpensively. If you want to know about the top restaurants, this is not for you (use Fodor's or Michelin). Let's Go does have a bewildering array of different guides though. Here's which is what:
Budget Guide is the main guide with incredibly detailed information and reviews on everything you can think of.
City Guide is just as intense but restricted to the single city.
PocketGuide is even smaller and features condensed information
MapGuide's are very good maps with public transportation and some other information (like museum hours, etc.)
Michelin
Famous for their quality reviews, the Red Michelin Guides are for hotels & Restaurants, the Green Michelin Guides are for main tourist destinations. However, the English language Green guide is the one most people use and it has now been supplemented with hotel and restaurant information. These are the serious review guides as the famous Michelin ratings are issued via these books.

Tomarts 5th.......2003-02-18
This book is loaded with valuable information. Lots of pictures & needed specs, but as in previous editions, the incomplete index leaves much to be desired, and the pricing is out of this world. However, that said, it is a great addition to a collectors library.
Hot Wheels guide probably indispensable.......2002-11-07
I have an interest in older Hot Wheels, and was looking for values and prices. This is the only book that differentiates between the various colors of the early cars, and those colors make all the difference in value. As a result this book is almost indispensable. The color guide itself is only so-so, being particularly difficult to match up with some of the brighter colors. There were so many shades that sometimes the guide is only so-so too. But since this is the only book that even bothers to attempt to divide the cars by color, this is the one to get.
Guide for hot wheels flawed but probably indispensable.......2002-11-05
This book purports to be a guide to all of the hot wheels cars produced for the last thirty plus years. It's very up-to-date, and well written and thought out. It has lists of all of the cars, with the early ones priced by color so you can keep track of which ones are more or less expensive. The colors in the color guide don't look that good to me, and since there are so many shades, I didn't find it that valuable, but the price guides are very good. They aren't completely up to date in and of themselves (how could they be?) but they're as good as they can get, and you can use them to judge how much one color will cost as opposed to another.
It's OK.......2002-10-21
Honestly the latest edition is just a tired rehash of the last one. No effort to clean up errors, just seemed to be rolling the same information over and smacking it with the lastest edition number on it. The pages fall out of every edition I have owned. If you are a Redline enthusiast, there's a new game in town. The Ultimate Redline guide by Jack Clark and Robert Wicker is it! It's a hardback, has really neat history of the cars. Beautiful pictures, and lists all variations.
I like a little more substance than what the Strauss book has offered lately. Hopefully Clark and Wicker will release more books soon and put this guide out of it's misery!
The Indispensable Hot Wheels Bible!.......2001-05-22
Two words describe this book: essential, and outstanding. Not only is it an invaluable resource for those sorted greedheads and bean-counters out there who like to know the value of their collections down to every dime, nickel and penny, but for the rest of us who engage in the collecting of Hot Wheels for the sheer LOVE of it, this book serves almost as a muse for the hobby . . .enticing us to continue the search in an all but impossible quest of obtaining every one. While frequently criticized for not being entirely "accurate" and "current" with listed prices, I have found through my own experience that the prices give you a fairly good "ballpark" figure to know whether or not you're getting ripped off. As with all collectibles, beauty and worth is in the eye of the beholder. On this note, this book is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL if you use Ebay or other online marketplaces to look for cars.
More than anything, this book is a superb gallery of Hot Wheels cars so that even if you'll never own them all, you can at least SEE what they look like. As all collectors know, there will never be enough Sky Show Deoras or rear surfboard Beach Bombs to satisfy us all, but with this book you can at least see what you're missing.
My advice? Simple. Do not hesitate to buy this book. You will not regret it (unless of course you go over your credit limit and the bank hooks you with fees!), and you will be guaranteed with hour upon hour of satisfaction with the love of these little cars that only true collectors understand.
Customer Reviews:
Great for the new collector.......1998-12-01
This book gives you a great history lesson on Hot Wheels. The photos are great too! Good for the new comer.
Good book for the Hot Wheels enthusiast........1998-09-24
Lots of great pictures, but the pricing levels are very arbitrary. Also, there are a few errors in the guide as to the existance and availability of some cars.
Anything and everything you want to know about Hotwheels.......1998-05-14
If you ever had any Hotwheels as a kid and have have wondered what they would be worth now, or how many colors and versions there were this is the book. Hundreds of color photographs and wheel variations through the years along with current values. Quite a bargain, excellent investment.
Perhaps, the Hot Wheel Collector's Bible!.......1997-05-14
This book has been long awaited by the veteran and the novice Hot Wheel collector. Mike Strauss is assumed the "all knowing" Mr. Hot Wheel. This book with the previous, is the most comprehensive and detailed book on the collection since its conception. It would be impossible to conceive the cost to photograph each vehicle and give detailed definition should the collector assume such an endeavor. This book will be an added collector piece to the actual Hot Wheel vehicles. Thanks, Mike

Don't go to Napa without this book!.......2007-05-31
Have been to Napa many times - but was unaware of the many gems this book uncovers - an incredible and fun resource for the food and wine lover! I will be seeking out these finds in the future! Highly recommended.
Great overview of Napa.......2005-08-16
This book covers all the areas I was interested in learning about before our trip to Napa Valley. The reviews seem unbiased and thoughtful. We had visited Napa 18 years ago and while we already had a few ideas, reservations, etc., this guide gave us even more places to consider. I've "earmarked" so many pages and even took this guide with us. It also includes maps, addresses and phone numbers and/or websites. Some good recipes are in the back. A good companion guide.
a great resource, even for locals..........2003-04-24
As a regular visitor to the Napa Valley for the past 10 years, it's easy to think that one has 'seen it all.'
This book really reminded me what a special place the Napa Valley is, and how much there is to discover. Visitors and locals alike will find something new and interesting that they simply must try.
Take this book with you to the Valley, or read it before you go and find your new 'must try' discovery.
Fun in the wine country.......2003-03-26
This is a must have for anyone visiting or living in the Napa Valley. Well organized and cleverly composed. I found it most useful for locating the rare-to-find places and foods that make the Napa Valley so unique. It makes a great gift for all the food lovers in your life.

Book Description
Jeff Gordon's long-awaited racing memoir -- an unprecedented and thrilling look inside the life of a NASCAR champion.
It didn't matter that Jeff Gordon hailed from California -- hardly a fountain of stockcar pedigree -- or that they said he was too small to race with the big boys on the dirt tracks and ovals of his youth. It didn't matter that Dale Earnhardt called this upstart "Wonderboy" -- no one raced the legendary Earnhardt harder, and no two drivers had more respect for each other. And it didn't matter that the racing world said Gordon was finished with the breakup of the crew on the #24 car and the departure of Ray Evernham, his crew chief, in 1999 -- he came back two seasons later to win a record-equaling fourth Winston Cup, this time with Robbie Loomis as crew chief. In the end, all that matters is that Jeff Gordon is the greatest living NASCAR champion, and it only remains to be seen just how many championships he can win.
But what's it really like to climb into a stockcar every weekend and challenge for a championship? Offering a never-before-seen entry into the thrilling world of NASCAR racing, Jeff Gordon takes us into the cockpit of the #24 DuPont Chevrolet car; right into the garages where his cars are made; and inside the lives and efforts of his extraordinary team, the Rainbow Warriors. Just how does his car get built, tested, and driven, and how do these personalities mesh into a championship team? Along the way we find out what he thinks of life as both a NASCAR champion and a never-left-alone celebrity, where he came from and to whom he owes all his successes, and above all, what it takes to be a champion in one of the most dangerous and thrilling sports of all.
Jeff Gordon: Racing Back to the Front -- My Memoir is a pit pass all its own, giving passionate NASCAR fans unique access into the life and career of one of the most storied champions in the sport.
Customer Reviews:
Quick, decent read.......2006-09-18
This book tells about his life from a very young child all the way through Nascar championships. Very fast reading and not a lot of depth and detail, but wrote well. I did find it interesting and I am not a fan. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.
Great Book!.......2005-09-18
If you are a Jeff Gordon fan, this book is a must. Provides great insight.
Jeff Gordon Rocks!.......2005-09-17
Anybody that loves Jeff Gordon and to watch him race this book you have to read. Being a huge Jeff Gordon fan I enjoyed reading this the minute it arrived. Awesome Read!!!
Jeff Gordon: Racing Back to the Front--My Memoir.......2004-10-01
As a huge Jeff Gordon fan I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book and it did not disappoint. It makes an easy and entertaining read and I found I couldn't put it down. Even if you've followed Jeff like I have for years, the book offers a little more of his personal insight to different situations and what he was really feeling. Not what the media wanted us to think. He touches upon all types of different issues thru-out different stages of his racing career. For any racing fan would enjoy this book, for the Jeff Gordon fan this is a must read !
Profeesional Achievements Covered Extensively.......2004-06-21
Very strong book following Jeff's lap by lap experience of key races in his past. For those of us that know Jeff's professional achievements, the book was fell short in getting to better know him. The book summarizes key personal turning points in his life. Understandably so, he is a guarded person off the track and the book follows that philosophy.

Book Description
This book is a study of the marrying of Anne of Cleves to King Henry VIII. It contains fascinating material--including "demonic" interference and sexual politics at court--that differs greatly from the usual stereotyped accounts of Anne. It also provides a rich new context of royal courtship rituals, and a startling account of the king's failure to consummate his marriage. Henry's decision to ally himself with this German noblewoman in 1540 was in part a reaction to the Franco-Imperial Treaty mediated by Pope Paul III, who renewed a suspended bull of excommunication against Henry in the hope of isolating England diplomatically. The subsequent marriage procedures, from the advent of negotiations and the portrait of Anne by Hans Holbein the Younger to Henry's Rochester greeting of Anne--in disguise--and the Greenwich nuptials, all followed usual royal protocol. However, the king's sexual incapacity, which prevented the consummation of the marriage, culminated in the fall and subsequent execution of Thomas Cromwell and his client Lord Hungerford, who were both tarred with the brush of sexual heresy. Retha M. Warnicke is Professor of History at Arizona State University. She is the author of several books, including The Rise and Fall of Anne Boleyn (Cambridge 1989).
Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2000-07-06
When I first started this book I was hoping that it was one that would give some insight into the life of Anne of Cleves, what she was like as a person etc. I was also hoping that it would touch on the controversty surrounding the portrait done of her by Hans Holbein (it mentions the scandal briefly to say that he did not misrepresent her in the portrait). Instead it focuses on marriage and uses Anne as its example. Not to say that this topic was not interesting, I just felt as though the title was misleading in terms of the book's subject matter. It really does not talk about her until you are half way through the book. I would recomend reading this book but only after it has become a paperback or if you want to know about the history of marriage within the Church.
Warnicke's "The Marrying of Anne of Cleves" an Engaging Read.......2000-07-03
Dr. Warnicke's latest book is quite enlightening. I admit that I didn't know much about Anne of Cleves or how she came to be married to Henry VIII, but learned that what I had read was largely inaccurate. Dr. Warnicke makes Anne's situation quite clear, much as she did in her book about Anne Boleyn.
The information about royal protocol in selecting and securing foreign-born brides was also fascinating. The book definitely bears a second reading, IMO.
The Marrying of Anne of Cleves: Royal Protocol in Early Mode.......2000-05-05
Excellent! Lots of detail and background. Ms. Warnicke provides details from many courts and now I finally understand just how Anne of Cleves ended up in England. I enjoyed this as much as her previous book on Anne Boleyn.
